1. Having owned a DB680, I can say that in all seriousness, it is among the very best pres ever designed/built for bass. Staggering. Though I tried, I never managed to pair mine with a 728. I can only imagine that the tone is outrageous. I'm tempted, but wow, the weight. If you can afford it and carry it, I would say that you can't go wrong. We see some fantastic rigs go through these pages but the 680/728 has to be getting towards the peerless end of the spectrum. Also, MrBassman is an outstanding pillar of our community - deal in confidence
2. A couple of PMs sent (31/08 and 03/09) with serious interest
3. very lovely - I had a FSR in sonic blue (fantastic basses) but this dakota really is very unusual and something special
4.
Maybe give it a few days? he only put the ad up on Thursday
Will do, certainly, and notice that the original advertiser is now logged-in...
5. Not sure if this is a dead thread - I emailed the seller just after the ad appeared (serious interest and a buy-on-behalf deal) but no response - just hoping that the 'family issues' in the original post haven't deteriorated
6. Nick - impeccable taste as ever - just staggering, the top alone is worth the entry fee!
7. Love this and was extremely tempted first time round - 'came to my senses and realised I can't play long-scale but still an outstanding bass
8. I've just sold a lovely RIM Marseer to Victor in an extremely friendly, fast and easy (international) transaction. Fantastic communications throughout and totally honest and trustworthy - another pillar of the Basschat community!

I've just sold a lovely US JO4 to bobglaub01 - perfect deal with excellent communications. No problems at all and very highly recommended
11. I sold a butterscotch USA JO earlier this week - absolutely outstanding instruments that stand-up with the best of the US boutique builders (mine went only as a result of my move to short-scale). Fantastic bass, fantastic price
12. Bump for another and final price drop - £785 shipped in the UK, £770 collected in Manchester
13. Ahh...the fretless used to be mine - it's gorgeous! I'd keep both
14. Thanks gents for the lovely comments - I'm blushing! Thanks too 4000 for the information re: the body - the flame is lovely and I suspect that the maple adds to the general tone and light weight of the body. I'm sorry that the bass didn't work out for me too - great balance but the scale is just too long (I've just been playing a shortie to confirm it's all I can manage...)
15. Bump - I now have the tiny torch for the luminlay markers. £860 collected in Manchester in an as new Hiscox case?
16. Hi all, thanks very much for the very kind comments - hahaha, terrier on a postman! To answer a few questions, shipping to the Netherlands is no problem (and the white case is included). The bass is really quite light and very comfortable (the carving is a delight) - I don't have a super-accurate scale but the bathroom scales suggest about 9.2lbs. Any further questions, please just ask.
17. Bump - response to PMs - thanks. Shipping to UK around £20, and to Europe around £50 (excluding insurance)
18. Probably around £1300 to £1900 depending on condition and getting the "right" buyer. If you're willing to export to the US, assuming you're in the UK, possibly more. Good luck and good to see some images

Platypus

Just sold a very lovely bass to Paul - fantastic communications throughout and a pleasure to talk. We met at Euston for the handover - perfect all the way through (just wish I could have stayed longer to chat!) Complete honesty, speed, flexibility and accommodation in every aspect of the deal - a perfect example of Basschat at its very best. Paul is a pillar of our community (though this is known to all of us anyway) - thanks Paul - fantastic deal and great to meet
20. Very unusual and beautiful bass at a fantastic price!
21. great price for a very high-end, hifi amp - the front-end on these is fantastically clean and accurate
22. Now reduced to £770 (or £785 shipped in the UK) MANY IMAGES IN POST 2 BELOW RIM Marseer in honey buckeye burl - approximately 20 months old but hardly played. I recovered this from the Gallery for a mate to try but he's mainly a five player. Thought it might go in the office, then decided to stick to the shorties only rule and put it up for sale. The bass was spec'd by a very well known and respected BC member and delivered in Noveber 2011 (the build thread is here in Affiliates from around p18): http://basschat.co.u...0honey__st__480) Basic details: Scale: 34" Nut: 1.6" (approx) String spacing: 16.5mm but adjustable to around 15.5 to 19mm Weight: approximately 8.5lbs (extremely light and-well balanced) Body: ash (I think) with a lot of flame (the body is chambered to reduce weight) - thick purpleheart laminate and honey buckeye facing. Electronics cavity cover in contrasting flamed timber (maple?) Neck: three piece neck through with flamed maple outer laminates Board: maccassar ebony with impressive striations (12" radius I think) Luminlay side dots Pickups: Armstrong custom in RIM laser etched cases Electronics: passive with Dingwall switch (very impressive range of tones from fat and funky to very passable J type - also very hot) Bridge and retainer: ETS Tuners: Sperzel locking Staplocks: Schaller black The bass is in excellent almost unplayed condition though there is minor evidence of player wear. No dents, dings or scratches - just a minor/faint scuff at the edge of the headstock (re-touched with a thin coat of lacquer - almost invisible - this really is a tiny mark). A very good range of tones with the pickups and Dingwall switch and a fantastic Gallery set-up. Martin dressed the frets, removed a bit of fret-sprout (very common on ebony boards), re-filed the nut and saddle slots, and attended to a scratchy tone pot. The pot is still very slightly scratchy but this really is being picky (it could be replaced for a few quid but didn't bother me at all). The bass cost £1800 new just over 18 months ago and is an excellent example of Robbie's work. It's also in almost as new condition - just very minor wear. The bass is set-up beautifully and plays extremely well with a very low, buzz-free action. I don't have a case, the straplock strap ends, allen keys, or tiny torch for the Luminlay side dots, however, this is an extreme bargain at £770 (or £785 including basic shipping to the UK). I'd much prefer collection in central Manchester but can ship (to the UK, Europe and US) if necessary. I have a strong carton and a lot of bubble-wrap but shipping is at the purchaser's risk. If desired (and required for international shipping), I can put the bass into an almost new Hiscox EBS case - I think it fits - for an additional £50. I can also supply it in a Mono Vertigo (again, almost new) for an additional £100. A gorgeous, custom, hand-built bass at a bargain price. No trades thanks and my opportunities to host trials is very limited at the moment (apologies - massive work commitments!) Any questions, please just ask
