  1. Past hour
  2. This ^ I can't speak for the effects of fretting a formerly fretless neck, but I've had basses that sang with a fretless neck and were comparatively lifeless when a fretted neck was installed (I like to chop and change necks). OK, the fact that it's both the original neck and that it's graphite reduces the risk somewhat, but I can't help feeling that Tony's advice is good advice 👍
  3. Yes, we've already emailed Rob & Dawn - awaiting response... Kiwi suggested Jon Shuker who apparently has experience, as well as Mike at Zoot & Simon at GUS. All avenues to be explored.
  4. I also just saw that you ca do this in the app. On the menu go account settings, notification settings and then at the bottom there are notification types available. Turn off push.
  5. I wear a ring on each finger of my fretting left hand and take them off when playing ! John 😎
  6. I read a piece recently about refretting a parker fly, which has frets glued to a carbon fibre fingerboard. The luthier (tony thompson) glued a thin ebony veneer to the existing fingerboard and cut the frets into that. If the extra couple of mm of neck thickness isnt a problem for you, that could be a solution
  7. That will most likely be a setting on your phone. It’s different on android & Apple but if you go settings and look for notifications then apps there should be a slider next to Basschat
  8. How do I turn off the Push Notification reminder? Every time a reply is made in one of the threads I have asked for notifications, I get a red circle with a number in it next to the bell icon at the top of the screen. However when I go to see which thread it is I also get a massive note pleading with me to turn on Push Notifications. Is there any way of banishing this so that I never see it again? I don't need Push Notifications. The notifications within the Basschat forum are more than sufficient as I am here every day. And any day I'm not here it's because I'm doing something more important and wouldn't want to be bombard with Push Notifications. Just want some way of saying "Thanks, but no thanks". about Push Notifications once and then never be asked about them again.
  9. Why not use (sell?) it as what it is? A fretless bass... and a very good one.
  10. Welcome. Bass IS fun. If you like to move to the rythm bass is THE instrument. Most basses - if technically in order - will sonically work. In the lower price range I would prefer a passive bass. Try some and choose one you like to handle and play, and preferably like the look of. Some cheaper basses may need a little handywork to feel nice and all basses from the cheapest to the most expensive benefit from a good setup/adjustment by a skilled technician. As you already have noticed japanese instruments from mid 70s and up are highly regarded. They are mostly good instruments but priced by popularity and availability. If you would like to have an 80s instrument because it is an 80s instrument that is also fine. I recommend starting with a 4 string. That is the golden standard and will suit 99.5% of all music.
  11. I have a box as well as a hard case that will protect it during transit (although won't be much use for anything else), so can courier this 👍
  12. Us modern single cut players tend to forget about that one
  13. Would it be tangless frets and epoxy to glue them in? Sorry, this doesn't help you, I'm just interested!! I expect The Gallery could help.
  14. Today
  15. Cost me a fortune on both the Luce and Mantle 😂
  16. Now reduced to £60. I now seem to have a surplus of amps, I've just got a valve Laney LC15R for guitar, both my Basschat 8" icabs are finished and I do have a large bass bin in the garage. This means I need to start to reduce some of the stuff I don't really use. So I'm looking to pass the Ampeg RB-108 on. Brought two years ago from Promenade Music in Morecombe, never been gigged (sadly), never really been played loud to be honest It's solid state, 30 watts and sounds great with both bass and guitar, just turn the bass EQ down a bit for guitar It's a great practise amp, perhaps junior or juniorita might need a nice (and cheap) practise amp for their new bass they got for Xmas. Details from the website: Power: 30 watts @ 4 ohms Speaker: 1x 8" Ampeg Controls: Volume, Preamp with 3 band EQ SGT overdrive switch (Super Grit Technology) Inputs: 6.3 mm jack input 0 dB and 6.3 mm jack input -15dB, aux in Headphone out Dimensions: 433 x 411 x 306 mm Weight: 10.5 kg It's in excellent condition. There is a tiny blemish on one side which is noted in one of the pictures below. That's the only issue and the rest is as-new state. It comes in the original and undamaged box, however I do not have the polystyrene bits that go around it and given the weight and price, postage could be a right hassle. I live near Settle in North Yorkshire and you are welcome to come and try it, and I'll throw in as much tea and chocolate biscuits as you can handle. I often work in Manchester so anything around the M6 down to Manchester/Liverpool is an option for delivery, as is Skipton to the South East and Penrith to the North. Sheffield is also a possibility as I can work there if needed. Interesting trades are welcome with cash either way. However I seem to have a number of guitars, basses, amps (hence I'm selling this) and modellers. I am looking for a interesting decent (but not a dreadnought) quality acoustic, preferably with built in pickups. Something like an Auden or similar, yes I know the cash would be significant coming from me You can just see the blemish here

  17. Welcome Chris, great that you’ve joined us, many many many Trace and Status fans here, suspect you’re gonna be kept busy 👍
  18. have you asked Rob Green? you never know
  19. Sub’n’Up mini. Very good condition - does have Velcro on the bass. Boxed. £50 plus postage
  20. Unfortunately it fits perfectly, therefore I'll have to give this one a miss.
  21. A full set of Spot On templates to make a Stingray style bass. Bought for an idea then changed my mind! Decent templates made from 9mm MDF. They haven’t been used though I have sanded the neck template very slightly as it was about 1mm too wide for the pocket. It is now a tight fit. For reference, if you are planning using a standard USA scratch plate then note the position on these templates is a couple of mm different (easy to adjust template position when building). Cheers

  22. I really do not like a warm toilet seat. If I have to use a public toilet, I like to use some tissue wet with cold water to wipe the seat. All to maintain the illusion that someone else’s bum wasn’t just on the same seat.
