1. Alex, could you make a quick comparison between the Big Baby and the Midget T? Wich one would be "better" used on it's own with a common amp/bass setup and in what kind of sound/style/freq. range/(... can't realy explain better) would each be more suitable? Sorry for the off-topic, i won't extend this much!

 3.
Get the 9.0....much fuller sound.
+1 Had the same doubt, tried only the 6.0 and now i'm waiting for the 9.0's arival. The 6.0 lacks a bit of low to fill the sound.
 4. New developments: I just got the opportunity to get a local GK Neo 212-II at a very reasonable price (don't know the exchange rate but around £350, new with 2-year waranty): Features: Impedance: 8 ohms Power rating: 600 Watts Woofer: 2xGK-Paragon 12B300-16, Cast Frame, 12", 300W, 16 ohm Neodymium Tweeter: GK-Paragon 5H50-8 Frequency responce: 36Hz to 19 kHz + 5dB Sensitivity: 105dB Cross over: HMS Bi-Amp/Full Range Switch, Horn Power Limiter, L-Pad High Frequency Attenuator Connectors: 1xHMS Compatible Bi-Amp/Full Range Speakon, 1x1/4" (Full Range Only) Construction: 11-Ply Poplar, Black Tolex, 16 Gauge Steel Grill, Removable Nickel Plated Castors, Custom Tooled Interlocking Corner System and Front Ported weight: 64 lbs Dimension: 20.8"W x 25.8"H x 16"D Musicstore link Can i get some opinions from you? This looks like a cab that'll work for me in two ways, it'll let me know if the 500W@8ohms from the 9.0 are more than enough for my every gig needs and at the same time i'll find out if the 2x12" configuration and respective weight/size are portable enough for me. Knowing this i'll be able to choose more wisely if i'll go for Alex's Midget T or Supertwelve T and also have more time to gather some more funds as it would give me enough quality to gig for a few weeks. For the price i'm getting it it'll be easy to sell it without much value lost. As for the sound i can't try it because it has to be ordered but i've been reading some very good reviews on the web. Any input here would be much appreciated. I'm not so shure on what model this cab is... i've seen 3 kinds of pictures on the net for the Neo 212's and the difference is in the logo, my shearchs returned the picture above (the same in GK's site) and these: The store selling it clearly says it's a GK Neo 212-II, so would be the one on the first picture!!? Anybody knows the difference? Cheers
 5. Trace is loud... very loud! I hope i'm not mistaken but when Trace says a amp is rated at 300W they mean that in every frequency on it's range you'll have at least 300W of power available. Being some freq's "louder" (can´t realy explain this better... lacking some technical knowledge...) than others you'll end up with much more volume than the 300W rate sugests. Other makes (not all, obviously) rate their gear at a medium figure or at it's maximum (low-end gear), that's why everybody who's ever played Trace gear says they're louder than "everything" else!
 6. Just trying to get back on the topic: I've had a wonderfull afternoon at a friend's house where i could try one of the biggest collections i know (don't know that many). The basses i've had the opportunity to try were a Fodera Emperor Deluxe, 3 Ken Smith BT's 4 and 5 string, 2 kubicki factor 4 and 5 string, Alembic Elan 5 and several weaker basses (read Fender, Musicman, Warwick,...). From all the one with the best sound (more defined and accurate with the best tonal balance (bass/mid/high) ) and best finish to the bass itself was by far the Ken Smith. The Fodera just sounded too sterile played after the K.S. Even the Kubicki, in it's own unique way, had more sounds capable to put a smile in your face. I thought the Alembic was in the same overall level has the Fodera. Now start doing the pricing math! Too bad it wasn't there any Sadowsky to add to the trial... A few days latter i recieved my Yamaha TRB-5PII i got from a fellow BCer. I've tried it against the K.S. and the Smith still sounded nicer but against the Fodera my honest opinion (very imparcial, as you can imagine ) was that my TRB sounded better! More tonal control, less weight, better finish, faster and comfy neck... Summing up, until i've tried one i thought Fodera were the top-end of basses that i dream one day having but having compared a 12k (or around) bass to my used 900£ (about 2k new? realy don't know for how much they go over there, on UK) bass i'm now a very happy man . All that Fodera GAS was diverted to a nem one: Ken Smith GAS! Just my opinion! Everyone is intitled to their's. Cheers
 7.
found this on tb, thought it was a good way of comparing, without downloading a bunch of individual soundlips. i like the mod on the GR, might consider getting this done, ....Max ? edit : mod - wise apparently the GR2 does this..
I thought about moding mine too after seing the new GR models on the site. Anybody knows what mod is this and any info/specs/tutorial for it? I think it's only a blend knob inserted instead of the feedback switch...?!
 8. Thanks for the replies. I'll go serching and gather some more information and post my findings. I'm also considering using an EV EVM-15L i have sitting here and get a cab made for it with the plans of a T606 i got from the web. Looks like the cheapest solution for now and i'll get to keep the TE Cheers
 9.
Supertwelve T £675 GB Neo x 212T - http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp..._Neox_Cabs.html £655 on offer Id take the Neo X 212T
That doesn't show on the link! Only £857! All the others have the special offer undeneath the price! And she's "only" 600W@4Ohms and the Supertwelve will go up tp 1000W@4Ohms... I'm still very leaned to Alex's cabs for a keeper. Oh!, just confirmed that the Promethean is only 250W... Thomann almost tricked me! That one is out of the list.
 10.
If this is a stop gap then get something as cheap as you can second hand. If it isnt going to be very loud then it doesnt matter about the output of the amp - just turn it down if it sounds ugly (but you wont need to cos its only quiet acoustic gigs). Alternatively borrow something from a mate....
Yeah, i've thought about it. I'll see what comes up after making a few calls. I want a cheap stop gap but with some sound quality so it can be true to my TRB-5PII trough the 9.0. Any builder making cheap quality uncolouring cabs (behringer, ashdown, laney)?
 11.
Isn't this a stop gap cab until you can get the Barefacedbass cab? Surely the best option is to buy what's cheap and local to you.
Precisely what i'm loking for but i want to get a cheap one that i could sell quite easily. That's why i came here to search your knowlege
Ah I see. I would actually suggest, from the massive amount of good reviews, that you check out the Genz Benz Neo X 212T. Even the cab gurus on Talkbass like it! I would take one of those with the Shuttle 9.0 and keep it! Lightish, well regarded, and built well. Plus, well known manufacturer as you know. Dont make weight the ONLY factor in buying a cab unless you absolutely must IMO.
You're right, but comming out of TE gear and having bought a head weighting a feather i realy am looking for a light cab. I've seen the Neox 212T, she's the kind of cab i would buy to keep but the Supertwelve T looks so much better and has better specs in every point for a fairly smaller price... I tink i'll take the TE to the store and see how much tey give me for it and what cabs they have available and recommend me. In the meanwile if you know of any great deal within my lookings in here or e-bay send a PM. I'll keep this up to date when i have more news. Keep those sugestions comming Cheers
 12.
(...) Id test what you can before you go ahead.
I intend to do that but near where i live it's a bit hard to find top-end cabs, just the usual Ampeg-SWR-Warwick huge and heavy crap!
 13.
The promethean p110 cab is fab. Only 250w but very loud and punchy. And when it came time to sell I'd snap your hand off. I owned the promethean stack briefly and loved it. I'm using a midget T with a shuttle 9 as of yesterday (my compact is still at our guitards) I've only been able to use it in the house so far but I'm very pleased. I'd say though that when talking about 900w heads and 600w cabs at these small sizes it's still a very compromised sound at volume ime. It's not the same as running larger kit. BUT ive found It's loud enough and worth it once the load out comes round!
Isn't the Promethean p110 500W@8Ohm? That's the value on their specs... Crank up that Midget and tell me how it sounds
 14. My current budget is 300€ (around 250£) to use in a trade plus the TE or to buy a used or new one. I realy don't mind having an underated cab because i want to sell it in a couple of months and get the Barefaced. I just need something to get me trough this period with the minimum quality and reliability and, like i said, can be easily moved with minimum value loss. If anybody here has a cab for sale that could fill this mesures and is willing to ship to Portugal give me a notice @Musicman20 - A friend of mine who's opinon i trust just told me he tried the head with Aguilar and EBS cabs (didn't specify wich of them) at a store and got the impression they didn't sound so good with the GB as they're own amps. He tolled me to get a Bergantino for it. What about other kind of more "common" cab makes? GK, Hartke, SWR, Markbass,... anything good, compact and cheap? Thanks for the replies so far
 15.
(...) A proper review will happen presently
Yes pelase! I'm looking forward to hear how the 9.0 sounds with the Midget T alone
 16. Hi, i'm waiting for the arrival of my new 9.0 within a couple of weeks. I've decided that i'm going for Alex's cabs to go with it but still haven't decided wich: Amp: Shuttle 9.0: 500@8Ohm or 900W@4Ohm Cabs: Midget T: 600W@8Ohm Supertwelvw T: 1000W@4Ohm My current financial situation does not alow me to get a barefaced cab for a couple of months but i need a cab to play. I'm not doing any big gigs having my band on a short pause to try and reinvent itself, mostly home practice and some quiet gigs with semi-accoustic guitars and a great drumer (does not play loud, knows his place in the song, a rarity!). I also have the possibility to propose my local musicshop a trade of my Trace Elliot GP12-X 1x15" (pics) combo with a new cab. Or perhaps Alex would be happy to accept it in a trade for a Supertwelve?!!... I'm looking for your experience to sugest me a cab that would cope with the 9.0 and maybe some personal remarks over the models that may appear in this thread. What i want in the cab: - Light; - Powerfull; - Good sounding without signal colouration; - Easy to sell in a near future without much loss of value; - 8 or 4 Ohms, don´t think i'll need more than the 500W@8Ohms for a long time; I'm finding my searches to lead me very often to the Promethean 110, what do you think of it? Will the cone blast out of the box with the first slap? http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_p110c_promethean.htm Thanks everyone in advance and sorry for the huge ammount of spelling and grammar mistakes i'm shurely posting
 17.
I think I may fry myself in the process.... Is this kill off Charic day?
"Yes! Yes! Kill him!"
 18.
Tempting but no thanks I think it was when they were only just starting to go
You could DIY a hook up of your bass's DC-IN to an external power supply with voltage regulation (by an expression pedal) and control the amount of energy feeded to your bass causing the distortion you like on the fly! Just a crazy thought!
 19. I'm reading the words "Aguilar Endorsed" in your sig, is this true? If so why are we having this discussion?
 20.
In the acg for a while I actually quite liked the distortion I got from a dying battery... Is that weird?
Err... nooo!... "Kill him! Kill the monster!"
 21. Looks like your bass's batery could be replaced... It shows all the signs, weak signal making you crank up the gain, distorted sound... unless you have a passive bass that would be my best guess.
 22.
not for me it hasnt... but each to their own.. im with you on the "it must have true bypass" being b******s though!!
I don't agree. With true-bypass you have your signal passing directly trough the pedal without any interference from this. If the pedal's power (battery or psu) fails during a music you can simply turn the pedal off and keep playing - you can't do this with other pedals.
 23.
Why more? Well, I don't really want it any louder - I don't think I have used the volume above half even with a low gain setting - it is more about the quality of the sound. Ever since I played through an 18" TE cab once at a rehearsal studio I've been striving for the same sound and, although the 1x15 and 2x10 are great, I want to get that richness that I got that time with the 18" cab - reaching my personal bass tone nirvana. I was just really canvassing opinion about my options. I was just initially puzzled by the watts/ohms thing - part of the jigsaw I am trying to piece together in my brains about all this. Anyway, as ever I appreciate all the input - many thanks.
In that case put your 15"er up for trade for a 18"er. But in your case i would try a crossover on both cabs to try tailoring their sound to your flavour first. If it works you would get the sound you are looking for with less expenses and less weight. i realy don't believe the 18"ers would go so further down than a 15"er to have such a great impact! I think you would get more punch in your sound but the 15" is low enough Try it all and go for whatever makes you happy! That's the most important thing.
 24. Why on earth do you want more than a 1x15"+2x10"??? I had the same setup ( 300W GP12 head + 1x15" + 2x10"H ) and could never go past 4/10 in volume without starting to overwriting the bar's PA (not to mention the rest of the band )! You should know that TE's 300W are pretty much the same as modern makes's 500W or more! With a stack of a 300W head + 1x18" + 4x10"H cranked up i'm shure you could knock down some thick walls
 25. Seing that you're all talking about amp construction quality and durability i would like to ask if anyone knows anything about Genz Benz construction quality, the Shuttle series to be more acurate. I'm waiting for my new 9.0 to arrive in a couple of weeks and want to know if i have to keep my ears up for a possible amp problem. I don't fancy spending a lot of money in gear to end up with a faulty piece of s**t! Thats why i've already had 3 Trace Elliot amps (and i'll be keeping one) with absolutely no problem with any of them and all built with top components Thanks
