1.
You need to state a price. Forum rules.
You're gonna have to find that info yourself through ebay and gumtree, soz.
2.
So, um, how uh does it weigh?
Normal kind of bass weight, about the same as a large cat.
3. Come on people of the basses for sale forum, put a bit of effort into your ads. You wouldn't believe the difference it makes to take a little time with sorting out some nice photos and a proper description. This isn't aimed at anyone in particular, but as daily browser of the for sale forum these lack lustre ads are becoming too frequent. And the forum rule on stating a price - how hard is this to comprehend? The classifieds section of this website is a privilege, treat it as such! *grumble over*
4. This is really difficult stuff to quantify. I've always played in bands that have been very open to suggestions and improvising new ideas (I wouldn't do it any other way) so ideas for songs often come about in different ways. One thing I've always found since writing my own music is that I'll go through a period of time of producing loads of ideas, then perhaps months of coming up with nothing. I tend to use those months of 'nothing' to develop the ideas that I came up with before.
5. Try going up one gauge of strings, it should solve the problem you're talking about and save you a lot of money. You may even find that just swapping your E string for one gauge thicker will sort it. I used to play in a band that played in CGCF and I found the best solution to getting a balanced feel close to that of how I like standard tuning was to use a custom set of strings with 115-85-65-45 gauges (I usually use 40-100 for standard tuning).
6. Nice review What cab are you running your 800RB through at the moment? I'm in a similar situation to you, I had an Orange AD200B but it wasn't quite right for me and I replaced it with an 800RB (which is a stark contrast in tone). You're doing a good job of selling this pedal to me, even though I know that isn't your intention!
7.
Were you aware that Flea said he heard Eric Avery and it made him realise he was overplaying so he revised his style for BSSM to make his bass lines simpler but with more rhythmic impact?
From watching Funky Monks is appears that Rick Rubin tamed the Flea for that album too.
8. It's really interesting seeing what people are coming up with here This is a tough though, I guess these two albums have had the greatest influence on my playing Tool - Aenima For the melodic style of the bass parts that move the songs to new places. Dysrhythmia - Barriers and Passages For the aggressive bass tone and rhythms. ... I wish I was half as good as those players though!
9.
Wow way more 2 x 12 than I thought seem to be in use, and that's one cab I've never tried.
I'm surprised by this too, I reckon Barefaced might have something to do with this!
10. I've always used wax on the neck of my Warwick thumb bolt-on to keep it in good health, although I didn't realise Warwick themselves actually say you don't need to. The neck feels great, very smooth satin feel to it. My bass is a 98' wenge neck thumb bolt on, which is the same material as the neck on the NT model I think? I tend to give it a couple of coats of wax when I clean it, with one cloth the apply a layer of wax, leave it for 5 to 10 mins and then remove any residue with a clean cloth, then do it again.
11.
I have a Bronco and love it, they can be upgraded quite easily, the tuners are a bit suspect but since I restrung and did a wee setup it has faithfully stayed in tune, cheap as chips as well.
Broncos are great fun to play, really cool sound to them too.
12. Did anyone catch Spin Doctors on their recent tour? I saw them in Leeds at the Brudenell, which was quite odd as they're clearly used to playing much bigger stages. This wasn't my choice of gig, my girlfriend bought tickets and forced me to go (with violence). I'm glad I went, seeing Mark White and the drummer (name?) was great, Mark seems to have an effortless sense of groove and as a rhythm section they absolutely nailed it. His bass sound was awesome and it looked like he was running a very simple setup of some kind of custom red and white jazz bass into hartke rig, there may have been an octave pedal hidden on top of his amp that he used in a couple of tracks but I couldn't see.
13. I do the opposite to Doddy because I use compression to tidy up the clean bass signal, so it sits at the beginning of my chain. Just have a play around with it and see what you prefer the sound of, there's no right or wrong way to do it.
14. These amps are great The notch filter is so useful!
15.
Thanks dude. Yeah, that certainly have something special going on. I aim to do a similar interview with Nick as well later in the year.
That would be an interesting read. I'm gonna have to give Drugs To The Dear Youth a listen now with all this Tera Melos talk
16. Just read your Nathan Latona interview Shep. Good stuff dude It's cool to read about some of the ideas behind his sound as Tera Melos seem to have a pretty unique approach to music.
17. Quite possibly the best comparison of bass and guitar ever:
18. This is probably harder to answer than the best amp thread! Too many variables. Brain hurts.
19. and I think Grails need mentioning whilst we're here:
20. There's also some good bands on the slightly heavier side of [s]post-rock[/s] instrumental rock. Russian Circles (quite progressive music, with lots of loop pedal action done tastefully) Pelican (riffs!)
21.
"Humans may lose the desire to throw away unneeded items because of a feeling of attachment to these item" OC-2's?.........Unneeded? .......Whatchoo talkin' 'bout? Si
Haha! Perhaps I should have linked it to 'herd', is herd the correct term for a group of OC-2s? Or is it a pack? Or maybe a pod? no wait.. thats a group of tacky line 6 effects all in one box. I'll get my coat.
22. Would you achieve the same effect as parallel compression by running any compression pedal through an effects loop - using something like a Barge VB-JR? I'm going to try running my Demeter compressor through my Barge loop later, I'm intrigued to see what it sounds like.
23.
Try and hold out for a decent secondhand SS1 or the bolt on LX which IMO is a better slapper if thats your thing. The older LX's with the wenge necks being very nice and easy to play as they have a slim and comfortable neck very much like the vintage Streamers.
This. Especially if you're going through a Jamiroquai phase, Zenders sound is all about the Streamer. Corvettes are great basses, but tonally they're very different from a Streamer.
24. Another vote on the D'Addario Pro Steels, they seem to last better than similar priced strings and they're nice and zingy!
25. Are there any players you particularly like the sound of? I'd personally go with a Stingray 5 out of the basses you've mentioned, as I think they cut through mixes nicely in louder/heavier bands, plus they have a great low B. Also as White Cloud mentioned, Lakland make good 5 string basses with a cracking low B.
