British Bass makers

Prompted by Janspeelbass' thread on Wilkes guitars I got to thinking...........

This info is probably somewhere on the forum in one form or another but I was hoping to compile a list of British Bass builders past and present.

I once had a cunning plan to try and collect at least one nice example from each one but now wonder how many that would result in.

I would say the 'biggies' currently are Overwater, Status, Sei, Jaydee, GB and Wal (whatever is happening there) but there are probably loads more than I think.

My list of currently operating UK bass manufacturers and luthiers. By no means exhaustive. But with links.

+1

There's been a fantastic bass-making tradition in this country that's worked in tandem with some of the most innovative bass players of the last 30-40 years to help push bass guitar to the fore in popular music, and long may it continue!

It would be useful if everyone who's suggesting luthiers could post a link as well. While the presence of a web site is by no means a guarantee that the company/individual are still in business, the absence of one would suggest that they are not.
