USA made Peavey basses in the UK

I saw a 4 string USA on Ebay for £600 in mint condition with hardshell case - it was a bargain. They are pretty damn good, I saw a chap using one at a fayre and it sounded incredible, however! The pickups are extremely difficult to change due to their shape and fit but I don't see why you'd want to. I'm talking about a Cirrus by the way haven't seen another model i'd like. I'm very keen to find a five or six string cirrus and would pay pretty well.

You'll occasionally see a US Cirrus here, and I've seen a G-Bass (graphite neck) a couple of times, but the other models (US made Milleniums for example) are very uncommon IME, and much more expensive than they are in the US. The prices they go for on TB, even with shipping and taxes taken into account makes that a better deal in general.

One of these days I'll get one from TB and find out how good they really are- I'm a big Peavey fan.

For some reason there seem to of been a couple on ebay this month, this one is listed in a very odd area.

Don't know much about the newer ones but USA made T-40's, and the Fury & Foundation models keep cropping up.
Always worth a look. I was told that a T-40 recently went for less than £180. Apparently it was very well road worn
and battered but if it is a sound you are after and not looks, I think that was a bargain!

Big US Peavey fan here - top of my list at the moment are an 87 Foundation (Super Ferrite), and a 93 Foundation (VFL).

Two very different sounding but very usable basses.

The 87 has more depth and grunt, while the 93 has a more hi-fi sound - very defined and more edgy.

Do get some odd comments and looks from the "Bass Police", but trust me, these basses are one of the best kept secrets in the bass world.

I keep an eye out for any Peaveys up for sale and the most common ones are Furys,Foundations & T-40's.

Generally prices are £100 - £200 for Furys & Foundations,with Furys nearer the £100 end. T-40's hover around £450.

Dyna basses are about the £250 mark along with Patriots. T-20's I've saw for the same on the rare occassion they appear.

I've more Cirrus than Millenniums for sale in the UK but I think it's just there were more Cirrus sold.Cirrus £600 and upwards,last Millennium I remember went for £250 on eBay.
Had a dodgy preamp though,probably came from the Peavey UK closure sell off. :(

Rarely seen models like TL's & Sarzo's again see the £500 - £600 mark. I probably could have haggled the B-Quad down a bit but since I'd only saw 3 for sale in 3 year I just jumped
at the chance.

The problem with USA Peaveys as I see it was Hartley's idea of great instruments at affordable prices got skewed to Americans playing a Peavey because they couldn't afford Fender.
That stigma stuck, T-40's had far more features than late 70's Fenders but sell for less than MIJ Fenders from the 90's.

Great basses that always offered that wee bit more,sadly just never won the marketing war.

Do yourself a favour and get one. Before I buy them all :lol:

@JohnFitzgerald

That'll be young Jono Bolton's. Aye, I mind being in touch with him when he was putting it together.Two Foundations with Super Ferrites and two 90's Foundations with the
soapbar style pickups myself so i've no need for a fifth one. He should put 3 knobs on it so it's complete. Poor guy's had it listed for months.

@3below

No argument from me regarding the Far East Peaveys. Excellent basses,stock pickups output a wee bit low on my Milestone III but that's an easy fix to a lovely wee bass,got a
crazy low action on the Indonesian Millennium and you can get BXP Cirrus for £200.

Some of the Americans on TB give the BXP/EXP a hard time but they're made in Asia so that's expected :D

I'd have had it in a moment, but if I'm picking up a 4 string fretted bass, it's my very un Status like Status energy. Wooden, with a headstock and the most magnificently playable neck.

Ever since I saw the video of your man playing one on youtube, I need no convincing of how good they are.
I'd just never use it.

Back in March I was lucky enough to purchase a Peavey USA custom shop Cirrus. This bass is amazing in both construction, playability and tone.

I'm a huge Fender fan or I was till I bought this!! It just plays wonderfully well and sounds fantastic. Better than any US Fender including the custom shop!!

I just showed the missus that picture and told her my Peavey obsession isn't nearly as bad as it could be. She agrees... Wonder if she will mind me adding to my collection now ;)

Peavey built them from scratch and were the first company to use CNC back in 78. Stopped building basses in the States July 2010.

Composite Acoustics still are being built there though.

When they first moved to overseas it was Korea then Vietnam,Indonesia then China. The designers and engineers like Mike Power's moved too.
