1. My band has just released an EP and I had a lot of fun writing and recording my bass bits for this. We recorded and produced the whole thing ourselves so I felt I had a bit more room to try out some stuff I hadn't done before, so there's a load of double tracked bass, some triple tracked in places. 2. I just received mine today and I've just spent about an hour mucking about with it and comparing it to the Whammy 4 (which I use loads). On a first impression the settings that I'm having most fun with are 5th ^ / Oct ^, the 5th ^ on it's own and the Oct ^ / 2 Oct ^, all of which are settings that aren't on the Whammy 4. The tonal difference between the Whammy 4 and Bass Whammy is huge, I was getting annoyed with how much a tone sucker the Whammy 4 was. Overall I'd say the Bass Whammy sounds a lot smoother. I'm not taken aback by the Chord setting, that's doing funky stuff to my tone, it sounds very digital as someone else mentioned before. At my next rehearsal I'm gonna give it a go, and also keep the Whammy 4 on my board to compare.
3. Who should I pre-order my bass whammy from? I can't remember the last time I bought a new piece of gear from a shop, I have no idea which shops provide the best service anymore!
4. Just play around with the setup, this is the joy of using a bunch of pedals - you can really craft your own sound.
5. Has anyone heard anything new about the release date on the bass whammy? Can't wait to get my hands on one of these, the Whammy IV has become my most used pedal over the past year so this is perfect timing
6.
the one to the right of the whammy is a newish ibanez analog delay... the ES-2 i believe
That's the puppy. Cheers
7.
Tera Melos gig last night - Nathan said that Digitech just passed this on a month or two before the release date...
His pedal setup sounds so good and I've never seen a band use effects in quite the way they do! Does anyone know what the pedal is next to the whammy? I could see that he was using it loads when I saw them and it sounded awesome.
8. I've been using Cleartune for a while now, it's very good!

10. I've been jamming with a drummer for few months and we've put together a couple of demos, we want to add another musician or two to the lineup and eventually get some vocals in there too. We're open minded to what instruments could be added to the band, at this stage we'd like people to put their ideas to the demos we've got here: https://soundcloud.com/irkband
11.
Just getting to the end of this now. Some bloke called Miguel who's singing goes a bit wafty when he dances (apparently No1 in the USA) Deep Valley, no bass, and no talent and probably no pants Beady eye, sh*t anyway Bloke from OMD got his bass strung upside down if I wasn't imagining it Bloke doing a poem. What's this programme coming to?
If you haven't got anything nice to say...
12.
nice choices, and I like the sparkly red!! last time I was in the studio I took my old stache and ended up using the Ge diodes more than the 'no diodes' tone for recording, it's a great tone
Interesting you mention you used the Ge diodes more for recording, I've just plugged mine into my interface for the first time using my Rusty Box as a pre amp and the Ge diodes sound great. Up until now I've barely used the Ge setting at all through my amp but for some reason this setting really shines without an amp in the mix.
13.
nice choices, and I like the sparkly red!! last time I was in the studio I took my old stache and ended up using the Ge diodes more than the 'no diodes' tone for recording, it's a great tone
I wasn't going to go for the germanium diodes until we talked about the Stache but I'm glad I did The colour is actually pink sparkle, I wanted something a bit outlandish for my board, under brighter lights it looks really pink but under lower light it looks quite red.
14.
From Joe's or direct? Feedback switch? Si
Direct from Fuzzrocious. The toggle is for germanium and 4001 diodes and the second foot switch is for oscillation. I've not had a proper loud go with it yet but my first impression is that it sounds big! I'm glad I went for the diodes as they offer some really nice alternative characteristics to the pedal from old-school fuzziness to much more aggressive tones.
15. This showed up this morning
16. Todd Trainer / Bob Weston really nail it live. There's something in the feel of how they play that makes me grin from ear to ear.
17. Stevie Wonder? I've heard numerous comparisons of Jamiroquai to Stevie Wonder but I'm not really familiar with much Stevie Wonder at all. I'm sure someone else on here will pipe up with some Stevie recommendations
18.
For me, Deftones and Beyoncé are almost the same. They make me want to move in almost the same way.
This conjures odd images. Do you get funny looks at the Deftones gig or the Beyonce gig?
19. Chenzo_1 was after a DJ5 a while back, it might be worth dropping him an email. I know it's not quite the same but ya never know
20. I'm impressed with the sound of the overdrive in that vid, it's a really nicely done demo. Here's more of Juan, this time with the chorus.
21. If I was aiming to run a similar setup I'd want to use a compressor subtly at the beginning of my signal chain just to even out the clean bass sound so that what goes into the dirt pedals sounds a bit tighter, but plenty of people opt for doing this the other way round with putting the compressor at the end of the signal chain - it really depends what sounds 'best' though. In the past I've found with down-tuning that the lowest string sometimes sounds a bit lifeless (especially if the tension is noticeably lower than the other strings), and a compressor has helped to sort this out a bit. Your best bet is to try out a compression pedal with your setup once you've got all the stuff you need, you'll soon realise whether you want one in there or not. Also, you say you're looking for a grinding-clanky sound... Check out the Tronographic Rusty Box
22.
Funny you should say that as i thought it was the worst sounding bass i'd owned. Seriously, i never clicked with it, not as stock, not as a PJ. A filed experiment on my part. Now i want it back lol.
Interesting, I wonder what this could be down to? I'm surprised at the difference in tone between my DJ4 and DJ5, they've both got that mid-rangey jazz quality about them but they're entirely different beasts. The DJ5 with the Aeros has a much mellower sound to it compared to the in-yer-face quality of the Lakland brand pickups.
23.
I love that look. I think black on back looks much nicer than a white PG. This is my old one
I bet that sounded great with the P pickup! I'm a big fan of the P/J combo.
24. Thanks to Bass Doc, my DJ4 is now donning a black plate. Cheers Doc!
