miles'tone Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 (edited) I've really got into the U-Bass world this year, I now own a fretted and fretless. I personally would like to see a Ubass specific place to go in our gear section, like we have for double basses etc, as any U-Bass threads do get lost in the usual traffic stream. There's many different ukulele basses coming onto the market now and also string choices, designs and their development are getting more comprehensive month by month it seems. I use my bass ukes more than my bass guitars and upright at present simply because I have them always at hand. In the car, in work... they are so good for on the fly ideas and practise. Every bass home should have one! Maybe there's enough of us now to warrant the creation of a U-bass sub section (I know that there's at least a few of us lurking in our diminutive closets 😄). Just a thought for the Basschat massive (especially the mods 😘) @ped @Kiwi @Woodinblack Thanks, Miles Edited December 2, 2025 by miles'tone 4 Quote
FiFoFum Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 Count me in, Miles. My Batking f-hole fretless is my only bass that fits in an airplane's overhead bin...and its sound is massive. I'm still experimenting with getting it to sound a tad more like an upright. All in all, it's a different beast that rewards the time taken to fine-tune one's playing techniques. So much more to learn -- which suits me just fine. 1 Quote
Bleat Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 The inclusion of an ABG section or a mixed Uke/ ABG would be nice. I'm currently switcing over to an acoustic setup and apart from some good suggestions and info on a recent post I made to point me in the right direction, there seems to be a general lack of useful information around the internet. 1 Quote

That's a good point Bleat and a great idea! Especially seeing as we also have the Gold Tone Micro Bass (when I'm richer 🤞...) which lands between the two. As an aside, feel free to hit me up on any ABG questions you may have. I've owned and gigged quite a few over the years and may have some useful insights on the matter. Always happy to help. Cheers 👍 1 Quote
Beedster Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 Must admit Uke idea alone didn’t grab me but Uke/ABG combined would be good I think, it might not only allow those already playing them a space, but encourage others to give them a go 👍 3 Quote

I have my bass and an acoustic preamp DI box sorted. I'm sure I'll have more stuff to wonder about and look into in due course though! 1 Quote

I wouldn't have even looked if I was sticking firmly to playing electric bass. It may be something I will invest in at a future time. It would be good to have a resource of info here though. 1 Quote
Happy Jack Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 But it would need to be very small. 1 Quote
bass_dinger Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 The Uke bass is a very different instrument to other basses. It would be good to have a separate subsection for it. 1 Quote
zonular Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 Im in, got a Kala scout for a pub folk gig. Love the easy amount of stuff to carry 1 Quote
Norris Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 Funnily enough I was looking at the Kala 5-string the other night and wondered what they were like... Maybe an alt-bass forum? Anything not a "normal" bass guitar or double bass/EUB 1 Quote
snorkie635 Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 If it comes to pass, I'd suggest we name the thread in memory of @SamIAm who loved her uke-bass. 1 Quote

Steve C77 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago I also like the idea. I am a Ukulele player, who recently got a Flight short scale bass to play along with our Ukulele club(s). im finding it difficult to work out volume levels / comparison of 15-20w battery amps. Such as Joyo DC-15B and Scuru S8B and Blackstar Fly 3 - the later I already own. 2 Quote

The combo of the tiny uke plus di the best on a bus 🤣 Quote
songofthewind Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Just saw this. Count me in. I was given a Kala bamboo U-bass. I was very surprised how good it sounds. Quote
zonular Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Hey guys Need a little help, I've got a Kala scout with thunderblack strings. I had fairly even volume across the strings but detuned / retuned recently and the low e is noticeable lower in volume? Any fixes? I'm afraid to restring in case I cause more issues. I've got a set of thunderblacks and a set of Kala flatwounds to go on Quote
