  2. I had a Fender American Professional I 5 string P bass for a while. Not a bad bass. The string spacing suits a switch from 4 string to 5 string and the neck feels very comfortable. I added a string retainer to the B string, which seemed to tighten the sound. The pickups as supplied were a bit "meh", so I switched to a 5 string Quarter Pounder.
  3. Beautiful bass, such an original looking headstock John 😎
  4. I had a Sire P8 that was a terrific bass. Everything about it was top notch, and I had no concern at all with the B string. But... I sat in Andertons and tried six basses of the same spec when I bought it, and they were all very different. Yes they had the same core tone, but two weighed more than a small planet and two had dodgy electrics. I don't remember the B strings being particularly bad, so that's a plus. The one I bought was a superb bass and was the perfect combination of playability, weight, tone and QC being spot on. The others, much less so...
  5. I’m considering building a music man/super jazz hybrid tone monster. The initial idea is to buy two quad coil humbucking pickups and set up the electronics for every possible combination. Each pick up would have a five way switch to choose between north coil, south coil, both coils in series or parallel, or off. And then a two-way switch to choose between combining the output of each pick up in series or in parallel. A couple of questions I have: Is this a viable way of combining the two pick ups electronics wise? is it even worth making all of these two options available?
  6. Given the state of the canine breakfast the accent is on the SHOULD. Any bets it won't disable the DI at the same time?
  7. Fire! - Sly and Robbie (and Ohio Players, of course!)
  8. Morning all, I’m interested in your opinions/experiences of 5er Ps, particularly Fender or Sire. I’ve found myself drawn back to 5ers since picking up an RB Streamer last year, but I’m after something a bit more traditional looking. My main concern with 5 string Ps is the B string - do they have a certain amount of clarity or have you found them to be a bit on the wooly side? Fanx. 😊
  9. Plugging anything into the headphone socket on the rear panel should disable the speaker - even just a dummy plug
  10. 2022 Squier classic vibe 60s precision bass neck VGC I bought this for a project bass and it fits the Squier body I have very well and played fine, however I just cannot get on with the glossy neck (my other basses have satin necks) Very good condition, just one missing bit of lacquer on the inside of the neck heel (unseen where it fits into the neck pocket) can't see much (if any) fret or neck wear. -Neck looks straight, truss rod adjustment headstock end. -42.8mm nut , bone nut -Vintage tint lacquered finish -Typical Squier/Fender heel size (around 63-64mm) I believe these are Maple with Indian laurel fretboard Machine heads/tuners work fine, they are a bit stiff compared to premium brand tuners. full spec here :- https://uk.fender.com/products/classic-vibe-60s-precision-bass
  11. Oh how could I forget this one: Ebay again but this time a Yamaha RBX765a,you know the one that can sell for under £200? This one has been fitted with SIMS fretboard LEDs. £1,260.00. It's been there for about a year or so unsold and I can't think why.
  12. Heat Of The Night - Bryan Adams
  13. I have a sire jazz bass that I routed some wood out of for new pickups. I’m considering routing out yet more wood for different pickups. Sooner or later I want to repaint the body and fill the unused cavities and I’m just wondering the best way of doing that. The plan so far is to fill the cavities by gluing in wood blocks, lightly sand most of the body, and completely sand the front, then use car paint spray cans for the refinish. My concern is that over time there might be some join visible on the front if there is wood movement - I’m going for a pickguardless look. Is it worth finding some very thin sheet wood to glue over the front? For example Hobbycraft have sheets that are 1/32 of an inch thick. Does anyone have any experience of refinishing sire bodies? Are they known to be polyurethane? And if so am I right in thinking they can be painted over as long as they’ve been sanded to give the paint something to hold onto? Would this apply to the headstock too - I’d like to match the body colour and I’ve GOT to get rid of that terrible shape…

  15. Superb bass pose start of 2nd song. Looks like a great night. Dave
  16. My fist bass was also a Kaman GTX 53, in electric blue. Nice to see a rare mention of one!
  17. WalMan

    PMT

Similar accounts to GAK except they managed a small profit in £,000’s on turnover of £25M PMT t/o £43M, cost of sales £32.4M, Admin and other costs £10.5M, Loss £135k
  18. Just seen an EBMM SUB 5 on Ebay just now,£2,352.72 or best offer. The "lesser" Stingray with the textured body and aluminium pickguard that I've seen go for as low as £550 or thereabouts.
  19. I did the same, still got a couple. Used one last week between my Hartke amp and old 4x10. The orange cable was easy to find in a bag of leads too.
  20. The comments on the Loog are interesting. I am neither a parent nor a music teacher, so these practical considerations had not really occurred to me. Thanks for sharing.
  21. Sold just yesterday. Thanks.
  22. I’ve never had a Canadian one but what do you mean with the tone control being weird?
  23. Yes I will be selling the whole board. Listings to follow!
  24. As they have round cores I would say there's a bit mellower than the D'Ads. Watch this video, from 1:56 to 2:42 and then again from 6:49 to 7:35, which might help.
