There will be nothing post 1995 in the top 20. Not because music before then was better but because the average listener is old and suspicious of anything modern. -

Bluetooth has too much latency for real-time audio transmission.

Keith McMillen KMI 12 Step and MIDI Expander This is the original KMI 12 Step Controller. It can be used as a set of bass pedals, to trigger chords, samples or even drum sounds. I’ve used it with a variety of synth modules for adding strings and organ for live gigs. I’m now playing more keyboards live so I’ve gone back to my Hammond bass pedals. There is software online to hook it up to a computer or iPad but I’ve always used it with hardware and it has done the job really well. I’ve colour coded the ins and outs with tape but can remove if required I’ve also taped the note names on the unit as I found it easier to see live. I used masking tape so it’s easy to remove without much residue to clean. KMI has now been rebranded as Muse Kinetics since Keith McMillen sadly died last year. Support is still available for all the KMI branded versions of their products. It’s really small and neat compared to a traditional bass pedal controller and weighs next to nothing. The unit itself is slim and made from woven carbon fibre. I have the original (tatty) packaging for both the pedals and the expander. I’ve included a link so you can see what it does. The Mark 2 version retails at around £435 street. The included MIDI expander was bought separately for £65 as I wanted to integrate it with my outboard hardware rather than use it with my computer. Postage at buyer’s cost UK only. No trades.

For two gigs i went to 6E for our XR18 and that was really smooth. No lag and certainly no congestion. It just wasn’t very convenient as i was using my home router. Still thinking about going that route though if we get any more issues. At the moment 2.4ghz is working better for us.

Some years back Spector introduced bridges that weigh around 180g compared to the older bridges that weighed 500-600g. It was a quick way to drop almost a pound from the overall weight of the instruments and I've seen no discernible change to tone. I posted about this a couple of times in the big Spector Fans thread. The consequences of this on a light bass is that it's going to make it neck/headstock heavy. I have an early Euro 5LX that is /was quite a heavy beast and when I replaced the bridge with a new light one, it did change the balance but it's a heavy enough pair of wings that it doesn't dive. Newer instruments tend to be lighter and some are "weight relieved". If neck-dive is the problem, we either need to lighten the headstock or get some ballast loaded on to the body. There are other options like moving strap-locks or adding extensions but that tends to be anathema to the Spectorati and it affects resale. Solutions to either cure or reduce neck-dive: Using a wide strap that has a suede/raw leather inside surface so it increases the friction Lightweight tuners - make sure you compare the weights of what you're proposing to change out with what you're going to put in. If the new ones weigh 50% of what's coming out, see how the bass balances with two of the old ones removed so you get an understanding of how it'll balance before you commit to buying the new light ones. Get an old bridge. This is obviously going to add at least 400g to the overall weight of the bass.

Exactly 👍

"Tone" as completely subjective. AFAIAC even playing pick with a pick some more mids are always a good thing.

Bass line surprise - “it’s my life” no doubt

Not really. Full of spelling mistakes (and they must be band if I can spot them) and a rather tasteless jab at Mark Hollis considering that he's passed away the year before the article was written and the author couldn't even be bothered to do a little research. -

Yes. I guess one problem with WiFi is people having their phones searching for SSIDs all the time. Latching onto your transmitter and trying to see if they can connect.

Interesting piece. https://2loud2oldmusic.com/2020/06/22/the-original-vs-the-cover-its-my-life/ -
Yeah, I was not clear with what I was trying to got say. Worded it wrong and way off the mark lol, but I am noticing more issues with 5.8 than I did a few years ago, at least at gigs we do regularly.

No, not the same freq, I was just pointing out that things are shifting away from 2.4ghz and 5.8 is getting more crowded now. I do appreciate even 5G works in the 2.4Ghz range.

We didn't adjust the output of the HF driver, but there didn't appear to be any lack of treble. I've been asked more than a few times to produce a cab without a tweeter/crossover to act as a "sub" for LFSys cabs. When I tried it, there was more bass - as you'd expect - but the overall sound quality was noticeably inferior. I'm pretty sure this is because the second bass driver doesn't sound great when it's unequalised and operating above 2kHz: most large cone drivers have resonant peaks at or above this frequency that my crossovers deliberately remove. Adding a crossover to equalise and roll off the LF driver might fix this, but then you might as well go the whole hog and fit the compression driver and horn as well.

Here we have my DBX DriveRack PX professional loudspeaker management processor with matching DBX reference microphone for sale. I am the second owner, and this has lived in a flightcase all its life alongside my mixing console. Condition is used, although the reference mic was new this year (2025) has never been used in anger. A great tool for those of us who mix live sound from stage side whilst playing. I’m only selling as I have now upgraded my bass bins to a matching pair to my tops so will be using the internal crossovers to cut down on the weight of gear I shlep to gigs. Because I am inherently lazy, I asked ChatGPT to describe the functionality and this is what it came up with, which sounds accurate to me based on my experience. “The DBX DriveRack PX is a professional loudspeaker management system that optimises live sound systems. It combines automatic room tuning, crossover control, EQ, dynamics, and feedback suppression in one rack-mount unit. Using the included DBXRTA-M measurement microphone, you can run auto-EQ and real-time analysis to tailor your speakers and subs for smooth, balanced frequency response in any venue. Other key features include configurable crossovers, delay alignment, compression/limiting, and feedback elimination, making it ideal for PA systems, bands, DJs, and event sound setups.” I’m looking for £300 for the DriveRack and reference mic, or £250 for the DriveRack and £50 for the microphone. Collection from Killingworth Newcastle upon Tyne, or delivery at the buyers cost and risk. Any questions, please ask!

Might they also be the wrong taper, lin instead of log (or vice versa)?
-
No, it doesn't touch that band - its a combination of 700MHz, 3.5GHz and 26-40GHz, all clear of 5.8GHz (and 2.4)

Ok looking at it more closely I guess I need a Bluetooth dongle to plug into my amp phones socket as I can pick up mid priced headphones from numerous places. any suggestions for the dongle bit ?

Been a staple of our set for ages. I’m fairly sure Cover Solutions did a tab version of it which should still be on You Tube. I believe that’s where I learn it.
