I know HJ hates the concept of a relic'd re-fin on a vintage instrument but I rather like this! Not sure about the price given its a re-fin but its only slightly more than a Sadowsky for a genuine 60's P-bass

What I don't get with these relic re-fins is why not do the colour as it appear after 40+ years? You've gone to the effort of making it look worn and used, then why not go for that luvverly nicotine yellow that Oly whites go?

I do sort of like this one though.. but not for that price and the aging job is a bit much.

Well, Michael, I am going to take a guess and bet that you like this Bravewood :)

Yes I do... very much so!

I think that's the first one I've seen that hasn't been attacked by hungry gerbils...?

I noticed that he also does (or used to do) un-relic'd replicas so I read right through his website looking for details. That obviously included his FAQs.

I'm sure he's a brilliant luthier, and probably a lovely chap, but I'm now left - irredeemably - with an image of Victor Meldrew surrounded by unfinished work ...

Yeah, or to use a more direct phrase 'He should get out more'
Dont get me started on on the awful practice of relicing........

He does indeed - check out my lovely 1960 Jazz Replica. It's actually finished to a superb standard, and it has aged very nicely, similar to a Fender nitrocellulose guitar would.

Now that's nice, that's very nice.

If there was one of those in 3TS knocking around, I could probably be persuaded to reach for my overdraft ...

Did you get that off Chrisdabass a while back? Absolutely beautiful. I just got hold of a Bravewood fretless and am very impressed by how good it is.

Just out of interest, has anybody had any contact/dealings with Mr. 'sunburst_59' ?? With him being fairly local to me and having so many interesting basses (and even more guitars) up on ebay regularly, I have messaged him (thru ebay) on a couple of occasions. No reply ever received. He states that local collection/cash is OK ... but doesn't seem keen to have the basses seen/tried locally (?). Or maybe the ebay messaging system is just not working (or blocking?) again.........

Not me - although I wish I had the resources and time (!). I'm wondering if it's one of the local guitar shop owners judging by the amount of stuff, plus the prices. In the past 90-days (from Feedback) he's only bought a couple of guitars - (60's Strat and another totalling about £2k) ... but has sold 22 items @ £45,0000 (!!!!!). Only 5 were basses (most of the gear is electric or acoustic guitars - high-end stuff, but of no interest to me) - but all were vintage or high-end instruments, including a 70's Musicman and a couple of 70's Fenders.

Yes Nick, I did indeed! Had been lusting over it for a long time and when I saw it was up for sale I just had to take the plunge. Superb bass! Any pics of your fretless mate?

Danny
