JapanAxe Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I was perusing the Join My Band ads for my area when I came across this gem: https://www.joinmyband.co.uk/classifieds/performers-needed-t1547705.html Reading between the lines (and perusing this person’s other posts), this is a singer and instrumentalist who has written and recorded a set of material and now wants people to perform it to their exact requirements, even down to using the person’s own equipment. Prospective performers are invited to be interviewed (not auditioned) and advised that the choreography may be a challenge, and that they will sign up as employees of a limited company, of which Companies House hold no record. The whole thing is a massive red flag! I’ll let you know how my interview goes… 2 Quote
Steve Browning Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Would be tempting to buy the company name and relevant domains a la Apprentice interview week. 2 Quote

Clarky Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Google AI implies Reclusiarch Records is just a single person who does electronic mixes (ie, "band" is a heck of a stretch): "Reclusiarch Records appears to be primarily associated with Reclusiarch Aurelius, a user on SoundCloud, a platform for sharing electronic music, particularly mixes and tracks with a retro or trance/techno vibe, referencing iconic mixes like Global Underground 006 and Global Underground 010. While not a formal record label, the name evokes the Reclusiarch (Chaplain) figure from Warhammer 40,000, suggesting a thematic link to solitude, lore, and perhaps dark, immersive electronic sounds. Key Aspects: SoundCloud Presence: Reclusiarch Aurelius is the main entity, known for uploading mixes and remixes. Genre/Style: The content leans towards electronic, trance, and techno, with specific references to classic mixes. Thematic Naming: "Reclusiarch" draws from the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40k, implying deep, perhaps solitary or intense musical exploration. In essence, think of it as a personal music curation identity rather than a commercial label, focused on deep cuts and nostalgic electronic sounds." Quote

Lozz196 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago “The main challenge will be learning choreography.” I’d say a real challenge for the drummer. 1 Quote
BigRedX Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago To the OP. Are you interested in joining this band? If not why does it even matter? Quote

Reclusiarch Aurelius on SoundCloud seems to be based in Krasnodar in Russia though, not Gloucestershire! 4 minutes ago, BigRedX said: To the OP. Are you interested in joining this band? If not why does it even matter? No, I am not interested in joining this band, I was scrolling through JMB looking for dep opportunities (I am such a tart). Consequently it doesn’t matter directly to me, but there is a BC tradition of highlighting (for entertainment purposes) delusional or wildly unrealistic band ads. It will matter to someone though, when they sign up to goodness-knows-what in the hope of a shortcut to fame and fortune. I do hope the site rules allow us to discuss things that don’t even matter, otherwise pages of discussion on fret position markers would have to be deleted. 2 Quote

Because it's funny , because it's friday and because the basschat community is always looking out for other bass players who might fall for some kind of scam .. This smells a tad off ... and sadly It won't be the first one in the industry nor the last , To me it sounds like this person needs a performing musician but doenst want an equal member of a group , totally fine ... but perhaps doesn't want to pay directly them for that time instead ... with equity in a company ....the corpo equivilant of exposure ;-). " Who knows what " crazy terms could be including in contracts as part of "Reclusiarch Records Ltd co" . .... " ... I for one am not interested in paying imperial Tithe ... a heretic like me .... they'd have get the "HEAVY" flamer out .. ( Warhammer joke) Edited 1 hour ago by synthaside 1 Quote

BigRedX Posted 52 minutes ago Posted 52 minutes ago But the Ad isn't aimed at the typical middle-aged, sartorially challenged Basschat member, so who are we to mock? If I was in my early 20s and looking to start a band from scratch I might be wording something very similar to weed out the old-farts and time-wasters. Quote

If I was in my early 20s and looking to start a band from scratch I might be wording something very similar to weed out the old-farts and time-wasters. Yep, this. I was going to post that it's just the way things are done these days, but then I reflected on an 'audition' for a 'band' in 1983 I which while I wasn't asked to play bass, I was asked about my willingness to dress a certain way - and if I told you the dress code in question you probably wouldn't believe me - and was then required to sit while the rest of the 'band' - which it transpired was just one person, the singer/songwriter/guitarist - played through his repertoire in the hotel room (venue also not a good sign). It was a uniquely uncomfortable experience. BTW the guy had a recording contract and I'd been sent to the audition by a management company, so this was relatively high level in theory. But what was clear from the off was that the singer was desperately trying to emulate the style and appearance of a very famous singer at the time and despite being pretty talented guitarist and vocalist was nowhere hear, had a quite evident narcissistic streak, and had no idea how to relate to people, for example, he completely avoided eye contact in conversation but made way too much eye contact while performing. I went back to the management company and before I could indicate that it probably wasn't for me I was told that my having expressed some surprise at - and voicing what I felt was an amusing response to - the dress code, meant that I wasn't the bassist for this band either. And he went on to be incredibly unfamous as far as a I can tell Quote
