  1. Ressurecting an old thread. I've got one, it's lovely and all that i need (the stereo Aux in would have been great so i could use it to amp my inears mixed with clean signal for live use but i can live without it). Very useable and versatile sounds and i can vouch that you would find it very hard to get a bad sound from it. I've got a question for @agedhorse though. My pedal is noisy. If i have gain past 9 o'clock i get a high freq hiss. I have the same issue regardless if i have a bass plugged in or not so it's not the bass. I'm feeding it with a 1Spot CS6, isolated, 18V if i'm not mistaken but it hisses with 9v too. The noise goes through the master out and DI out. Tested it with dedicated PSU from my zoom B3, nothing plugged in or out, just phones on aux out, and it still hisses with gain set past that point. All my EQ is at noon (flat). If i reduce highs or notch the mids in the upper setting it removes a lot of the hiss but i loose those higs in my sound. The question. Is this a known issue/fault that can be addressed or is there something i should do regarding the PSU (use a dedicated PSU, change polarity, different voltage, etc.) or any other thing? I bought it new a couple months ago so i don't think its humidity or dirt, it makes the noise from day one. I would love to get this sorted, the sound is awesome and perfect for what i play. Comming from a Shuttle 9.2 / Barefaced rig it's the most transparent preamp pedal i could find and well worth the penny. Cheers from Portugal
  2. #3 - Headstock shape, reverse headstock and especialy tuner placement( Hate 5 in line tunners, 4+1 looks better on classic headstocks. Hate 2+3 tunners, 3+2 makes more sense on a modern headstock); #2 - Rosewood fretboards in white basses (or any bass for that mather); #1 - Anything with a Fender decal in the headstock... I'll go ahead and tie myself to that post over that big pile of wood in that square...
  3. It was just an idea, like people use to do in the necks of high gloss finishes, it makes them smoother and with a matt look. In theory it should give a more convincing leather look. I also don't think it will atract that much dirt, it will still be washable with a damp cloth, not much diferent from a tolex cover or a very textured tuff-cab finish, a carpet cover will be way worse. Regarding the finish, after achieving the leather effect, do you think it would be possible to remove the shine of the tuff-cab simply by scrubbing it with steel wool? @funkle, could you please try this, if you have some steel wool at hand, in one of your test blocks? If it works it may give a more convincing leather look without any shine.
  5. You posted some nice pics. I could zoom them with good quality. As others mentioned this bass has been refinished. There are some falkes of the red paint where we can see it's original white colour. If this was my bass i would be picking up a plastic spatula with no sharp corners and try to scrape out the red paint making it a beautiful black&white bass. Damn! I would be looking for a pearl time-correct pickguard to put in it and make it shiny! Chrome pots, yes!

  7. I would take it off, remove the badge to prevent damage, place it over a smooth surface like a matt ou a rug with the concave side facing down, and walk over it until it flattens nice. But that's me
  8. I don't think i'm eligible to the musicians hearing promotion as i'm Portuguese and in Portugal. But i'll look in to it. Another question, i've read on the comments about the mould, do you know if i can do it even in a different country? Any non-UK residents here would care to chip in? How was the process and how long did it take? Thanks guys, it's been very helpful. I've settled for the 17 ones, i do love to hear a flat response and i can't sing, i just need to be able to hear the singer calling out the songs.

  11. I don't mind the low bass thing, in fact i use a HPF at 80hz in the mixer and the GB shuttle has an on-board HPF that shouldn't be much lower than that. thanks for the comments
  12. Hi, i'm in the process of getting a pair of hearing protectors. I've set on the ACS due, mostly, to the good reviews here on Basschat. I do need some input on which model should i choose. I'm between the ACS Pro 17 and the ACS Pro 15 models: https://www.acscustom.com/uk/products/hearing-protection/pro-series/pro-17 https://www.acscustom.com/uk/products/hearing-protection/pro-series/pro-15 I'm playing in a covers band that has a very wide set-list, from soft to funk/soul to hard rock, if needed (we can start the gig with "Ain't no Sunshine" and end it with "Highway to Hell"). Our band lives from our interaction on stage and we often need to communicate with each other mid song. From the specs it seems that the 17 are more suitable for me as they have more attenuation, resulting in less hearing damage from the cymbals but i don't know if it will have an impact on my ability to hear the rest of the band members talking to me mid song. The 17 has a flat response -17dB attenuation all across the board, the 15 model has a -12dB attenuation in the mid-range that slopes to -15dB in the high region. On paper i prefer the flat response, my bass sound and bass gear is as FRFR as i could find. So i'm reaching out to BC to help me get some insides from those who are using them live and have had some experience with them. Will i be fine with the 17? Will they affect the communication with the rest of the band? Cheers
  13. Love it, best colour scheme ever, with the black PG. The classic line, with the old bridge, 2 EQ, old body shape and oval PG in both 4 or 5 strings, for me, is the most apealing line. Lovely bass, and at 4,5kg it's not the heaviest of SR's.
  14. The hipshot wont go down to B, and i use that note in a couple of songs. I also don't like to detune my basses, i prefer to leave all the notes as they should and use the B string if needed (yes, even if i'm asked to play Killing in The Name).

  16. I'm sure you've heard guano apes but don't remember, look up for "lords of the boards" or "open your eyes", i'll bet you'll recognise them from the radio at least.

  18. Grunge is a bit subject to interpretation IMO. Lots of good sugestions already mentioned (Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden...) and not mentioned (Melvins, Mudhoney, Meat Puppets, Hole, Smashing Pumpkins...) so i would sugest other bands that set appart from the original Seattle grunge scene but have some origins connecting them to it: Tool, A Perfect Circle, Queens Of The Stone Age, Guano Apes, Foo Fighters. Here are some great basslines to be found, enjoy

  20. Naaa, not relic, moisture damage. Maybe it lived in a costal area near an allways open window. I doubt that the tunners and bridge can be adjust with so much rust. Neck doesn't look good, chances are that the truss-rod may also be shot. Don't want to imagine how the electronics must look like... How much do you get asked for a P neck and scratchplate in the classifieds? If this bass is cheaper than that, then it may be worth the risk of trying to bring it to life.
  21. I own a Yamaha, most of the time it's still in tune out of the gig bag! 😂 when i really need to tune is after soundcheck and before the gig because of temperature changes in the room. I never payed too much attention to tuning order, most of the times i start with the G but i think its just because it's the closest string at hand after i've turned on the volume in the bass. In any case i tune my bass in either of the two following methods: B-D-A-E-B-E-A-D-G or B-E-A-D-G-D-A-E-B I always do two runs on the tuning just to compensate the differences in tension when i get to the last string.
