Can anyone identify this 8 string bass (with trem!)?
velvetkevorkian replied to Angel's topic in Bass Guitars
Aha! Different name but looks like the same band and bass??? -
From the web: his main bass is Moon. I am on the same side with @velvetkevorkian: that green one looks a lot like Tune. Multistring basses, I think you can find fine instruments here made by @Basvarken.

I have had so little time to spend on this on really feeling quite guilty about it. I'll probably stick it up for sale in the next few days, with the bits to finish it off.

Send it back!!!!!

I think it might be a Tune, based on the body shape? Can't find any 8 strings or trems on their site though... -
But does it make a good coffee?

A 1986 Hohner B2A that has had some recent TLC and glow up. It's had a set up, fret polish, Monty's Montypresso on the fingerboard, new Status Hotwire double ball end strings, a new battery, a new cover for the damaged battery box so that it looks neat and keeps the battery in there. Lots of new screws all over too so it looks a bit fresher. The bridge has been stripped down and cleaned and lubricated. All the pots hve been cleaned and electrics checked. It works as it should and sounds huge. The pickups are the original in-house Hohner and a bit fuller than the later Select by EMG variants that were introduced in 1987 models. Teh pickup mounts are quirky as they have 3 screws and springs and you'll see two at the top, one at the bottom. It's a good clean example of a B2A. Out of all 5 I've "rescued", this one is the tidiest. It plays and sounds great. It comes with an ancient flight case that I consider to be just very robudrive-download-20250703T133312Z-1-001.zip I have proper cardboard and bubble wrap packaging and can Parcelforce for about GBP19 but would prefer collection. I'll get an exact price for insured shipping when I know where it's going. Check out 18 years of positive feedback on Basschat.

This is a video that I often put on at work as it's great background music, it's a live concert by two superb Japanese jazz fusion bands- Casiopea and T-Square. They all take to the stage at once and just share out duties. Anyway, I was watching excellent bassist Sutoh Mitsuru and for the first time I paid a bit more attention to the instrument that he was playing. It's an 8 string, and has a trem (!). I've been trying to find the bass on line but I've had no luck so far, so I was wondering if anyone recognises the shape? I'd just like to know what it is. The whole video is around 2h 44m long, but your best look at the bass in question is at 2h 14m when the bassists do a bit of showboating. Sutoh is the guy with glasses and a green bass. The other bassist is Yoshihiro Naruse, both very good! Anyone got an 8 string bass? What are they like to play? What does it give you extra sound-wise?

These only work with tuners that have screw-in bushings as opposed to push-in bushings don't they? I'd probably try one if I had a bass thay'd work with, but I believe the issue they fix can also be resolved by leaving the cut string long enough to ensure that the number of winds around the post is sufficient to push the last wind as close to the wood of the headstock as possible. -
It arrived today. Initial impressions after ten minutes of knob twiddling and preset switching. This is good. This is very, very good.

Saw him play with The Firm at Glasgow Apollo many moons ago. I was very impressed by him. He was using a fretless Jaydee bass at that time. Have a listen to his Blue Murder album with John Sykes on guitar and vocals and Carmine Appice on drums. Here's the single from it. Dave

kristo started following Flats with thin black silks......?

I was sorting out my music drawer at the weekend and found some flat wounds with thin black silks. I'm pretty sure they are medium scale from measuring them quickly last night. Anyone have an idea what they might be? I thought Labella as there's no silk at the ball end, but the thin silks is throwing me. Cheers.

Three Boss pedals. The Blues Driver is mint and boxed, I bought it new less than a year ago, and I've used it in the house once! The project I bought it for never happened. The Super Overdrive is a classic, good condition, a few small nicks, but overall very nice. The Tuner is also a classic, very reliable and good to use, again some marks, but nothing much. The BCB 30 is used, but no damage and is perfectly functional. Prices include UK postage. Blues Driver BD-2 - £65.00 Super Overdrive SD-1 - £40 Chromatic Tuner TU-2 - £40 BCB-30 - £20 Rob

Fair enough for the Moog Voyager effect, I'll need to (virtually) give that a try - but I think it is niche. And yeah, stereo modulations and delays applied to bass/synth bass - mostly if just affecting the high end can be great, but personally they are features I'd look for on modulation and delay pedals to apply further down the signal chain rather than a synth bass pedal itself.
