  1. Past hour
  2. Yep, on my thru-body stringing Mustangs I just use regular scale strings
  3. That was actually going to be my last resort. Just regular strings and cut them down. I found some Ernie balls online that will hopefully be delivered in the next couple days that say they're medium scale. I'm going to try that and if I still have issues with those then I'm just going to replace the bridge so I can string them through the actual bridge and set up the body
  4. Thanks for all the replies. JPJ mentions struggling with the Stagg EUB to avoid it rotating - and my EUB is the Stagg - as advertised on here by Ordep and then in February intially. So that may be a major part of the problem for me, is keeping it locked in position. Which I can imagine would be a lot easier with a proper double bass. I do have the stand for this. I'm not really sure if that is meant to be used when you're playing it? I'd assumed this is just when you are not playing? I love the idea of the EUB and the smaller format, but can see the difficulty in wedging it in a position where it can't move. Anyway, thanks for all the ideas and information!
  5. I wish I could string them through the bridge but there are no holes there. This has to be strong through the actual body which is probably why I'm having issues finding proper strings. I didn't even think about that! I think that's a sign to just replace the bridge LOL. It's the one that came with the base when I bought it though
  6. Seriously fantastic Phaser!! And a bargain price, I recommend this highly.
  7. Zooming in on your photo I can't tell if it's reflection or if you can actually thread the strings through the bridge rather than the body. Have a look. If there are four holes on the metal plate next to the intonation adjustment screws then try stringing through there.
  8. NBD. Scored this ultra rare (I think) SGC Nanyo with a (kind of) through neck. Precursor to the Godlyke Deity. Great build quality and lovely (and not expensive ) BUT had clearly been stored somewhere damp I think (someone having a clear out of dad’s gear I believe. London flat was a hoarders paradise when I collected..!) So…. Slight issues are some minor (?) fret lift (lovely enjoy board) and the 18v preamp had two 2001 (!) batteries in so some minor corrosion. Of more concern (after replacing batteries) is the EQ. Volume and blend work, but other 3 controls (I assumed to be treble/mid/bass) don’t work properly. Not sure if new pots needed? 2 pots seem to be bass/treble boost and cut (with centre detents) and 3rd (no detent) *may* be some kind of notch filter etc? I think the Godlyke had this? Grateful for any knowledge (including model number/name if it exists!) and advice IMG_9450.heic IMG_9451.heic IMG_9454.heic IMG_9456.heic IMG_9458.heic IMG_9453.heic IMG_9375.heic IMG_9377.heic IMG_9363.heic IMG_9365.heic
  9. That's definitely a short scale bass, but the through body stringing is adding a good inch to the length of string you need. If that had through bridge stringing your current strings would fit. The recommendation to find medium scale strings is probably a good one. First hit on Google when I searched for medium scale bass strings brought up Rotosound 66s. I'm not recommending these strings (I can't stand Rotosounds) and with those gauges the feel will seem very light on a medium scale, but it's just an example of what's out there. You could also buy some regular long scale strings and be prepared to cut them down a bit. Good luck on your hunt.
  10. Thanks and looking forward to using it!
  11. Intrigued as to people's best ever bargains or the gear they sold, only to see the value rocket later. I'll kick off with a 2006 purchase of a mint '84 Wal Custom from eBay for £850. I thought I was Alan Sugar when I flipped it for £1600 a week later. I was offered it back during Covid for (gulp) £7k. I also sold 2 Klon Centaurs for £215 each around 2009. They're now 20 times that price.
  12. I’d definitely welcome visitors on my pedalboard if there are any pedals out there who want a place to stay 🙌
  13. The fatbasstone one looks like a no-no for me as it has knurled pots, and you'd really need solid shaft pots (or a kludgy workaround) to be able to fit proper vintage-style jazz bass knobs. I'd suggest spending the money on top quality components (CTS pots, switchcraft or pure tone jack etc) and a soldering kit. If you've not done it before, soldering is a useful skill to have and it really isn't difficult. With a little practice you'll be able to make something just as good as any of these with the satisfaction of putting it together yourself and using exactly the components you want. If you are upgrading something like a squier to use better quality pots, and reusing the original control plate, you will probably also need a tapered reamer to open up the holes for the pots as the mini/far east pots commonly fitted in cheaper instuments typically use a smaller diameter hole.
  14. I need some help! I just got a Fender American Performer Limited-Edition Mustang bass. It's got a 30 inch neck which from my understanding is considered a short scale. I'm having issues finding strings for it. I put two sets of short scale D'Addario Strings and where it tapers off, there's way too much play in the neck area. The string is not properly sitting in the nut. Everything I look online says that this is a short scale base and I need to put short scale strings on it which I have done but I'm still having this issue even when I put flat rounds on it. My instructor recommended I purchased the strings that are on the specs from fenders website but those are also short scale strings. The tech at my local Guitar Center said that my basss is considered a medium scale which is why I'm having issues finding strings for it. The internet has no answers for me either lol. There are considerably less options for medium scale strings everywhere. Some stuff I've read says just put regular long scale strings on it. Others say the exact opposite. Is there anyone out there that has a base just like mine or similar to it? Did you have the same issues I had? What did you do? Is my base considered a medium scale? Is it not short enough to be a short scale?
