1. Good stuff, always nice to hear outcomes good or bad, especially good ones
2.
must remember to tell our singer he's a bigot, he thinks that anybody that votes UKIP is a ****
If the cap fits
3.
Obviously with the prevalence of social media, it is quite routine to do some online checking to support any credentials - just a few minutes ago I read a Facebook entry on a musicians wanted page where some guy said he's played 'over a thousand gigs in the last ten years'. Clicking on his photos showed up loads of photos of trees and his dog, but not one of the guy playing with anything other than a football. What does that say?
Was it JTUK?
4.
Interesting to know how many of the naysayers also sing or do a fair bit of backing vocals. I can remember a lot more bass parts than the words to all the songs we play.
I always get the impression in these threads that some people feel because they've learnt all the verses to alright now note for note everyone should be able to remember everything ever written!
5. Judging by the younger people I know going to the pub just isn't the done thing anymore.
6. Music Of Beatles Origin
7. I have many hobbies that require driving to and from places with stuff in the car, I'd only declare any that I'd class as a proper income, proper incomes I'd class as anything where a tax return is filed each year.
8. I will indeed, he's still plays with that drummer in a couple of bands afaik too.
9. If we moan too much we might end up with Chris Evans or someone!
10.
I saw the drummer and bassist in The Climax Blues Band do this at the Standard in Walthamstow in the 90's. Looked good at the time
He's a member here
11.
Dont know why musicians moan about the content of the Hoot, after all it has to appeal to a huge range of tastes. Sadly we rarely have gigs at New year so we tend to watch it every year. Can think of much worse as a build up to 12 o clock.
I just think it's due a re fresh, new host(s) and less boogie woogie.
12. I think most of us in that situation unless it was a very quiet practice or jam at home would still use some form of amp, just a little 1x10 or something like a MarkBass combo, if the voice is not in a PA then it is possible though.
13.
Jeff Ament - Pearl Jam The intro to evenflow has a dirty great harmonic slide at the start. I'm sure it's a Wal he uses/used. Ah...missed that someone had already said that...
I found the unplugged version of Jeremy, that 8 string bass sounds amazing, fantastic stuff!
14. He can't help himself can he, that version needs no piano, lol.
15. I thought piling up barefaced cabs of different speaker sizes with different cloths and badges upside down with the amp head being the largest box perched on top was advised by most users looking at the BF threads?
16. I doubt any of the hollow bodied eub type basses would be loud enough to jam with acoustic guitars, even with a normal upright I'd use a small amp just to save digging in so much.
17. It looks a simple bass to put into production, they'll probably release it in ten years after he's stopped using it like the current one! If anything a Flea signature based on his current one would be more of an actual Flea signature as the current one is just a copy of a regular jazz that presumably belonged to someone else before him?
18. I wouldn't say Amy looks like her, No.
19.
Gold plated oxygen free kettle leads with 3A fuses.
I did notice that the Energizer battery in the Stingray that I used for the whole gig lacked a little heft, I shall go back to Duracell for the live stuff from now on and keep the Energizers for the studio in future, rookie error.
20.
It's as rock and roll as having a digital mixer. I used to gaffa tape all mine down as well by the way, just to be sure. My stage setups were nothing if not neat.
It keeps the idiots that can't help but get on the stage area from tripping over the wires, by that I mean me,
21.
Did you play a calm opening number to break the crowd in gently or go straight for the jugular with an uptempo number? Both ways are wrong.
Ha that made me chuckle, you can't win on Basschat can you. FWIW it was Brass In Pocket by The Pretenders.
22.
Is Nick Beggs still playing bass with them?
No it is Andy Carr, I didn't realise until looking at the Wiki that Martin Fry is the only actual member of ABC now, super tight band and his vocals are still great.
23. Or do you want it live, twice as fast and with Matt Cameron from Sound Garden on drums? Sheesh Kebab!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F59PX-K8PwE
24. Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam is your guy surely? Unplugged version, remember when this was new the Seattle grundge rock scene was hailed as a fairly talent-less load of noise. A bit funkier? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SK4pQaoqMQ
