Stub Mandrel started following Battle of the budget basses?
-
I saw a reddit where multiple fanbois were piling in to say a new Fender Standard obviously has to be far superior quality to a Squier CV at the same price.
-
Hi mate, this looks great. Good job! Eyeing up this kit too - how does it play? Does the neck feel good? Too chunky? Thanks!

Stiff (i.e. not nylon) 0.6mm. Enough to get a good clack but with a bit of givefor comfort. I want the maximum contrast with my fingerstyle sound.

For me, the best P-bass-with-a-pick sound is: Small boost at about 200Hz Big but narrow cut at 500Hz (that "boxy" frequency) Small boost at about 3kHz Treble and bass shelving flat Not a frequent pick player, but I actually like thin ones best. 0.5mm, ideally. Having a skinnier pick gives you a bit more control of dynamics, I find, and still gets you that pick-y articulation. I also quite like the green Dava Control ones - they're thick-ish but flex like a thin one.

I may be thinking of selling my 1958 Fender Precision. Apart from a very old early 60's black refinish it's all original including the rare tweed case. Badass bridge fitted at present but has original bridge and both covers with mutes intact. The guard is the original anodized but the gold was probably removed along with the refinish. I've seen varying asking prices when these rarely come up for sale in the UK and Europe and would appreciate any input from the collective here. Thanks in advance.

The current Squier Affinity range is so capable it's managed to morph into the new Fender Standard to trick the badge snobs.

For some reason, I've never really taken to Spectors. I has a Czech 5 string for a while, but was happy to sell it on as soon as I didn't have a need for it. This is despite lusting after one for years in the 80s / 90s and then gigging a couple of Streamers for years that looked just like them...!
-
We'll I've taken the plunge and ordered two sets off Temu. See how we go. They don't even have to be good quality audio as I just want them for monitoring the rest of the instruments as a guide track while we live record drums, so we'll see how we go. After Temu discount coupons they were less than £20 a pair so can't really go wrong as long as they actually function.

Show me your 3 point replacement bridges hipshot/babicz
Jonesy replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
Well, you're partially to blame for me asking this question. Your NBD thread for your thunderbird reminded me how much I miss my Classic Pro. I have eBay alerts setup and occasionally get a bite, but I thought I'd check Reverb....there's one up in Chester and it just so happens I'm up near Blackpool next week. If all goes to plan, I should be picking it up while up there. It has one missing original saddle that has been replaced by a brass one and I just got wondering if there was a cheap replacement bridge that would drop in just so everything matches. I don't mind the 3 point bridge tbh. Sure, it's not as easy as a BBOT, but it does the job and it's not exactly rocket science to work with. I'm more curious if there was a cheap alternative that I was missing. Actually, I'm glad you replied to this first as I have a potential bone to pick with you. I'm also looking at a Vintage Pro and tempted, but keep on telling myself I don't need 2 Thunderbirds. I should stay away from NBD threads 😂 -
Dons started following HOFA Acoustic Diffuser.
-
Selling my HOFA Diffusor, perfect for improving room acoustics in studios, home recording setups, or listening rooms. This was attached to my previous studio wall. Smoke free, smell free etc. It was originally attached with 2 nails to ‘soft hold’ in place. My acoustician assured that this did not effect the performance of the board what so ever as long as the actual wood isnt significantly bent (its the geometrical pattern and shapes that do the diffusing ) . I had outstanding sound quality and acoustics in the studio and HOFA boards played a role in it no doubt ! No surprise you see these in so many studios, I like the look if them also ,, bit from Thomann: - Effective acoustic elements for the optimisation of room sound - For the best possible acoustic, for example, in recording studios, home cinemas or home-recordings - For the optimization of room reflections in the mid and hi-mid frequencies - Two-dimensional QRD-Diffuser - Design in untreated birch plywood - For professional and better working conditions in recording and control rooms - For an audiophile Hi-Fi listening experience - Can be combined with the HOFA Frame for flexible room acoustics - Option on the back for frameless suspension - Dimensions: 500 x 500 x 110 mm Price: £45 - (new from thomy goes for £88..) Condition: Very good. Includes: a very good HOFA Diffuser Collection: Brighton or London. or can post within the UK (tracked and insured, at your expense). will be heading upnorth 23/24/25/ August so can meet along M1/M6. Meet along the way or outside Manchester or nearby cities. Thanks !

Sunday day gig, thought it was going to be hot so took a fan, so did the drummer. We eventually made a fan table behind us and it was a good thing! The gig in general went well, normal set list, we didnt' get any new songs ready like we were hoping too, people were too busy. I used the Ric in the first half and it was as good as normal, but the guitarist broke his single guitar strap (he has 3 guitars and 1 strap), so as my ric has a strap with no strap lock I switched to my Maruszczyk in the second half so he could use the ric strap. In the second half he was getting electric shocks from his pedal board and threatened to stop so I let him use my wireless so he could continue. Aside from that and a few messed up songs that noone noticed, it went just fine!

Forget flats and rounds - these are curlies!

I bet they are to slide end down over your strings above the pickup pole pieces and give you more bounce on your slap bass solos. -

Its always interesting to hear what gear you pick from such a large collection but i have noticed you do seem to prefer your Spectors. I tried one in Bass Direct but just couldn't take to the neck and went for a Dingwall 5 stringer. Not sure what version it was. Neck felt very plankish and hard to the touch if that makes sense. Just didn't fit my hand shape. Would have been circa £1k - £1.5k price range back in 2016 ish. Dave

Another pedal I have used exclusively for contemporary dance work. Selling this Boss RC-20XL Loop Station, super versatile and reliable looper for guitar, bass, keys, vocals, kazoo and oboe etc. Perfect for live performance, practice, studio work and I know alot of folks are using it for private tuition ! Excellent condition – lightly used, fully functional, all knobs, buttons, and footswitches work perfectly. This is seriously feature packed machine and super easy to use ! Go online have a look to find all you need ,, so much out there. Price: £70 – seems fair considering whats out there, the condition and box. Condition: Excellent. Includes: Original box, manual AND A CD WITH SOUND LIBRARIES ! I mean that alone… (No power supply came with this) Collection/Post: Brighton or London. or can post within the UK (tracked and insured, at your expense) (will be heading upnorth 23/24/25/ August so can meet along M1/M6.
