1. I still think it's way too expensive ie compared to the EHX MicroSynth (£163 on DV247)! That's a pedal to cost near £100, in my opinion. Compared to the fulltone it doesn't have the two channels or the switches to choose from different OD types, they are very different even if one started out as a clone of the other. It also doesn't have a true bypass switch and i'm yet to find out about the quality of the components used. They're selling the brand stamped on the sticker.
2. That's twice the price of a ODB-3!!! Ibanez has gone insane! I'll wait till they start showing on fleabay for £50...
3. I've send my 9.0 with carry bag in from the states (in that time nobody was retailing it in my country) for £799 (=640€ in that time). P&P were roughly $70 (=56€). It got caught in customs and i had to let go another 91€ (with some gymnastic or it would be more ) to release it... In the end the whole thing costed 787€. On a local store, nowadays, they're listed close to 850€ with the bag (when i bought it i got quotes of 930€ from stores willing to order it for me!). The difference hasn't worth the trouble, it was the first and last time i'll send something in from abroad - of course this doesn't include the smooth deals i've been getting from all of you here on BC Next time i'll wait until the product reaches my country or other EU store.
4.
If it's anything like the 'normal' combo, it'll be kept on by four long thumb screws.
Yeah but in the combos the head is hidden on a recessed compartment on the back. This on has it on the top, maybe they've putted some washers on top to sit the head still and maintained the back compartiment?!!
5. How does the head holds on to the cab? I would like to have something that holds my shuttle head to the tilted cab without having to get the GB combo sleeve. The best thing i've seen was Fender's Jazzmaster's feet on my guitards cab. It has magnets on the head's feet and on the cab's recessed feet hold. Any idea where to get hold of something like this? Sorry for the threadjack!
6. Not light, but great sounding amp: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=118536
7.
You can't totally bypass the pre-amp by using the effects loop but the return socket on your Ashdown will bypass the EQ stage. (...)
If he use a preamp pedal like Tonehammer or Sadowsky he wont need the EQ on the Ash. Never tried one so i don't know the soul of the beast but (judging by my 9.0) i think it will sound tons much better when cranked up. If i use my GB for home practise without messing with the building's foundations or driving the neighbours crazy the sound is thinner and weak - the GB has two volumes: very low and very high! - but if i crank it up at a reharsal that f***ing thing comes alive! I'll keep using my Boxer15 for home practise.
8. for octave you could do better with the MXR or Aguilar. For blues... maybe take a look at a Chorus or a Delay pedal. Go to a store and try all out or get your hands n a used and cheap multifx unit and explore it to find the fx's that you prefer then get decent pedals for those fx! cheers
9. Search youtube for reviews of the Markbass Supersynth and of the Chunk Systems Octavius Squeezer. I had snatched a MicroSynth from fleabay and can't wait to get it in my hands. It was a close call betwen that and the Octavius but in the end i found the Microsynth to be more directed to the tone i'm after. Oh! You could always drop £600 on a Deep Impact if you can find a listing for one...
10. Never forget to turn the cell phone off when on stage!
11.
looks interesting. has to be said tho - given the number of demos i've heard of effects or basses, what the world considers a 'gentle overdrive' is what i consider a 'normal bass sound' !
It depends on your core sound. Many people uses valve amps or ss amps with valve pres and some of that valve grit is part of their sound. I like a nice and clean sound (hi-fi'ish) so to me the gentle OD is a real world reality to my sound. It's just a mather of personal tastes. Maybe what i call fuzz is just an ordinary OD to you? By the way, i've heard the video and liked what i heard. Nice bottom end going in this guy. Also dowloaded the specs and it seems to have no true bypass... probably i'll end up buying it anyway and send it to a DIYer friend to do the mod and a rehousing if necessary. It all comes down to the price they'll be hitting the stores, i never looked much into ibanez pedals, any thoughts on an aproximate price? Cheers
12. Thanks for the links. I'm heading home now and have a listen to it with a decent set of headphones
13.
There would be no need for the warning of 'Maximum 8Ω Speaker' if the outputs were wired in series...
Maybe a load over 16ohm will be too much for it and it'll sound too weak!
14. That looks nice! The TS is my favourite OD but never used it on bass because of the lack of a blend control wich this one has! Now... if only it is true bypass... i'm seeing some GAS building up for one of these (or a clone with true bypass mode). Any specs yet? Thanks for the heads up
15.
Might be overkill but have a look at the TC Voicelive touch.... I've just purchased two and they are absolutely fantastic. Very easy to programme and offer everything you pretty much need as a vocalist and also ideal for recording
It's a nice one too but, like you said, totaly overkill. She'll not be using the harmonizer extensively. She sings very well but nobody else in the band can - the guitard can tune a song but he's unable to do second voices (like 3rds or 5ths) and we all know that one of the requirements to play drums or bass is to have the voice of a mix betwen a bag full of cats and scatching nails in a blackboard .
16. I've been looking at the TC Helicon Voicetone D1 and it looks like a simple pedal but there are not many videos on youtube where i can hear it properly - TC gear in any near store is to forget. I'll be loking at your sugestions. The rack processor might be too much for what we're looking for, just a simple thing and rather simple to use because she's not very used to deal with gear, just pluggin in her SM58 to the desk @clauster Does that boss eats any signal? I try to run from boss pedals, for my bass, because of the lack of true bypass but i know some models are very signal friendly. Tomorow i'll have another look into your ideas. Keep adding more options!
17. Hi. My lead singer is looking to try one of these babys but i never payed much atention to this sort of thing so i don't know waht are the best possibilities out there and i'm counting with your help on that. She is looking at a TC-Helicon Harmony-G on evilbay but from what i read of it looks like it only does voices if the guitar is plugged into it and harmonizes those voices with the guitar's tones. Is there a pedal out there able to work alone, picking the voice and doubling one voice above and another below - and if was possible to choose apart from octaves (like a octave down plus a fifth up) would be great - who doesn't messes with the original signal (probably true bypass) and put out pretty good sounds for a female vocals? Thanks in advance, cheers
18. Here's a great head: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=118110 and a good cab: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=115300 They might not be the lightest and i think the cab will only do 300W but its a cheap and good sounding rig!
19. You could try to score a 2nd hand markbass from the sales section. As for the cab i would go for a 2x10 or 1x12 minimum. In the midlle of two 150W guitar amps one single 10" will sound weak. I can't advise any particular one because i still don't know what's your plafond and how much will be directed to the head. Maybe keeping that TE 1x15 in your sig until you move the rest of your gear and buy the head and then put it on sale to add to the remaining funds for a new cab would be the best option. That way you'll be able to get a good head and gig it with the TE until you gather more funds for a good cab!
20.
Looking at the instruction manual it gives the impression that the Spkr Out socket has another 100W amp sat behind it... not sure if that's the case or not though as the manual has a very 'loosly translated' feel about it... Manual is here.
It seems seems to me that that "100W max" reference is to what the amp will put out when the ext cab is connected. This value is the result of the internal speaker plus ext cab working together. It could be stated in a clearer way by Roland though. Seems to me that the amp itself is putting out about 60W with it's internal driver and a extension cab could be a better and lighter solution to get 100W of sound. Adding a second cube wil give a bit more power (120W) but also more weight!
21. You'll be just fine. Keep your ears open for signs of stress coming from the cab. I'm in a worse situation, i'm putting a 500W@8ohm head trough a 300W@8ohm 1x12 cab (although the cab says it's 375W in the back plate...) and i haven't had the need to crank the amp to a point it would bother the cab!
22. The Trace vs Ampeg thing is a mather of personal taste. Both makes are very good (the old models at least). I always prefered Trace's tone over any Ampeg but that's just what my ears tell me. If you're happy with your Trace i don't think you should change. You two great heads there - never tried the GP11 series myself but i recon they were made in the time all Trace gear was great. From your sig i see you only use 15's, you should try and get your hands on a 1048H cab. Fantastic earth shaking sound! A real powerhouse that'll complement your 15. Of course you'll need to start renting a crane to get it on stage in each gig though...
23. Altough the vast majority of P-Basses come with the standart: Vol: 250k log pot Ton: 250k lin pot Cap: 0.22uf configuration my Maison P-Bass copy came with: Vol: 500k log pot Ton: 500k lin pot Cap: 0.47uf i tried the other variables cause the material is unexpensive and ended up maitaining the first setup. the bass just sounded more fuller with the tone pot rolled off and crisppier with it maxed out. I think is a mather of taste. Don't know how far the pickups signal can affect the choice. Mine were mildy hot (10k). I read somewere that hot pickups would be better off with 500k pots and the 250k pots would be suitable for the colder ones but i'm not sure that's a right asumption. Nothing like taking out the soldering iron and spending a afternoon experimenting. Be carefull with the burns though! cheers edit: mistake on the pu value.

25. I understand your pain... that's why i sugested keeping the comp stored in the 1U rack space available instead of a nice and shiny pedalboard... a nearly empty pedalboard... with lots of space to store new sounds... it, it wouldn't even weight too much! It's just one more pedal and it's so small and light! Surely one more won't make a diference... GAS!
