1. I have 2 tickets for sale for the ATP Nightmare Before Christmas curated by Shellac (Friday 30th Nov - Sunday 2nd Dec @ Camber Sands, Butlins). http://www.atpfestiv...shellacxmas.php I bought tickets for a 4 person chalet a few months ago but 2 of the guys that were meant to be going have bailed out, so you'd be joining myself and the other handsome bass player in my band. We'll be driving from Leeds so if you're vaguely en route and you'd like a lift then I'm sure we can sort something out. This festival has all but sold out now, with the exception of a few of the larger chalets. Tickets work out as £190 per person. If you'd like one (or both) of these tickets I think the best way to do it would be if I ask for a 50% deposit now and then the rest when we get there. The lineup is currently looking like this (and they'll add more to it too) -

SHELLAC OF NORTH AMERICA
NEUROSIS
WIRE
MISSION OF BURMA
OXBOW
NINA NASTASIA
MELT BANANA
THE EX + BRASS UNBOUND
MONO
SHANNON WRIGHT
ZENI GEVA
ARCWELDER
SCRAWL
UZEDA
BOTTOMLESS PIT
PRINZHORN DANCE SCHOOL
THREE SECOND KISS
PINEBENDER
RED FANG
THE MEMBRANES
BUKE AND GASE
DEAD RIDER
HELEN MONEY
BEAR CLAW
ALIX
STNNNG!
RACHEL GRIMES
TURING MACHINE
GAY WITCH ABORTION
KASH
MYOWNFLAG
+ MORE TBC
Cheers, Ed
 2. His bass parts on Blood Sugar Sex Magik are outstanding - just the right mix of holding it all together and showing some flare in tasteful places.
 3. He's quite active on twitter https://twitter.com/#!/J_Alderete and instagram.
 4.
That made me laugh out loud. But then, this makes me fall off my chair laughing too:
That's really funny!
 5. You won't get distortion from the micro POG.
 6. I currently have 6 basses but if I had the money I would have a lot more, I could quite happily go to a BigRedX quantity of basses. I really enjoy having a nice choice of basses to play. Although as for guitars, I have 2. One acoustic, one electric. I've had a Gibson SG standard for about 6 years and even though I kind of fancy a Tele, if I was playing guitar in a band again I'd probably buy a second SG.
 7. I'm surprised this is still here, given the amount of Yamaha praise that goes down on this forum. Stunning bass.
 8.
Any decent compresor will be good for both.
This ^. It's all down to personal preference of the sound from there. I've been using a Demeter Compulator on bass and guitar for a few years.
 9. Get the bass you're after first, then try it through a bunch of different rigs. Since you're close to Bass Direct it would be wise to spend some time there as others have mentioned. I personally wouldn't bother with the booster but would definitely look into getting a compression pedal. There's been a few odd comments about compression in this thread that I think are misleading. Using compression isn't all about completely removing dynamics from your sound and I think you may find a touch of compression useful with a 5 string Fender Jazz, although the only way to really find out is to try out some compression pedals once your up and running with the bass and amp.
 10.
Ah hah! Further to my earlier post, it's not the black blocks alone, it's the colour of the attached body. Look at "project_c's" bass on Post #58. Beautiful. The neck and body form into one harmonious design. Balcro.
Black jazz bass, maple neck, black blocks. Looks great every time
 11. I've owned an LMK and a TA503. I didn't really like either of them for rock, but that's my personal preference. I wanted a more aggressive sound so I ended up switching to an Orange AD200B, which was perfect for what I was after at the time. I tried all kinds of drive pedals with both Markbass heads but ultimately it was valve-driven grit that I was after. I miss both of those Markbass amps, they really bought out all the nuances in the various basses I had at the time, but as gigging amps they were not aggressive enough for me.
 12. Have you checked out the smaller version of the Ernie Ball volume pedal? They're about £25 more than you want to spend, but they're worth it. I've had cheaper plastic volume pedals that have broken quickly and just haven't been responsive enough. My EB Jr volume has lasted 4 years of abuse so far with no signs of faltering.
 13. I borrowed a MM Bongo for a while, I was impressed with the playability of the instrument but I can't get past the aesthetic likeness they share with a toilet seat. So for that reason, I'm out.
 14. I'll share my amp and cab, no worries. It's just an amp.
 15. It might be worth looking into the older models of the TRB, I'd suggest having a browse through the old for sale items on here to get a feel for what they go for. I've got a newer model of the TRB1006 that I picked up second hand for a bit over £400 a few years ago, it's an incredible bass for the money so I can only imagine how great the older neck-thru models might be.
 16.
I have to tip my hat to him, he's very talented even if it's not your kind of thing, and I believe he spent a fair amount of time in Sheffield so he gets extra points for being local.
Warp records started in Sheffield IIRC. It's great to see how far that label has come.
 17. Urb, those vids are great. The guy is a pioneering musician.
 18.
Just waiting to pick up my Dirty Blonde far too excited about this, ill let you know how it sounds when I get it though! PS Anyone know a decent case for a Thumb (hiscox?) that will actually fit it? Chris
They don't fit well in the regular hiscox case, I'm not sure what your best bet is. I had mine in a Warwick hard case for a while, those things are built like tanks but they weigh a lot and they're big (compared to hiscox).
 19.
Someone once played me a track of his that heavily relied on him playing harmonics on the bass - I've no idea what its called - anybody know which track i'm on about? 20. Inspirational stuff He's got a new album on the way. edit: it's out on the 14th
 21. The first bass I bought was a second hand Thumb bolt-on. It was a fantastic bass to learn on and in my first couple of years playing bass it saw a good 4 hours + of play time every day. I still have that bass because I always come back to it, it feels so natural to play - probably because it's shaped my technique. There's something very unique about the mid's of a Thumb bolt on, and as Shizznit says ^ the sustain is very impressive! A harmonic on the 12th fret E string rings out like it doesn't want to stop!
 22. Oh, it's the special edition pimp model, you get this suit with it too:
