Yeah next level in some cases. It's why I enjoy playing pop, there's often a load of work gone in by people who are anonymous session players but with huge musical knowledge. The best of them do what is right without needing to show off. I've looked at a lot of Abba but their songs do look challenging. I've only managed Does Your Mother Know to date.

no problem with my wedding ring. It probably clanks against the neck but I don't notice A friend of mine caught his wedding at work on something and it took his finger off. I've also caught mine and my finger swelled up and it was quite sore. I keep thinking about putting it round my neck instead of wearing it

I'm a fascist when it comes to this. So many covers bands waste huge amounts of time at rehearsal by not pre-agreeing an arrangement. It's a bit like sending your bus driver out without deciding where to put the bus stops. I send out a spotify list with a version I think is OK, if people object I'll go with the majority feeling but if someone objects once we get to the rehearsal room it's too late, the rest of us have spent time learning the 'original' from the spotify list. You've let the band down, let yourself down, let your parents down basically it's up to the person who has done an alternate version who will have to adapt. Once we've got the basic song working we will always look at starts and endings and often make decisions about taking bits out or more often adding extra choruses and we may then come up with an own, arrangement. The guitarist and I live close to each other so we've usually met up by this stage to iron out issues. For instance theres a little decending scale in Maria played on bells that I do. I also try and reflect the piano part at the beginning of One Way or Another.

I never wore any jewelry until marriage. I lost my wedding ring because it was white gold and irritated so I fiddled with it (nickel allergy). Got a cheap silver band as a replacement, and wore that for 15 years, with no issues. 10 years ago I got a nice silver wedding ring, which is quite wide, and initially it got in the way a bit, but I got used to it. Then at 25 years married I got a long service award ring, next to it, and that also was a bit noticable for a month or so, but after time didn't notice it again. Then my wife got a fancy ring but it was too big and loose on the biggerst her tiny little fingers, but fit on my little finger, so now I have 3 rings. I also recently have put on weight so they were tight for a while. I notice I click them as a tic! Sometimes they hit the fingerboard but in general they have very little impact to my playing though now I am used to them.

I don't wear mine, never have! I think it's in a box somewhere but it was only a cheap one made of Tungsten Carbide - my wife doesn't care and I felt it looked weird! I did notice it clacking against the neck of my bass originally, so that's why I took it off. She married a pro bassist so she knew the risks.

Hmmm, this is today's new thing for me. I've had headless basses, 7 Hohners, a Status Streamliner, a Status "somethingelse" graphite/wood (sorry, can't remember) and I didn't know about the dead spot thing. "You're always on that Basschat forum..." "Yes, I learn stuff. Most days."

All I can say is that if the sound guys at church were so damn keen on everyone using IEMs, they should have provided the necessary equipment. Making it all work is their problem, no?

An excellent idea, but I have no pockets in my on-stage clothes and I am sure I'm not the only person in this situation.

Back in the 80s I wore half a dozen different Great Frog rings on various fingers. The only playing problem I ever had with them was the one on my right hand pinky finger, the ring kept flying off while I was playing and I nearly lost it a few times. I took to wearing it on a neckchain for gig nights.

all my basses have dead spots. It really doesn't bother me as you don't hear it in the mix down at the Dog and Duck My Dingwall actually needs its truss rod adjusting atm................rude!

I may be missing something, but if any item of jewellery is uncomfortable to wear whilst playing (or doing anything for that matter), surely the sensible option is to remove it and put it in your pocket whilst you play.

As I've said before, I'd had a bass for years and only noticed a dead spot recently. It was very, very slight - just one note that didn't sustain as long as the others, but as someone pointed out earlier the only way to 100% guarantee you don't get them is to go headless and maybe even use synthetic materials.
