Lol yeah she was shivering because I scared her with the tape measure. Interestingly I met another staffie owner that afternoon when I took nel to Costas and he said his staffie was scared of tape measures too! Try it on Spike, if he isn't asleep!

Hi Tom! How are things mate.

Quite honestly there is no point in another 4 for me because my two are all I need or want. I do like 5 strings as 'extra' basses though as they can then do everything I need, wheras the two 4 strings are my own specialised sound. I don't feel any different playing a 4 or a 5, so there is no issue with comfort or playability. So for a while its going to be two Vigier 4's and two Bacchus 5's!

On another note, it seems Vigier are changing the bass lineup at the moment - look at this convo here: http://www.vigierguitars.com/forum/message...id_question=409 apparently some changes are being made. I remember this being down to the equipment wearing out and the new stuff being harder to calibrate and use in the same way. Maybe the value will skyrocket now!

Cheers
Hi Tom! How are things mate.
things are good, alls going well with the bands and looking to be quite busy over the summer, hoping to travel around with them a bit.
Still in search of the right amp, am leaning towards tubes more and more, but portabilities still no.1 priority. it's a tough mix.

for a WHILE? lol :) how long is that in ped-terms?

i'm really diggin the look of the Bacchus, and that bass mute sound great. i'm gonna have to keep an eye out for one

The Villex booster is now installed and first impressions are very impressive. It really adds some guts to the fingerstyle sound and fattens up the slap sound very nicely, adding a thicker and bell like character to the top end especially. With the mute engaged and the back pickup soloed, a treble boost and the booster up 2 levens it sound like the most ballsy stingray I have heard. I had it installed as an extra pot below the pan knob rather than to replace the Bartolini pre-amp mid control after trying it pre installation. I am confident i can serve up most sounds with this bass now which was the origional concept!

Very happy - full review in the pipeline.

My new bass is being sent on Monday too which is great news.

Hi all, I have just found out about Ishibashi and was just wondering how people had found dealing with them? They have some seriously lovely secondhand basses in stock and I was interested to know how much tax and postage people paid to get them over?

They have a few lovely G&L asats, and a couple of sadowsky, as well as a stunning jazz made for japanese market and they are all seriously cheap. I recomend everyone take a look if you havent already.

I am loving the Baccus by the way, they have seriously got their styling down. How do they compare to say the AlteilerZ and Moon basses? just interested as the site has all three.

Cheers NJ

Hi NJ,

I got my Bacchus Jazz form Ishi and they were just fantastic. Literally just give them an email about the model you are interested and they will get back to youwith a description and quote with shipping and so on. You will pay tax and handling fee but it usually works out cheaper than buying a similar item here. There are some bargains to be had for sure.

My second Bacchus I got direct from the company - again, superb service. No complaints whatsoever, tip top.

Hi Ian, thanks for the compliments. The spacing on both Bacchus (I think that is the correct plural term) is 18mm.

Not sure if you are following the other thread but I put up this sample of the 24F: http://www.freewebs.com/chrishiscocks/mygear.htm (click on the speaker next to the pic)

 • 1 month later...

Newsflash...................

After having to sell my two Bacchus basses (They couldn't have gone to better homes) I put a deposit down on my new bass. I didn't expect to be able to have it so soon but thanks to a bit of help I have received the next bass in my saga.

Behold:

A third Vigier Passion. I found it through the Vigier forum and have always wanted a 5 to go with my fretted and fretless 4. It was only sent yesterday (from a lovely chap called Wolfgang in Germany) and to my utter amazement it was here at lunchtime today?!?! I was expecting it to be a week or so - from experience items sit in customs for a good 3/4 days at least. The chap works for Beyerdynamic and sent it through their shipping arrangements so maybe thats why?

Sounds - After being a little unimpressed with the standard Vigier pre-amp (rotart freq. selector and cut/boost switch and tone control for rear pickup only) I was expecting to want to swap it out, but I have to say this bass sounds so authoritative and there are at least 3 REALLY GOOD sounds I will use a lot, I am very happy. The Benedetti pickups are extremely loud and powerful, as anyone who has played my fretless through a rig will know - and they give the bass anything from an almost grinding all out everything open wide sound to a smooth nasal parp!

I will get some sound clips sorted ASAP, but I will be spending the next few days setting up my in ear/amp/live patches for the bass through my XT pro. Through the Trace V4 though it just sounds wonderful.

Cheers all

Ped and others interested in buying from Germany, there are no longer any customs controls, and a good courier company should get it here next day. (UPS and DHL certainly would)

Thanks chaps - Luke, come over and have a go. Was it fun watching England getting thrashed yesterday?

Chris - cheers mate, you hit the nail on the head - every aspect you mentioned is in my eyes the key to my sound!!

For some reason, I don't feel myself GASsing for this new Vigier acquisition...

What year is it?

Mine's Jan 1996... Although it is a Passion STD. I believe yours to be a CUSTOM.

(Difference being solid colours over Alder wings vs. Stains/Lacquer over Maple Wings)

Otherwise identical apart from the control knobs... :)

Hello mate!! You knew it wouldn't be long until I got myself a 5! Mine is number 086 - 23/04/91. That sits between my fretted 4 (15/10/88) and fretless (16/10/95). It really is a dream! The only problem I have had is with the screw in saddles on the bridge - the G string one does not screw in far enough. 5 mins with a file sirted that out!

Cheers mate, lets see some pics of yours again!
Hey Ped,

That's a nice one. I've always been curious about Vigier basses but I've never been able to get my hands on one. What's the string spacing like on it? Looks a bit tighter than your Bacchus 5's!
Cheers! The spacing is adjustable, at the moment it is set at 18mm so feels nice and familiar.

I will get some more pictures this afternoon!

Cheers
