I'm not a techy type so I'll likely describe this ALL wrong but whenever I've had connection issues it is my inability to recall what I need to turn off/disable on my device regarding connecting to the internet / WiFi. I always forget to go into my phone/tablet settings and switch off 'something' ergo the device can't see/interact. It is a basic thing that anyone reading this will likely have no issue with! LOL

Good points ! My Washburn status is a bit deceptive though . Whenever anyone sees that they say what a lovely bass , followed by “ that’s heavy !”🙂

Hi, I know I can't buy one off the shelf, so xan anyone recommend where in the UK I can get a new scratchplate made for my Lakland Skyline 44-64? I'm assuming I will need to send off the existing one so it can be cut to a perfect match. Thanks!

#1 Morris band practice last night with double bass. We're learning a bunch of Welsh & English rugby songs ahead of a Mari Lywd and Wassail in January. There was much interesting discussion about chord choices e.g. F or Dm/F etc. as we have double bass and piano accordion. We also started on a jazz version of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer which I attempted on violin despite it being a couple of notches above my ability, and this morning my left hand pinky finger is complaining about overuse

It was a fun one despite the guitarist/singer not being able to make it. He has something weird going on with his shoulder so he didn't come in order to not make it worse. So, the other guitarist finally had his new Jaydee OIdboy after 3 years of waiting and missed deadlines (despite being quoted 18 months when he ordered it)*. It seemed to be worth the wait. It's a very well put together guitar. He's got the three pickup version and that middle pickup adds a lot of beef to the sound in a really good way. And then I had my new Spector NS Icon 5 which shared duties with my Dingwall Combustion. Dare I say the Spector cut through more... It's a fun bass. Took me a minute to work out why it sounded awful when I first plugged it in though. The treble control had been rolled all the way off! Really considering selling my Mustang at the moment. I don't really use it. I don't like the tone as much as my other basses when played back to back. Never thought I'd sell it but I guess opinions change... We got demo versions of two new-ish songs recorded and one unperformed song too which we were working on. Hopefully now we won't forget it all over Christmas 😂 *According to the guys at Jaydee, the order books are closed and they won't be building to order any more. They've got a backlog of 160 guitars/basses 🤯. As of 2027, they'll just make the standard models and then sell them when they're built.

Regarding reliability... Received the mixer, did a factory reset and attempted to connect using the MixPad app on an Android device. Error message 'failed to connect'. Repeated with a Windows 11 laptop. Nothing, can't even see the device in the MixPad menu (and using IP address doesn't work). Both apparently connect to the CQ wireless network but that's as far as it goes. Not a great start and exactly what I was afraid of using computers for live work!

Two rehearsals with two bands recently... First one: we'd recruited two new guitarists. One came to one rehearsal where we had to use recorded drums as drummer couldn't make it. We got a message then saying he couldn't think of anything to play and didn't want to continue. Other one hadn't turned up to previous rehearsal, finally confirmed he'd be coming to this one then never turned up. So two basses, drums and vox! Leaves lots of room for me to go widdleywoo, but we felt we did need a spot of rhythm guitar. So now singer is going to dust off axe hero skills and bring guitar to next shindig. Fingers crossed! Second one: after 8 weeks of cancellations by drummer due to excessive workload we got it together. And it was pretty good... We finally sorted out our rather aimless cover of "Do You Wanna Funk" - it's now a rockin'disco beast with a middle 8 stolen from RockCandyFunkParty and SonicYouth!

Honestly I don't think you need to worry about reliability and stability or indeed the lack of physical controls. I think it probably worried us all before we made the switch to digital only for us to find it wasn't really an issue at all, except for the time when I forgot the iPad Apparently they haven't fixed operator errors completely. All the processing is going on inside the mixer so you really don't need anything super powered to work as the control surface. A decent responsive touch screen is good but I've got a 15year old iPad which still hold enough charge for 8 hours operating (probably more but I've never needed to push it) and it works flawlessly, not least because Apple don't do updates. My two year old iPad only ever caused a problem with an Apple update which tethered my phone in preference to the mixer if I was offline for a couple of hours, they really don't want you disconnected from the internet.
