This bass has been setup with a really low action and plays exquisitely. For a 35-year-old bass, the condition is amazing. The paintwork is near perfect and there are no dings or scratches to speak of. The only two things to point out is a bit of buckle rash on the back of the bridge and a bit of dark red blush on the bottom edge of the body near the input jack. I only just noticed it when taking the photos so it really isn’t obvious at all (I've tried to show the blemish in a couple of photos). Due to the great condition, I am asking £2,950 GBP. These basses are $5,000 new and dont have the Kudos of being made by Phil Kubicki and his small team in Santa Barbara. I am selling because I have a couple of Dingwall basses which I now play and I dont like moving between fanned frets and regular. My top class luthier has ensured the action is nice and low, checked the electronics are serviced and a new jack barrel has been installed. Its 100% gig ready. Its a reluctant sale but I gig infrequently these days and it would be sad for a bass like this to sit in its case year after year. I am located in the UK (North West England - so Preston/Lancaster/Manchester/Liverpool) and ideally I'd prefer collection in person. However, if the buyer wants to go to to the trouble to arrange all the postage so someone just collects from my door - at their cost, I will ensure its packaged securely. If I remember correctly, these would have been made by Philip Kubicki in his Santa Barbara workshop but we're marketed / sold by Fender, prior to the FCS licensing agreement. CarlsNotHere Posted November 13, 2023 Share Posted November 13, 2023 You're killing me, I had another red one, also an '88 build, don't remember the month or production number but clearly Phil had a chock load of orders for red Ex-Factors that year. These were indeed Phil's own handy work, the FCS builds were designated with the CS logo pressed into the back of the "headstock" such as it was. The Fender builds tended to get looked at as lower end for some reason, from Phil's own words the only real difference was the slightly less complicated preamp/control set used on the Fender builds, they had the same laminate neck right down to the filled wooden dowel hole near the date stamp but with the CS label under the production #. Phil was a genius, most comfortable bass I ever owned, and I've owned way too many. Can't believe I traded it, got an early production Yamaha Japan R&D shop TRB4p, a Hartke 410 and some cash for it back around 1990 😉 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
