It got a bit nasty last time they were on here so can see why the OP is so hesitant to name.

I imagine he'll keep pretty quiet this time 👍

I don’t know what that is, but I know not to google something with that combination of words in it.

Certainly not from a work device 👍

No idea what a 'chuckle' is, but imagine it involves handcuffs?

It's one half of a pair of northerners carrying a ladder.

In extremis, obviously, but for most purposes it’s not relevant.

This was a contextual point. I’m talking a few mm here (from the pictures) but not the sizeable deviation you’d get from a severely misaligned pickup or a string bend, for example.

Pedantry appreciated but I’d say the pickups here were the least of the owner’s worries.

I guess it depends if the pickups are actually routed in the right position? (I've not studied the images), if not then it's a fair problem. Maybe if the bridge is in the wrong position, a much easier fix if the body is being refinished, rather than just getting a refund.

The relationship of the strings to the poles on the pickups is utterly irrelevant to the sound.

Your original statement you made that I responded to wasn't clear that you were talking specifically about the issue with this bass, hence my wordy reply. All good, thank you for clarifying, no drama :)

On the subject of 'sizeable deviation', well, several millimetres can make a difference, but hell, there's plenty who will tell you it doesn't matter what a bass is made of, or can't hear if their tweeter is working or not, so, in context, nah, nothing I've said will make an iota of difference, leave 'em where they are 🤣 #Joshin ☺️

It’s all good. We’re in a world where someone will refuse to buy a bass because the string spacing is 1mm out, so precision definitely matters.

I’ve owned lots and lots of vintage basses and the strings would rarely bisect the poles perfectly yet people now pay £20,000 for the same basses.

Maybe the misalignment is where the magic is!

The longer I play bass the less worried I am about all this stuff. I played the Royal Albert Hall once with a £350 jazz bass and that was fine.

Oh blimey, there's a name I haven't seen for a while. Can we get a full house if John Hall wades in too?

Crikey that was probably an unlucky typo! Meant to say 'Basschatted', the past tense of the verb 'to Basschat', which describes the processes whereby a thread on a serious topic descends into a form of bass-related word-association/projective test/silliness often involving images from 1970s culture (Monty Python, Leonard Rossiter, Kenneth Williams, Leslie Phillips) or that bass builder from Surrey and which deviates significantly from that point forwards until someone replies to the original post and stops the silliness......

@Dood I think you may have thought I was obliquely referring to another builder, which I wasn't :)

If you want precision, buy a Fender...

The though of giving an honourable mention to our esteemed/erstwhile group member had occurred to me...

I thought that was a sideswipe at the sheeple! 🙂

Im not sure if thats correct tbh. Asking for other peoples input and opinions is always going to be tricky if you won't give all the info ( builders name ) and then get offended at the end. Ive only ever found that 99% of the people on here are genuine and are willing to help anyone sort out a situation. Theres the odd one of course... Hopefully he gets the bass he wants and originally ordered.

Yeah, hope the bass ends up great. There's a big difference between wanting to name the builder (I'm gagging to know!) and telling the OP he "can’t be bothered to stand up for himself". I get that it was likely meant as tough love, but upholding a level of respect on here is a good thing.

Unfortunately, from the various angles in all 3 photos, it consistently looks like the bridge is a tad too far to the right of the neck, you can see it from how the E string doesn't align with the pickup and the general look of the strings across the neck, but probably most obvious when looking at the truss cover.

It's an awful lot of work that is going to be needed to get all of this right, before he lifts a finger I would ask for a full schedule of the works he is doing, if you're insistent on going through with the repairs and not demanding a refund/heavy discount.

I'm not sure. To me it just looks like the neck is *slightly* misaligned, the sort of thing you fix by unscrewing the neck screws a bit, pushing the neck in the right direction and tighten screws again. The bass had issues, but this is getting overly picky now, I think.
