I found a broken paving slab in the back garden and used that. Lo and behold, 15 mins later, it looks a lot better. Lesson here is don't use a softwood base (cut bad puns) to hammer against. Masked the area off and cut it with a Dremel and new cutting discs and the cutting is almost done. I forgot to take into account the rubber edges which hide the raw metal so it's possibly one row of holes too large in each direction. The blue tape is just to hold things together as the rubber edge really wants to curl off I'm still thinking about how to fix it to the speaker cab OR to the red corner pieces. Magnets might be the answer here. I have a lot of the strong ones and a simple addition to the red corner pieces might work well. A little bit of velcro through a few holes would allow it to be pulled off easily. With a black baffle board, it might look quite good for me. Rob

Hi all - I actually joined some time ago, however have not yet posted or said hello. North West England based and been playing for a couple of years, having started at errr...60 ! Big music fan from the 70's onwards and regular gig goer in my younger days, but never picked up an instrument. Fortunate now that one of my best mates leads a local band with occasional gigs as singer/guitarist and he was swapping bass duties with the other guitarist, hence my opportunity...just needed to learn a few songs !.. We do 70's rock & 80's post punk covers plus a some originals from said band lead. So far, so good, up to about 40 songs now and of course too many basses already...

I bought my only brand new bass in 2021 - a Sterling Stringray 34HH - which was meant to be the bass that would appear in all the band photos, the one I would develop my signature sound on, the 'One bass to rule them all and in the darkness bind them' instrument. Alas, my eye wandered and over the years I have bought and played other basses with various shameful excuses - it's too heavy/too big/doesn't fit the band image. I need a semi acoustic/fretless/headless/spare for stage. In my defence, the main band I pay with have such a range of styles of music (from C&W, through folk, blues, rock and heavy rock to a bit of grunge and punk although not all in the same gig thank goodness) that several types of bass seems logical and as we're a 13 piece, it's sometimes a tight squeeze on stage, so the headless basses come in handy. With a recent series of depping gigs, I thought I ought to get my act together and come up with a consistent 'signature' sound so the bands know what they're getting. Fortunately, the Sterling bears no grudges and together with my amp, cabs and minimal board it has found a place in my heart once more.

You can't adjust/straighten a damaged stylus. A replacement OE stylus for that cart' is around £60. I'd be leery of no-name or knock-off ones, but it's your choice. Google it and you'll find plenty. It goes without saying that you shouldn't play your vinyl if the stylus is as badly out of alignment as you state. You'll do serious damage. It's worth replacing very old belts on turntables as they do stretch and even perish. If it's 40 years old, it could probably do with a drop of oil for the bearing, but enquire of the everything Dual website you refer to. -
I could use a hammer, but I just like better tools. I am so bad player that I use instruments that help me to sound and feel better on stage. Fender is not the one. Nowadays expensive most likely means that I would love to have it but cannot afford it. On the other hand Fodera is not expensive because it doesn't interest me.

Considering what is an expensive bass, you'd also have to factor in inflation rates etc. A bass that cost £1,000 new say 10 years ago would cost a fair bit more now (don't know the numbers, but it will be more). Though I would say that a "premium" bass would cost between £1,000-£2,000, and "premium plus" (i.e. "expensive") would be more than £2,000. What we also need to factor in is that new, "inexpensive" basses are better quality than they've ever been.

First, go there to find all data available for your turntable: https://www.vinylengine.com/turntable-database.php?make=Dual&mdl=CS+505&sort=2&ascdesc=ASC&search=search&drive=any&motor=any&control=any&auto=any&changer=any Then on the same website, you'll find the data available for your cartridge: https://www.vinylengine.com/cartridge_database.php?m=any&mod=DN165E&t=any&sort=2&Search=Search&sty=&ovlo=&ovhi=&can=&dclo=&dchi=&stid=&masslo=&masshi=¬es=&prlo=&prhi= Finally, buy a new stylus, like here: https://www.audioaffair.co.uk/ortofon-dn-165e-replacement-stylus -
You cut up the car! 🤣 Try using a bit of timber or hard plastic to concentrate the forces. You can then concentrate on the actually bent bits.

I'd still have a look inside the plugs to check the connections. Even if they're Eich and genuine Neutrik, mistakes can still happen at the factory. Has to be worth taking a couple of minutes to make sure. Combo jack/Speakon sockets use different connections internally for each type of plug. I'd ask a tech' to check over the amp if nothing solves the issue. We can't really offer anything other than suggestions.

I bought a "cheap" classic vibe p bass to play my own wedding over in Latvia to save me travelling with my ray , Sometimes, Ive taken it to gigs which need two tunings .. and a quick swap. The last time I We giggled I didn't swap I retuned the p to standard and kept going as it sounded immense .. I was quite literally dancing with another woman Infront of my rather outraged .. Stingray .. ... Even the photos look like I'm having more fun. I'm considering doing it again ... Especially as I've now got an anagram which removes the need for two basses as the pitch shifter is great....Send help or a good divorce lawyer

I keep thinking about connecting my Sony Walkman Pro to my system; I think it needs a service though. -
The basses I use for gigs are under £500. Not that I wouldn't gig an expensive bass, but the two 5-stringers that I own and play pretty much exclusively now were not expensive. In fact I'm starting to consider moving on some 4-stringers to make way for a new build (it's been a while and I'm itching!)
-
One of the first basses made for me by Alan Cringean of ACG. Genuinely compares with other high-end basses I’ve played. Get your hand on one (even mine) to see/hear for yourself. I’m confident that you will at least consider getting one (or two)….
-
I suppose the other way of looking at this question is how much you need to spend to get something that will do the job that you need it to, and then anything greater than this is expensive. So for me a MM Stingray ~£2 to £3k (half that if second hand) is the instrument I feel most comfortable playing, and hence anything more is "expensive" (as per my comment above). I will choose to ignore the fact that a £550 Mexican Fender Jazz into a £25 DI box would get me through most gigs!

All unused, top quality sets. Double ball ends but possibly can be used for shorter basses. 37” length. (I could use the outer strings on my standard scale bass but would rather sell as sets). * Newtone 5 string sets x 6: Diamond Bass, hex core, stainless steel, 46-130, length 37” (ball end to ball end) with tapered B. £25 each (discount for multi purchase) ( I also have a Hot Wires 5 string flat wound set…pm me)

And he's also very well known for being a mega cheapskate, so he bought the cheapest he could find and that was that Höfner (correct spelling), the rest is history.
