I'd be looking at the power supply as an 'allowance' or replacement to existing power supply, although possibly its an 'upgrade'. Batteries are consumables. Grey area. Pedalboard - Tier 1 fail. Any paint or screws you buy to fashion one out of scrap wood would be scrutinised. Photos would have to be supplied.

An elderly sax player that I know bought quite a bit of gear for his long-departed band, including a bass. More appropriately for this, many years ago, Mrs Zero and I were going to run an open mic night and I bought a cheap Tanglewood acoustic guitar[1] and unknown brand 4 string bass[2] for use by artistes - as it happened, it naver came to pass. As they were specifically for use by others, would they have counted? TBH, I think they would be fails. [1] Recently auctioned for charity [2] Recently swapped for an OLP Tony Levin

He's out. He bought it with his own money.

It is not GAS. I think the intention of the thread is to control rampant GAS. Technically anything that you buy to fix GAS itch should be covered (there's probably some special cream you can buy)

Also would just like to say that I am your compere and organiser for the year, but I'm not the boss. It's a trial by jury when potential transgressions happen, I'm just here to smack a gavel and shout "ORDER" every so often...

The decision to spend or not is not yours, in this case. Gear abstinence is about one's own decision to buy or not. Like I've just realised that I should have picked up a rechargeable pedal power supply for a little pedalboard before 2026, and now I'm not sure whether to go for the record in failing the test or use a powered power supply. Oh, and whether to buy a little pedalboard or fashion one from bits of wood I have lying around.

However, a local gypsy jazz guitarist recently purchased a Yamaha SLB 300 (which he cannot play) out of his own pocket which he claims is for use by whichever bassist is in his band. Presumably that would be a rare occurrence of a "band bass"?

This raises an interesting question which I think needs some debate - and possibly an addition/clarification to the rules. I will stick my tuppence worth in, but I'm not the boss - everyone is free to chime in and contribute to the evolution of the rules (even you @Sean as the petitioner). My take is that "band" acquisitions shouldn't count. My reasoning is that you only own a part share of the item(s), it is a precarious part ownership (if you leave the band, you'll (or at least you should) get cashed out of your share and no longer own part of it), sometimes it's not even you driving the decision to buy band stuff, there may be times when you thought the purchase was unnecessary but were overruled (in a dictatorship band) or outvoted (in a democratic band). If the gear in question is "band" property (as in paid for from a band kitty of some kind) then you don't really own it, the "band" does. Of course, "band" acquisitions need to be things the whole band uses - lights, monitors, mixing desk, subs, backdrops/stage dressing etc. I'm sure some items will be contentious and I look forward to some twists and turns in the future. There's no such thing as a "band bass" or a "band bass amp", so dinna start with your p!sh Happy to hear other people's take on it.

My New Year Challenge - What 5 String Bass, Harley Benton or Squier?
Gizmo replied to Linus27's topic in General Discussion
I keep looking at the HB MV-5JB Daphne Blue....Thing is i find Jazz'es to be a bit unwieldy and i've always sold on any that i've owned in the past(quite quickly)...But for just over 200 beer tokens it seems rude not to buy one to try it out,....Im just wondering if i can hold off the new year boredom long enuff to see if some B-stock bargains pop up in the next week or so..... anyone tried these with a High C ? -

Most people will say the Classic Vibe is the better bass, but most people probably haven't even tried the 40th-Anniversary basses. I bought this one when they first came out and it's every bit as good as the CVs...I have to say the neck on this one is the best Squier neck made.

Last gig of 2025 and the first gig for 2026 with BLOCKBUSTARZ Glam band last night was another SOLD OUT gig for us at Airdrie WMC. 2yrs in a row at this venue which is rare at this club. 2 sets with a stop at 11:45 to 12:15 to bring in the bells in our traditional Scottish way. Dancing from the first song showed great promise for the night and we were not wrong. The floor was packed for a lot of the songs with dancers on every song. Great atmosphere the full night with a stream of requests in first set. I think we had a total of 6 to mention those celebrating anniversaries, birthdays etc. Best dancer of the night went to a guy who seemed to be on the floor from the start and even gave us his full Alvin Stardust impersonation and was rewarded at the end of the night with one of our T shirts. After midnight we went back on for our final 3 songs and had requests for more. but the club was closing. Loaded up the car and managed to get home for 2:30am, coffee and a biccy and then beddy by bo time knackered having been at the venue from 3:30pm it was a long day. Thought i would give the Godin Shifter PJ bass a wee run out and boy did it sound amazing thru the Handbox WB-100 / BF212. Nice deep tone with the sharp mids cutting thru the mix, it was the perfect tone IMHO of course. All in all a great night of party fun. Dave

Zen can't do it, they say sorry it outside our shipping zone to get it to their Warehouse i'll keep an eye on the Japanese market to see if one pops up with the sites they support. Let see if Nafiri will do surface shipping from either their reverb shop or their own site

Sounds good to me: 1) it's repairs 2) you engaged Jon's services last year, so it is considered 2025 business, doesn't matter if you actually pay for it this year. But: If the scope of works agreed in 2025 changes in 2026 to include any upgrades/additions, it's a fail.

I like it - it’s wee metal stamps - only took an hour … though I’ve got 0-1–2-cheese upside down 🙃 🤦🏻♂️

Here we have my DBX DriveRack PX professional loudspeaker management processor with matching DBX reference microphone for sale. I am the second owner, and this has lived in a flightcase all its life alongside my mixing console. Condition is used, although the reference mic was new this year (2025) has never been used in anger. A great tool for those of us who mix live sound from stage side whilst playing. I’m only selling as I have now upgraded my bass bins to a matching pair to my tops so will be using the internal crossovers to cut down on the weight of gear I shlep to gigs. Because I am inherently lazy, I asked ChatGPT to describe the functionality and this is what it came up with, which sounds accurate to me based on my experience. “The DBX DriveRack PX is a professional loudspeaker management system that optimises live sound systems. It combines automatic room tuning, crossover control, EQ, dynamics, and feedback suppression in one rack-mount unit. Using the included DBXRTA-M measurement microphone, you can run auto-EQ and real-time analysis to tailor your speakers and subs for smooth, balanced frequency response in any venue. Other key features include configurable crossovers, delay alignment, compression/limiting, and feedback elimination, making it ideal for PA systems, bands, DJs, and event sound setups.” I’m looking for £300 for the DriveRack and reference mic, or £250 for the DriveRack and £50 for the microphone. Collection from Killingworth Newcastle upon Tyne, or delivery at the buyers cost and risk. Any questions, please ask!
