  2. Where did I put that kindling? stake ? Check matches ? Check howling mob? Check
  3. Or 10%. Historically, Marshall used 'flat out overdriven' for their valve amps.
  4. Never thought I’d be happy without a P, but have since proved myself wrong. Still feels odd typing that - but my playing situation has a lot to do with it too, so it’s no real issue.
  5. Over here it used to be a bit like that. Cops could put someone in front of a volunteer Magistrate at 1am to get him banged up pending charges. Nowadays I don't know. In Australia they have to be proper lawyers to get into the game.
  6. You answer your own question, you have a jazz, that's all you need!
  7. I really like these pups 👌 Yours is only 2 wires though, you need 4 wires to do series/parallel/single. I’ve modded one of these in the past to have 4 wires, was quite simple, but this looks stock to me…. 🤔
  8. I did not really make my point very well. It was really that using mixed subs would not make a great deal of difference to the sound. I do agree that it is best to keep the low end from the tops, and even the high end from the subs is the best way of operating. There are those that evangelise the use of Aux Fed Subs exactly for that reason. Of course, there are others that say Aux Fed Subs are the work of the devil.
  9. Need doesn't enter into it 😎
  10. I went looking for this one today for reading practice and it wasn't in the index of transcriptions so, even though it was there if you did a Google search for a transcription of the tune, you wouldn't have found it on here. So, here is an old transcription of the tune 'Down Time' from the 1999 Holland Quintet (although this tune is a trio of Holland, Robin Eubanks and drummer, Billy Kilson) album, 'Prime Directive'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/down-time-dave-holland/
  11. Offers? I’m never going to use it and it seems a shame for it being here unused.
  12. Real Book and Pettiford book still available. Wpuld £30 delivered for both work?
  13. Alas, a sudden windfall still eludes me
  14. I'd not call myself an expert, but I can offer a bit of insight here. There's not a lot of standardisation regarding how amplifier power is measured. Some spec sheets will state "at the onset of clipping", others will define it at 0.1% THD others at 1%. The fact of the matter is, once you're starting to clip the THD rises very quickly, so there's not much difference in the measured power whether it's quoted at 0.1% or 1% - certainly not enough to account for the discrepancy between 300W and 500W. Something that really confuses the issue is that volume controls are not calibrated, so you have no idea where clipping is. To make matters worse the control law of volume controls vary a lot, too. Even if the gain of two amplifiers is the same with their volume control maxed out, their gain at 50% might still be wildly different. (When I worked at HH, it was believed that our midlands based rival were "cheating" by using linear rather than logarithmic volume contols. At low volume settings these give much more gain than logarithmic controls and it's easy to mistake this for being louder or more powerful!) Then we have the sensitivity of speaker cabs which vary wildly and this can have a huge effect on the actual acoustic power that's being generated. Which is to say it's all very complicated and unless you can calibrate the gain of everything any subjective comparisons of "power" or "volume" are pretty meaningless. That's not to say anyone is wrong about whatever their favourite amp/cabinet is, just that any comparisons with another bit of kit in terms of volume may not be very valid. (In the Hi-Fi world it's generally reckoned that you need to gain match to within 0.1dB to make any valid sound quality comparisons. 0.1dB is the difference between 100W and 103W!) Hope this is of interest and maybe even help, too!
  15. Everything about this was awesome apart from the camera work which made me feel a bit queasy
  16. The Lovely Eggs on Saturday the 1st in Bristol. Smashing band with great ethics.
  17. what else is connected? The noble produces 800ma which isn't much more than than the Mxr needs, so if you are powering other stuff unless it is very light it isn't going to work
  18. If you ask me, the JMJ is peak Mustang. But this is pretty too. The logo is a bit too small for me, but the dakota red one looks very tasty.
  19. Today
  20. Any thoughts on the new American Professional Classic Mustang Bass - have we reached peak Mustang?! Looks nice but I’m not sure what it has to offer which isn’t already in the range. https://uk.fender.com/products/american-professional-classic-mustang-bass?variant=51257875300639
  21. pure vintage ALL THE WAY!!! For the true p-bass sound, IMHO. Replaced "stock" pups for my 2002 MIM p-bass, and yeah, as good as the stock pups are, these are so smooth. I have SQ QP's in another p-bass (!), but nothing matches the Fender tone. I'm going to have a luthier build me a dupe Fender p-bass, and I already specified 63 PV pups. And he'll recess the hi-mass bridge, similar to the G&L, to avoid the bow & arrow string height issue.
  22. Betteridge's law of headlines, applied to forum thread titles … Mark
  23. Surprised how good Stephen Merchant is on the old piano.
  24. Buy mine and have the refin as a backup, haha!!!
  25. Selling a beautiful example of a Lakland Skyline JO4. Lovely sounding and playing bass. Made in Korea. (Pre-being now known as a 44-60) In great condition. Overall great condition with expected wear and tear from over 10 years of being played. There is a small dent on the fingerboard edge but cannot be be felt when playing (well not by myself) I have too many basses and this one is not getting played so it has to go Includes a Hipshot D-tuner and Lindy Fralin PUs No case included but I have some available if needed. Anyone is welcome to come and try it out! Collection preferred. UK shipping only and not included in the price. Any questions also welcomed.

  26. Anyone having any luck with powering the MXR with a Noble preamp? I’ve had the synth pedal since the first batch came out but it behaves strange when powered by the Noble. I did contact the guy that makes the preamp and hi had heard other with similar problems. It works great with the Mxr power supply so it isn’t a big problem but I have one outlet free in my noble and thought it would be nice to power my entire pedalboard either the preamp.
