I’ve found Fender flats to be high tension and as above the JMJ Mustangs come with them. And of all the flats that have come on the various Mustangs I’ve had imo the Fenders sounded best with them, you can get the thump but also highs and aggressiveness if needed.

Another one bites the dust - London Guitar Shops.
Lozz196 replied to TrevorR's topic in General Discussion
It’s a shame these shops are going. I remember back in 1991 when I needed a bass amp head just going to Denmark St area and checking out both what I liked and what I could afford. I then had the difficulty of getting it home - fortunately I hadn’t bought an SVT!- 1 reply

The JMJ model comes with the Fender flats so they will work. I think they sound great - I sometimes have them on my Lionel. When new they are brighter than the La Bellas but react well to the tone control. I think the feel under the fingers of the Fender Flats is a lot nicer than the La Bellas and I do like La Bellas as well. The Fenders are a lot less grabby when the fingers get a bit sweaty. I have not tried the others.

Minininjarob started following Recommendations for tools for bass setup?

Hi all, would appreciate some input, as I am prone to buying lots of stuff I don't need, including tools! Basically I am quite new to bass (4y) but have been into electronics and woodwork for a long time. As such setting up my own basses has been pretty easy for me, and I've set up some friends basses (free of charge) which they have been very happy about (including a Status Graphite Black Beauty which was scary, I took it completely apart and machine polished the lacquer over the carbon fibre!). Long term I'd like to start a business doing it to help with what will be a fairly crap pension. For a start I'd like the kit to do basic setups, also fret leveling and crowning, replacing nuts. Not full on luthier yet, baby steps first! So what are peoples recommendations for kit that I would absolutely need, and which products are best for it? I don't mind spending money for good tools (god knows I've got so much money in specialist cycle repair tools!) but I know some cheaper options are just as good and save money. Hopefully this might be useful for other people too. Thanks all!

Really like that, great playing and vocal too, bass is great, drums too. I'd always assumed Harry Styles was some teenybop popstar that had limited appeal to an old git like me, I'm well impressed with that 👍🏼 Doubt I'd copy his dress sense tho... 🙄

I wasn't trying to hijack a thread, I gave a quick post with my experience and people kept asking me questions! I didn't blame Dave, he did what he could I think, its just important to understand they can't help with everything rather than just have blanket praise that they are always amazing. If you want to ignore my experience that fine, I don't mind. Maybe I think its more to do with the fact that some modern amps, while lightweight and small, just aren't as fixable as older ones, which is why I don't own or want one. Also do they have to provide such good service as they break down more than other brands? I really don't know, and I don't think it would be possible to find out with any accuracy, so it would be unfair to assume that. Its great they give good service but I'd rather have an amp that never breaks down personally. (btw the sex panther ref was awesome, made me smile!)

I looooove my 1973 Mustang. However, not a big fan of the strings yet. When I bought it, I immediately put the "classic" Labella Mustang flats on it. But, as Labellas tend to do IME: the E-string is dead. Like, really dead. I'd like to replace the strings with different flats. Relatively high tension (so TI flats are out), string through body. So far, I've narrowed the choice down to: -D'Addario ECB81M -Galli JF4505M -Fender 9050L Any other advice?

Nice example but I had to double take on the price. It’s probably a bit more than I’d expect for a 3tsb 66.

Thanks!! I tried everything and couldn’t find this. -
I got this last year from Bass Direct. Its about 7 months old and only really used on my desk at home plus about 3 rehearsals. Ive been using my GP-5 and now GP-50 so much this is just gathering dust. im also eyeing up the new Bass Driver Elite so this will not really get used anymore. Works perfectly and has never missed a beat. I've never used the original PSU so thats still in the box as it came, along with all the paperwork/sticker etc. Looking for £180 posted Track24 to mainland UK, or £175 for collection in central London. You are welcome to come and try it, but as i live in a flat it will have to be at a very low volume, or with headphones.

The MXR Bass Auto Q is an auto-wah / envelope filter based on the sound of the Cry Baby pedal, this one designed specifically for bass guitar. The Bass Auto Q features adjustable sensitivity and blendable LFO signal. Condition is decent, the case has some chipped paint (around the base plate), just dusty otherwise. Everything works as it should. All it's original knobs present and correct. Seen these listed on ebay for a fair bit more than this and in roughly this condition. this is the broken battery clip, for some reason the battery hatch doesn't stay shut by itself either hence the velcro fix by a previous owner from these parts, does the job Pedal is in Hope Valley (S33 6SB) if you're passing for local collection or I can do local delivery, also happy to do UK postage.

Another cool pedal I've had sat around a while, sounds great, I just don't use dirt in my current setup so while it sounds really good it's just sat in a cupboard and might as well be getting used by someone. Condition is excellent / looks new to me. Here's someone doing a demo of one: Pedal is in Hope Valley (S33 6SB) if you're passing for collection or I can do local delivery, also happy to do UK poastage.

Great sounding preamp/di, I'm having a clear out of things I don't use enough to warrant keeping and I already have a clean preamp/di that does the job for me as well as a couple of colourful sounding pre/di pedals so I really don't need this sat around as it may as well be with someone who'll be using it. It does that lovely Eden clean crisp sound, punchy and lovely. Comes with a power supply (don't think it's the original one) but I used with my voodoo lab power supply as that does 15v. Condition is very very good. Pedal is in Hope Valley (S33 6SB) if you're passing for collection or I can deliver locally, happy to post within UK.

"Fender 2008 American Standard P bass"😁 Very classy bit of kit and a real bargain. If anyone starting out ever fancies a P-Bass, just skip the Squiers, the MIM's, and anything else in between and go straight to an American Standard 😊 Will save you in the long run and you'll get a true classic and a bass that will last. IMHO. GLWTS

Virtually new Fender Bassman 100 cover from Roqsolid, i got it to use while my flightcase was being manufactured so was only used briefly. Its a little dusty but will wipe. They're about £65 new + shipping Cover is in Hope Valley, happy to post within UK, probably gonna cost a tenner just for how small it doesn't fold up.

An excellent 6/12-stage phaser, being a clone of the revered Moogerfooger 103. I’ve just received a brand new exemplar from Andertons today as a replacement for one I bought a few months ago that had a loose connection. I’m on a drive to raise money due to unemployment so don’t even want to put this on my board. As yet I haven’t even opened it. I’m happy to leave it unopened or to open to test and photograph for the buyer (once payment is received) if desired. Price includes recorded UK postage. Stock photo for illustrative purposes.
