Thanks for all this input guys, May i just recap 😊 - the reason i have difficulty playing my Mel Bay - Bach for Bass by Josquin des Pres, is that i am still in 4th's tuning, this is a discussion i have had with others many times, but couldn't figure if it would be any easier but never tried re tuning and from all your comments i would have struggled to do so, with existing strings etc. fascinating thread cheers guys

Someone just sent me this link via my YouTube channel of this Herb Alpert performance from 1996 with John Pena playing a 5-String T-Bass..... not too shabby!

Further to this. I have had a Luthier recommended to me by Ged Green in Cheadle. Ged was the man in these parts for top notch work, and I've used him for decades, but he has now hung up his tools to retire. He has recommended Jim Fleeting - https://www.jimfleetingguitars.com/ In my conversations with Ged, he recommended I use Jescar 47104 fretwire, and in a subsequent conversation with Jim, he said the same, so that's what I'm having fitted. It will also get a new bone nut. I drove it down to his workshop this morning and dropped it off. I'll post pics of the completed work and my first impressions in a few weeks when I get it back. Rob

Not a transcription (sorry!), but a lot of my students seem to get easily overwhelmed by set lists for dep gigs, so I made this: Yes, it's common sense, but it's amazing how much time I've wasted running through songs that I've already gigged 100+ times.

1 Wal - yeah, I have a strange attraction to them despite never having tried one. Somone got their local luthier to make a new body for a Dingwall neck so it could take a pair of those mulitipole pickups and then fitted with a Luthisand preamp. Now THAT I'd like to try. 2 - TRB5P - they come up sometimes for not silly money and I think they're gorgous, but I'd like to try one rather than own. 3. Vintage Jazz? I tried a '74 one in the Bass Gallery that was very seductive and under £3k so not outrageous... but not realistic either I don't know much about Limelight basses. Best not to. Just another thing to dream about...

I bought Andy's 335-knockoff. Despite his car woes he did a sterling job of getting it posted, well packed and with good comms. Deal with confidence, he's one of the good guys. Thanks Andy

Now £350.00. This amazing emulation of the acoustic control corporation 360 preamplifier with variamp and built in fuzz is up for grabs. Hand made by the renowned JC Maillet and commissioned and imported by myself at great cost. I have used the 360+ for studio recordings, gigs, rehearsals and at home, it has never dissapointed. The preamp sounds fantastic and the fuzz section is the best I have used. I have owned this pedal for a good few years from new, as can be seen it's in pristine condition. Specially sourced UK power supply also included. Will happily run from other sources with the right leads (I used it with a trex chameleon). Fully detailed printed instruction manual also included. Only available as I have more preamplifiers than I can use. Try out/collection always welcome, or UK insured postage for £15.00
