That's not exactly the one I was talking about, but very similar indeed. What a beaut! Who owns this? :)
Looks like the new owner didn't get a mention in the for sale thread - maybe they will put their head above the parapet now

They're iconic looking instruments. I'd like to own one. I remember a solid red one with black hardware too - that looked great.

Peter - yours is iconic looking and iconic priced aswell (with good reason). I'm looking forward to playing it in October :)

EDIT: Your sig says you have two, one is a Chris Squier signature - what's the other?

The other is the one on eBay at the moment, a 4001 C64S, the much modified McCartney bass with a reversed headstock, smaller reshaped body, zero fret, dot markers and single mono jack. It's basically a new bass that I bought as an investment and now need to part with.

Unashamed plug:

I prefer the CS if only because of the colour which is amazing. It's only a colour I know but the whole basses oozes something because of it :)
Well there's this one - is that it?
That's the first time I ever saw a 4003 with a 3-ply pickguard. Looks very pretty!

And if that's not black enough for you, you could always look for a 4003 Shadow or a 4003 Black Trim in Jetglo:

Or even more black, the 4003S/SPC Blackstar that even had the fingerboard painted black:

Similarly, there also used to be a very white one, the 4003SPC Tuxedo.

I absolutely love the red/black ones, seriously wish I could've afforded this:

That's the second time I've seen a red/black go for well under usual market value for a Rick - wonder if it's to do with the Legend Of The Red Rickenbacker? :)

I missed out on that black Ric posted at the start of the thread. I thought I had the deal, but alas it went to another home. I very much want want like that as it's going to be the closest I will ever get to my long term desire - The Blackstar. And to think I missed one of those a number of years back too...
"Regrets.. I've had a few.." well, bloody loads actually!

That one used to be mine originally, I made the "rare" scratchplate and also the thin white piece of plastic to sit under the truss rod cover (swapped over from another 4003 I owned at the time) to echo the white line from the B/W/B scratchplate.

Thanks for posting that Clarky. I've been gassing for a black ric since playing KevB's at the Nottingham bash, and have just got the winning bid on this one! Just got to arrange the trip down to the South Coast to pick it up - bit of a trek, but can't wait!

Glad to be of service! Its an absolute beauty - and a really good price given the condition and scarcity value

hiho,to get a black one you have to return at least half of your original one to rickenbacker.
I would recomend a hipshot bridge, east to fit ,makes adjustments easy and looks good as well.
soundwise I think it is an improvement, makes palm muting comforable without those grub screws tearing your palms off.
