  1. Past hour
  2. Price drop to £300. Think of it as £310 worth of EMG's finest bits that come with a free bass!
  3. I too have found this book incredibly helpful in navigating RSI arm pains!! Out of desperation, I started doing the stretches in this book and they have made the problems mostly manageable. In my case, after many many years of not knowing the causes, I finally received a diagnosis, which is thoracic outlet syndrome. Essentially the same principle as carpal tunnel syndrome (in fact, it concerns the same bundle of nerves) but the pinching is not in the wrist, it is between the shoulder and the top of the rib cage. Doing breathing exercises and very specific daily gentle stretches removes 95% of the trouble for me. Doctors and physiotherapists did more harm than good, in my specific case. Be your own advocate and listen to your body!
  4. Nice, I had the same PJ bass a little while ago, albeit, I don't recall it having Duncan Designed pickups.
  5. I didn't realise how quick that I'd get the bug, and start building a collection even before I am 'gig ready'! I have played a standard guitar on and off for 30+ years, and this year I have started to learn the bass. I'm in love 😁 A mixture of face to face local lessons and also Youtube and as much practice as I can manage (in between work, family etc ..) The 5 string Squier J Bass plays Another Brick in the wall beautifully with the low b. The Yamaha BB434 is just a treat. Gorgeous tones, as is my Epiphone Thunderbird - a beautiful instrument and produces the right low quality sounds. My Ibanez is a light, narrow neck, which suits my hands really well. Thanks for having me!
  6. It's a mystery to me, why this is still here, at that price. The sooner it's gone, the sooner I can stop laying awake thinking about it.
  7. I'd snap this up but my finances are not so healthy these days.
  8. Well, that took way longer than I anticipated.
  9. THE SONS OF ILLINOIS operates out of Chelmsford, Essex. We play exciting, crowd-pleasing Chicago Blues and we very urgently need a bassist who plays both upright and bass guitar. We have a good book of decent gigs for 2026. We have a strong social media following, with more than 2000 followers on Facebook. Band line-up is: Vocals/Harmonica Lead/Slide Guitar Lead/Rhythm Guitar Upright/Bass Guitar - CAN THIS BE YOU? Drums/Percussion Please call Mark on 07885 858158 if you're up for this
  10. That is one sentence we can definitely agree on. I do remember working with a pantomime dame who insisted on using his own costumes he had built up over the years. He had a Christmas tree dress that would be lit up when he walked on stage, then turn off. I assumed it was some sort of battery thing until half of the lights stopped working and he asked me to take a look at it. There were fully mains 240V bulbs wrapped around him on 2 circuits. He would walk out with himself connected to mains, then he would disconnect it by pulling an in-line 2 prong connector apart with one hand and getting the crew to pull the cable back off stage. The two prong plug looked like it was made of bakelite and the socket side could have easily been bridged with a finger when pulling them apart. When I started going through the dress cabling, I could see where bulb holders had been removed, the wires twisted back together and wrapped (badly) in dried out electrician's tape. He was a heavy smoker, so a coughing fit and slapping his chest would have probably killed him! I condemned it there and then and forbid him from using it, which he wasn't very happy about, but I slept better during the run!
  11. Wrong, Chris, it was the opposite, the frets were getting back and forth in the neck/fretboard thanks to a lever. There's was also the Neuser NFS with switchable sitar like saddles allowing for a fretless tone. And the two custom orders Leducs basses, half fretless / half fretted vertically for one and horizontally for the other.
  12. I’ve got an almost identical system and have the identical piece of silver gaffa tape over the LH hole on the back too 😁 made me chuckle haha. They’re absolutely solid systems - I mount the transmitter on my board most the time - but I’ve also had it rack mounted in an old tribute and it never missed a beat
  13. Not wishing to 'Hi-Jack' the thread - see what i did there?.. 🤣 I got a B2 Basket Case for £Low on a whim... Strip Down and Clean Up of the bridge, Tuner Thrust Washers fitted, pots were seized, so simple Vol and 3 way selector. If you have the file and are about to press Play, how much for a pair in Black? Ta Muchly
  14. I can lend you a butter knife and you could go at it like Jaco, if you like.
  15. Hi Tim, I think we are kind of agreeing in different ways. If the amp was faulty, or causing a PD to its own earth, then yes it would need looking at before it caused itself or the guitarist any damage. Remember, it is the current that kills, not the voltage, so in some schools of electrical thought, what you read on your meter may have been inside some sort of tolerance (although I doubt it). Did you get it fixed, or just leave it as was? Yes. The earth wire had been removed from the 13amp plug. I rewired the plug. I also had an incident at a gig where the keys kept cutting out. The keys player realised it was everytime he tapped his foot. Said it would be ok, he'd just keep his foot on the mains plug. I stopped the sound check and insisted on opening it up, and found a very worrying nest of loose wires. Musicians in general are very cavalier with inspecting cables. "If it works, it must be ok."
  16. Here’s that amp he built for me. Simple straightforward power amp. It suites me preamp perfectly. He has built quite a few preamps based on the classic B-15.
  17. Would likely take an interesting swap for this. I was hoping to use the money towards a short scale ACG, but also in the market for a Jazz, preferably a Flea signature in pink if there's any going round. Send me a PM, always up for a chat!
  18. For sale my Ashdown ABM 400 head with ABM 4x10 cab and flightcase for the cab. They've seen a fair bit of touring, I think/hope i've priced it fairly considering that. They still sound fantastic! These were built from what I think is the first ABM range by Ashdown. Built in the UK and I think in the early 90's. I've had the head and cab since around 2009 and bought the flightcase for the cab around 2014. They've seen a fair bit of action over the years but haven't really let me down. The tolex on the head and cab are looking pretty tatty in places and some of the knobs on the head have come off over the years and had to be replaced. Some of that patches on the tolex are from stickers and tags to identify them as mine backstage etc. The flightcase has a couple of spots of rust but is other wise in great nick and the wheels and brakes work well. Internal dimensions for the flightcase are W615, D425, H675. Custom built by the Flightcase Warehouse UK. Selling as they had been sat in a rehearsal room for a while but my band are no longer renting that space and I don't have room at home. Collection or meet up only.
  19. Guild Pilot bass was available with interchangeable fretboards, Novatone. Magnetic attachment. A short lived idea. talkbass.com/threads/crazy-project-still-in-the-works.482904/
  20. Yes, listened to some Magellan 350 demos earlier, could possibly make a an exception on the fan if it’s as quiet as people say as it sounds promising and has the right features.. so far I’m also zeroing in on the Eich T300 and the GR Bass One 350
  21. I got it at GAK March 2024 as an early birthday present - I sorted it out through one of the staff there Ryan who I had a few email conversations with about it. My local luthier set it up for me with the new strings and the old ones are included. I assume it was made in late 23 or very early 24 as it’s a newer model and relatively recent addition to the Hofner range. I’ve enclosed pictures of the booklet which has the matching serial number to the inside label - you can even see the name of the craftsman handwritten on the label. Hofner really know how to make something special. I’m sure Hofner would be able to find the exact date for you if needed. If you want pictures of the inside label and serial number and are seriously interested please PM me.
  22. IIRC the board was levered and could be raised a few mm to make a fretless and lowered the same amount to allow the frets to engage. I may have got that wrong though
  23. Cools sound too
  24. What I did with the mic cable in my case isolated the guitarist/amp from the PA. so I think, especially as we had a rubber floor on our stage, isolated him enough to stop it hurting his lips or grounding himself in any other way. I only guessed it was his amp as we didn't have that problem again in the same venue. However, as I said I vaguely remember him coming the next year with the same amp, so assume he either had it fixed or wasn't faulty either.
  25. Wow, a promo video that turned me off a bass I'd always wanted
