I am thinking about buying a 6 string , :)

Can anyone recomend any Quality 6 string bass guitars that would be worth looking at up to £ 1500 mybe £ 1600 new or second hand that is easy to play.

I would be very interested to hear anyone's thoughts / opions etc

Thanks in advance

Chris

You could get a used Yamaha TRB6PII, or a new Warwick Corvette $$ 6 String. I have both and they are very good. I prefer the 34" scale of the Warwick as it suits my small hands better than the 35" scale of the Yamaha. I think a new Yamaha would be about £2700 ish........

I have found that the best 'off the shelf' so to speak 6ers tend to be Roscoes IMHO, The necks just seem to pay themselves… yo may struggle to get one for your price range though.

Last time I was at Bass Direct Mark had a nice Clover 6 in for around £1600 if I recall. That played and sounded very TRB to me, with a different, well rounded feel. As its new and under warranty, that may be worth a little peek!

without a doubt...this has got to be soo good..

OR....there was a Zon 6 on sale here...

OR like Rich said, a Yamaha TRB JP6
I agree on the Bongo 6, they are effortlessly easy to play, light weight and a powerhouse of sound to boot.

Agreed, played a Bongo 6at the London Guitar show a while back and was very impressed.
Someone on here had one for sale a a few weeks back, for a very good price, then withdrew it - could be worth hitting them up, if intrested in a Bongo 6...

You should be able to find a used Warwick Thumb or Streamer stage 1 for that price. I have both 5 and 6 string Thumb and I personally love them to bits. Some people find them heavy and maybe not everybodies taste but a Streamer Stage1 should be up there as well.

But failing that, second hand would be the way to go.

Whoops I just posted (and deleted) a recommendation without reading you'd bought a bass, funnily enough I was suggesting a Yamaha 6 string as a hell of a good bass for the money :)

EDIT: Just for the record I also suggested possibly a 2nd hand Modulus Quantum

Even more weird. I was going to suggest a used Modulus Quantum before I noticed you said it as well! However, there's some nice Yamaha's around too and I look forward to Chris's review.

Great minds and all that :)
Surprised no-one's said it yet, but £1500 is a huge outlay to try out a 6 string. If you're going to spend that much, make sure you go 2nd hand so you won't lose much (if anything) if 6 strings doesn't suit you.
This is very true, too be honest at £1500 one can find a hell of a lot of bang for the bucks in the 2nd hand market.
