Any ideas on battery combos for electric and acoustic bass guitar and chin size (not bass) fiddle? I have a little 4 x 4" Roland Micro Bass Cube RX combo, and I'm looking for something that can run on batteries, but with a bit higher output, fairly tough and not too heavy. Bass and keyboard amps seem to work for (amplified acoustic) fiddle and mandolin etc, as they often have flattish response curves, unlike specialist guitar amps. This is for accompanying Goth morris dance outings (that's English folky). It doesn't need to be rock band loud or have whole day endurance. The problems seems to be  - AER is great but expensive, the jury seems to be out on Roland Cube EX speaker reliability for even 4 string bass frequencies (and they're not cheap in UK, even used). Less expensive amps often seem to have sideboard style polished wood finishes unsuited to anything but your front room. Does anyone have experience of the current little Roland 10 watt Street/Bass battery combos - are they noticeably louder than the Bass Cube RX I have already, and how are they with bass?

Thanks, Max

They also make 4 battery powered combos, the one for acoustic instruments with 80 Watts might be the best suited.

I own the Joyo DC-15B (so for bass, but with some electric guitar settings) and everybody trying it with a bass or a guitar is always impressed.

Here they are:

Joyo make a 30 watt bass amp that can be powered from a power bank.  I couldn't tell you how good they are for your requirements though!

Joyo bass amp.

I don't think it would be loud enough. I have one, it's a great little thing for playing at home, but not really loud enough to make much impression. What will you be competing against? Melodeon, fiddle, guitar?

Bose S1, I've used one for electric bass in all kinds of unplugged situations and it works very well... nice flat response, has enough volume to cope with most acoustic type situations, good battery life and only weighs 7kg... drawback its not cheap!

As someone who plays the fiddle (it was my first instrument, prior to the bass), I doubt you'll find a compact, portable amp that will do both equally well that doesn't cost money. You're asking for something that will do the job at both extremes and for it to be battery powered. A big ask and I doubt such a thing exists. Perhaps a powered PA speaker might work, but battery powered? I doubt it. If you get a power bank, you can run a regular amp or PA speaker off it, which will widen your choice. Either way, I don't think you'll find a quality solution that's cheap.

I was looking for something like this.  I couldn't find anything so went for a Fender Rumble and a portable power system. It works much better than a battery powered combo. I use it with the 25w Rumble for both electric and double bass.  The combo power output with determine how long the power lasts. It's longer than you think.
