  2. No averaging! Likewise no integrating, differentiating, fitting polynomials to the curve of the number of basses bought in a given period or training AI networks to calculate the maximum entropy of the data set of the basses for sale in the marketplace.
  3. WTF is this?!? 😂 Mark
  4. I tried almost everything available on the market and as I already said it to you @wateroftyne, they are not good, they are excellent. The only pickups that sound "better" are the (not that expensive compared to Lollar and the likes) Lundgren pickups: https://shop.lundgrenpickups.com/collections/bass
  5. So where is this thread ? Did it get deleted ? There are several that mention “lorne”
  6. I mentioned Barts in my earlier post. I just don't understand them. They have a legion of fans however so it's probably just you and me ☺️
  7. Hi all Didn’t trust Philip Conrad on his JMJ pushing so went on my own to trial a few ‘stangs including JMJ briefly. Among them were the Squier one which is strung with Chromes and the Vintera currently strung with Labella MUS ones. Both sound awesome for the money and Vintera feels sooo awesome. I think it is the chunky neck. I then stumbled upon a Bronco pumped up with Tru Bass strings and an SD quarter pounder at a stupid price. Added to that the chunky neck which I love and the 60s cartoony (Pink Panther) sound I am keeping it. So 500 quid plus postage for Vintera and 250 quid ish plus postage for the Squier. Both come with cases and I’m happy to hand deliver to London or pick up Canterbury. Unless someone has something crazy to offer I will hold out for sale-only Cheers Fatos
  8. Bartonlini, had a Tune Woodbass fitted with Barts, hated the sound of it, had a top end Bass Collection fitted with Barts, hated the sound of it, had an ESP Horizon 5 string where the original pickups and electrics had been replaced by Bartolini stuff....double hated the sound of it....sorry if you just looked at you ESP and thought "hey! I'm stuck with that POS now!"
  9. The power of the "correct" ultra thin decal never ceases to amaze 😆
  10. This is a great thread! Thanks for all the eq suggestions 👍 I'm currently working on being competent with a pick, something I've never been, and I struggled getting a good sound last rehearsal. Will be putting some of your suggestions to the test at rehearsals next week. As for picks, I've settled on the orange Dunlop tortex .60 with the TI flats on my P tuned up to F# for some Smiths tunes. Working a treat at home, hoping for the same live in the room now.
  11. Perfect when played through a Line 6 Helix.
  12. I saw a reddit where multiple fanbois were piling in to say a new Fender Standard obviously has to be far superior quality to a Squier CV at the same price.
  13. Hi mate, this looks great. Good job! Eyeing up this kit too - how does it play? Does the neck feel good? Too chunky? Thanks!
  14. Stiff (i.e. not nylon) 0.6mm. Enough to get a good clack but with a bit of givefor comfort. I want the maximum contrast with my fingerstyle sound.
  15. For me, the best P-bass-with-a-pick sound is: Small boost at about 200Hz Big but narrow cut at 500Hz (that "boxy" frequency) Small boost at about 3kHz Treble and bass shelving flat Not a frequent pick player, but I actually like thin ones best. 0.5mm, ideally. Having a skinnier pick gives you a bit more control of dynamics, I find, and still gets you that pick-y articulation. I also quite like the green Dava Control ones - they're thick-ish but flex like a thin one.
  16. I may be thinking of selling my 1958 Fender Precision. Apart from a very old early 60's black refinish it's all original including the rare tweed case. Badass bridge fitted at present but has original bridge and both covers with mutes intact. The guard is the original anodized but the gold was probably removed along with the refinish. I've seen varying asking prices when these rarely come up for sale in the UK and Europe and would appreciate any input from the collective here. Thanks in advance.

  17. Currently wearing some regular slinkys but also has a set of Rotosound tapewounds
  18. The current Squier Affinity range is so capable it's managed to morph into the new Fender Standard to trick the badge snobs.
  19. BTW, forgot to mention it's a short scale as I've had some asks. Folks are welcome to come try it with no obligation to buy.
  20. I forgot to mention I've got La Bella flats on it at the moment which are not at all cheap...
  21. Haha believe me I know the feeling!!
  22. If you're after a particular vintage-y tone, preferably on a short-scale bass, they can be a shortcut to getting that sound. But you can approximate that tone on a full-scale bass with rounds, but not the other way around.
  23. For some reason, I've never really taken to Spectors. I has a Czech 5 string for a while, but was happy to sell it on as soon as I didn't have a need for it. This is despite lusting after one for years in the 80s / 90s and then gigging a couple of Streamers for years that looked just like them...!
  24. We'll I've taken the plunge and ordered two sets off Temu. See how we go. They don't even have to be good quality audio as I just want them for monitoring the rest of the instruments as a guide track while we live record drums, so we'll see how we go. After Temu discount coupons they were less than £20 a pair so can't really go wrong as long as they actually function.
