900 watts @ 8ohms? why? this micro head thing is turning into a cock measuring contest IMO. sure it fits in a gigbag, but I havent come across too many cabs that can be carted around easily and require that much juice.
That was a typo from the TB'r poster. He emended it, it's 500W@8ohm / 900W@4ohm, just like the STL-9.0, in fact they're both equipped with the same class-D power amp
 2. See here: http://www.drtube.com/marshall.htm go to the bottom of the JCM800 Bass series and you'll find what i think may be your cab:
1935A JCM800, Bass 4x12" 260W/280W 16Ω angled front cabinet. 1935B JCM800, Bass 4x12" 260W/280W 16Ω straight front cabinet. These cabinets were in production form 1980 up to 1986. They were fitted at first with 4 Celestion G12-65 T3101 16Ω speakers and later (1983 onwards) with 4 "Marshall-Celestion" 12" 16Ω speakers.
So it would be a 16ohm cab and not 15ohm. If the 2x15 is realy 8ohm and this is confirmed to be a 16ohm cab then you're safe to connect both cabs.
 3.
If this is basically the Genz version of the MB Walkabout, I can see it selling very well. We shall see. Despite my initial reactions with a Shuttle 9.0, im tempted by one at the moment.
Stop fooling yourself and buy the 9.0 already! You know you want it! And you know that's what is going to happen!
 4.
I would have done if I could figure out how, but it's a fiddly double sided PCB that you can't remove very easily. Ghostbass -yes, it's just basic master volume control that affects the whole pedal. In dry mode, you adjust the regular volume knob until you're happy with the clean/dirty ratio, then back off the volume a bit with the new knob. I'll do some samples when I can after my gig tomorrow.
Great! I think i'll be gutting mine very soon Those samples would be much appreciated. If i think i can use it in my band i'll do both mods in one go!
 5. Buy a DI, something like this: It's cheap. Plug your bass into it then use the link out to connect to the power amp and the DI out to connect to the mixing desk and get rid of that Roland in your setup! That's how i would do it. Cheers
 6. Just one thing i'm not clear on it yet. Does this pot afects the entire pedal? I mean, does it mute all the sound of the pedal when rolled off? From your post i've got the idea you where bypassing the fuzz signal and not the main output signal... I have the same struggle with this pedal and this mod would be lovely to do if it works like i'm expecting to. Thanks for sharing the knowledge edit for some bad english (i know there is lot more left) and for some clarification another edit to ask for some samples using the feedback switch or a link to a youtube video?
 7. I have a Bass Muff and it does a pretty nice job with fuzz. Can go from overdrive to fuzz with the turn of the drive knob and the dry option switch retains your clean bass sound mixing the fx with the volume knob. I recomend it but, as always, it's best if you try one before buying. What works for me could not work for you! I use mine to play "Time is running out" (boosting the lows in my bass pre and using the dry blend of the BBM) but i also turn the fuzz down just to drive my 3leaf GR. For mild OD i'm using a Fulltone Bass Drive Mosfet.
 8. It will most certainly be resleased in NAMM next year. Don't think we'll learn more about them until then. A good oldfashion uncle Ed's review with a showdown between the STL-9.0 and the Streamline puted trough the exactly same cabs would be wonderfull!
 9. Didn't see the gear page yet but this sound reminds me of the Ed's EHX Bass Microsynth review... probably one being used in this?!
 10.
Yeah, they are advertising them at their peak wattage...which is a clever scheme! Thos Shuttle cabinets are supposedly SUPER nice, but dont crank that 9.0! PS - How are you getting on with the 9.0?
Very bad! It was due to arrive in the beginning of last week from the US but (probably with that NATO's c**p conference) it's still held in customs... i'm waiting for a reply from them to see what's happening with it! It's a shame Jeff hasn't yet realized that he has no other cab appart from the Uber 410 capable to crank up the 9.0... how about some STL's 12T with 500W@8ohm? Shurely Eminence has drivers capable of handling that without breaking a sweat! Back to the topic, i've seen the cabs on Thomann and they were being sold as 500W@8ohm cabs, no info on the peak subject (clever guys). I also coudn't find the specs for them on Fender's site... any usefull link, anyone? I was curious about they're freq range but now that i know they're only 200W i'm happy again for nailing that STL-12T! The price is very appealing (298€, around £255) but in the search i've stumbled in another interesting thing: Back to the off-topic: http://www.thomann.de/pt/eden_ex_112.htm Same price as the Fender but i can't see any tweeter in it though they state this is a full range cab (implying that it has highs?!!). Cheers
 11. That 112 looks great! Not shure about the tweeter switching though (full/off/-6dB) but 500W@8ohm would be perfect for my shuttle 9.0! Would love to see more pics on the back and sides. Can't see the handle on the web pics but it has feets to be stand on it's side (using as reference the pis on-line). Had they been as smart as Promethean with a recessed handle? That's the only flaw i can put in my incoming GB STL-12T...
 12.
I own a TRB5Pii (in Bubinga) and can testify to just how awesome these basses are. All the tones are in there with the added bite that the piezo gives if required. I've never come across any other bass that has as solid a feel as these things have. Quality all the way! I toyed with the idea of selling mine a few months ago as it wasn't getting used as often as it should but couldn't bring myself to part with it. New, these are retailing at £2200+ Have a free bump on me Stan and good luck with the sale.
+1 in everything but the colour! Mine is in ovangkol, like the one to the left The only one i liked more than mine was a Ken Smith (i believe the model was BT5) USA made. Another free bump for a lovely bass.
 13.
Nope. If you drive it too hard it just clips.
Ok, my bad then!
 14. Finnaly somebody with knowledge to enlighten me! One thing i don't understand... when using a pedal, the clipping happening in it afects the amp if it's gain is maintained in safe levels? My confusion (and probably the proof i'm the one wrong here) is on what realy could damage the circuit or the cab. I believe the long flat duration wave could damage the cab but it's the signal intensity that could harm the pre-ams circuit. Am i right? In this case a over-gained signal could cause damage to the pre but not to the cab if it has enough excursion to handle the input? edit: read the folowing posts and it's all answered except what could damage the pre-amp
 15.
But I can plug my bass into a distortion pedal, turn the gain way up, and plug it straight into a power amp. This way, my distortion pedal is the pre-amp. It doesn't matter if the pedal has a valve in it or not. I don't mind being wrong, but could you clarify a little more why there's so much difference between a clipping pre-amp and a distortion pedal?
Don't know any technical explanation. I agree you could do that with no problem but remenber a OD pedal is designed to be OD'd and a amp's pre (in most models) is not! So clipping would be safe in pre-amps designed for that function. I see this in most modern amps but TE advises not to clip their amps so they must know excess signal would be harmfull to them. Maybe that's just why they don't burn up like many others out there!
 16. If your's like this one then it's exactly like mine. Read page 6 for gain setting http://www.britishaudioservice.com/inst/12BAND.PDF Cheers
 17. In trace gear, clipping is strongly unadvised. Do you have TE's manual for your amp? If not tel me your model and i'll mail it to you. It's very usefull to read this before sart messing with all the knobs and buttons. Basicly the signal indicators for gain help you to chieve the optimal signal (in every bass you plug) to make the amp run in the best way possible. The trick, like you said, is to (with the volume cutted) play as hard as you use to play and turn the gain knob until the red clipping light turns on, then turn the knob down a notch. This will insure clipping never happens to the amp and it'll last longer withou risk of anything burning inside. If you need more girth turn the valve drive on if your amp has it or use a overdrive pedal. Beware of what Cheddatom said because he's wrong! The models made to distort the signal have valve pre amps to achieve this effect and even they don't do much distortion! Even if you use an OD pedal you still should adjust the gain knob to keep the pre-amp from clipping! Having said all this i can assure you from years of experience with trace gear that burning something in a amp or a cab (IF it is a pre Peavey made or pré Gibson-design, the ones Gibson built with TE's design are still as good as the previous) is almost impossible! Those babies are built like tanks and would take alot more beating than a VW beatle nad keep on going like it had nothing to do with them! Cheers Edit: just clarified something that might get confusing
 18.
Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 would rock with 2 Berg 12s - looooooads of headroom there That's all I can say M
A friend of mine used to have a SWR Headlite, i tried it and it was nice but lacking a bit of punch. He bought a shuttle 6.0 and after we tried them both head to head the Headlight seemed to have a little advantage in the low region. Now he's happily playing through a 9.0 with all the punch and low ever needed! So +1 on that (actually is +2 as i'm also waiting for the arival of mine... damn those customs... )
 19.
I used to use TE amps years ago and as great as they were I can only remember the weight of the thing.
The heads are not that heavy! The cabs are the major problem but you have two Bergs so no problem at all!
 20. Déjà vu! I've just mentioned i had a combo like this one in teh last post i wrote! Have a free bump on that acount for a fantastic sonding little thing. Sounds awesome when running flat with just a tad of low-mid.
 21.
No one puts a pint on top of my rig no matter how level it is
All my band mates and most of the staff from the bars we use to play are already aware that something evil and very sadistic could happen to them if they ever try to put ANYTHING on top of my rig! Muuaaahahaha! Having said that, my last gig was trough a power amp and a DIY TL606 clone. At some point of the gig i had sitting on top of it 3 pints and a ashtray with a burning cigarrete hanging on it's side... didn't care at all but if it had been with my TE... ohhh... there would be blood!!! On topic: I had a Behringer Ultrabass BX1200 and used the tilt back alot but didn't prove to be very usefull because, in pubs, i play in the minimal space possible and almost sitting on the amp so the mids still passed by my knees. My solution was to get myself a keyboard stand and sit the amp on top of it. Worked wonderfully becouse the speaker sat exactly at my chest/shoulders height!
 22.
You're probably right, but is it a busking amp? It still needs to be connected to the mains, and 30kgs is not exactly a feather
Ups... forgot that! In that case... probably this? http://www.rolandus.com/products/productde...amp;ParentId=33 Cheers
 23. If you want to see where your knobs are when playing and like a big phat sound for funk then go fot an old TE with the luminescent pannel. One with valve on the pre... or all valve for that matter!
 24. I would bet in this: http://www.rolandus.com/products/productde...amp;ParentId=33 I've played with it's predecessor, the KC-300 and my bass sounded lovely through it. Voices come out clean but you can never get rid of that typical Roland hi-fi'ish colour
 25.
Ah, but what is "that Trace sound"? With a 7/11/12 band graphic at the very least (not to mention various combinations of compressors, valves and so on...) the sound-shaping capabilities are enormous. So how can a whole range of amps/cabs/combos have "a sound"? Having said that, I know exactly what you mean! Is it all about suggestibility? Do we hear what we want/expect to hear?
True but still they do! Nothing sounds like a Trace but they all (my boxer included ) share a similar/familiar feel/vibe/tone and everyone (well... at least some) would recognize one from the distance without a doubt!
