I saw the GG thing last night, I was surprised that in the 1999 trial they threw out the case of the 8 year old as it was too old, and that when it did get in the paper, the fact he had sex with a 14 year old when he was 49 was there as a sideline to the shocking reveal that he was actually bald.

I currently work in safeguarding myself and also do work for Social Services. You can do anything you want if you have money. Unfortunately this includes abusing children. Jackson was obviously a gay man who had an obsession with young boys. I know people dont want to believe it and i still love Off the wall and Thriller but after looking deeply into the evidence presented in the case i was pretty much convinced. The frightening thing is Pederastry has been going on since the dawn of humanity and people just being disgusted, outraged or trying to set fire to these people and chase them with vigilanties (which hinders prosecution cases more than helps)will just drive them more underground. I myself am starting to think that unfortunately and abhorrent as it is that people might be born like this.As i say shocking but working in the job i do people on the outside just do not realise how prevelant in society it is.

Having worked with victims of abuse for over a quarter of a century I am 100% sure there is something wrong with how the abusers brains are wired. It’s not a change, a choice etc etc. No one wakes up and decides to be a child abuser instead of a ‘normal person’. In the same way that people are heterosexual , homosexual, bi, etc etc, some people are peadophiles. I think the various professionals have been wary of admitting this because they fear it will weaken prosecution cases but we need to shift our thinking to safeguard kids better. These people are sick in the head and just locking them up isn’t going to change that and they end up far more dangerous when they get back out as they know more tricks. We need to invest in better ways of treating this problem and accept that if we can’t then whole life tariffs for seemingly minor offences are the only safe option. The victims suffer a life sentence after all.

IIRC the victim would have been given a large payout from the newspaper for a conviction. I think this was also a reason the judge cited for throwing the case out.

Either way he's a disgrace and despicable

No that was the 14 year old who had already sold her story to the paper, and a large part of why her story wasn't believed. The 8 year old had happened in 1975, and it was deemed to old to deal with as it had happened  14 years ago and it hadn't come forward before (even though it had).

Leaving aside the fact that a man being attracted to men and one being attracted to boys is not the same, there's no solid evidence that Jackson was attracted to men so conflating homosexuality and paedophilia feeds very much into that trope.

I dont think anyone is insinuating that gay people are more likely to be paedophiles or Hebophiles. Tbh i think you are being a bit hysterical about this.Studies conducted tend to indicate that most paedophiles or Hebophiles are wired in a regressive state amongst other complex theories.

Ah, the tired trope of gay = paedophile. I haven't seen any evidence that Jackson was gay but plenty that suggests he was a paedophile.

Jackson's problematic abuse was of boys. Gadd's abuse was of girls. So Jackson was a homosexual paedophile, Gadd was a heterosexual paedophile.

Am I reading some confusion here?  The Glitter Band were not just Gary Glitter's band.  They had hits in their own right, gigged on their own, were a fantastic bunch of guys and we had some bloody great times on the road when I was on the same tours with them in the mid 80s.  I also did a number of gigs at that time with Gary on the bill.  He was definitely strange, kept himself to himself, had his own dressing rooms, and it was obvious to people around him, even if they didn't know the extent of his paedophile proclivities.  I wouldn't have wanted anything to do with him... thankfully I didn't have to.

Yes the Glitter Band had their own hits but when I've seen them, post Gadds peodo activities coming to light, they've done his hits as well, much to the crowds delight

A friend of mine has a theory about people in a power position who become abusers.

Imagine you are in GG's position back in the 70s - loved by all, a musical icon.

You can sleep with anybody you want without criticism or fear of arrest. We've seen this all too often.

Initially it's probably just normal sex with consenting adults, as time goes on younger and younger partners then threesomes, then "swapsies", before you know it, orgies.

These eventually become staid and boring - "already done that.." - and so those in the power position find more and more "thrilling" - i.e perverse, sexual practices.

With no boundaries we see the old story of absolute power corrupting absolutely.

I suspect that the cases we've seen are just the tip of the iceberg and as time goes on we'll have more and more cases of Rock Star abuse cases coming into the public eye.

Certainly there is a lot more, a lot we already know about that are the rock stars of the day who had admitted to somethings but that was somehow acceptable back then. I mean if GG hadn't taken his PC to pc world with tons of child porn on it, why would anything have come out? That was all he was done for originally.

I think this is the crux of it, Gadd was caught because he was careless. How many more are out there who know more about what precautions they need to take to stay hidden and thus who may never be caught?

There are so many out there. And not always who you think

Ive had the misfortune to have gigged with 1 who was convicted. Another that committed suicide when found out and another who is under investigation.

I had an older neighbour too, he was a photographer and was about to go to court but he then committed suicide too. My wife had his card marked from day one.
