Dean Deamonator

Recommended Posts

Someone could absolutely not make their mind up when designing that thing.

I ordered one for a customer once…I didn’t “get it” then, still don’t now.

Peavey did something called a Void or something around the same time.

Also a pig.

Got that wonky Musicvox thing going on with the body shape, although I don't think it's trying to be deliberately wacky or kitschy. Hard to tell, though.

And I have an unreasoning loathing for Dean's idiotic 'tiny Flying V' headstock. Always makes me think of this w@nker's bass.

(Just re-read this before posting and I'm actually not in anything like as bad a mood as it sounds!)

As a (mainly) P bass guy, that's not my thing at all, but the body shape is rather pleasing IMO. The headstock is a health and safety nightmare, but I'd imagine the sort of hardrockin' bassperson who ends up with this instrument, will care not one jot for risk assessments. I've played a few Dean basses and I briefly owned a Jeff Berlin model- all nice instruments to play. It looks like a tidy instrument and at £130, I'd say that was good value for money. Someone's gonna love that.

It's the straplocks that offend me the most about this bass...

The demonator shape was a signature model for David Vincent from Morbid Angel.

The MM series (of which this is one) were cheaper versions of the original.

the mm 1 pickup model retailed around £200, and the 2 pup active version around £300.

When I endorsed Dean I had a single pup version and the Thru neck version.

The shape -to me - was thunderbird meets moosrite, and I still love my neck thru.

£130 is about all they go for these days, certainly in this configuration

Astonishingly, that red one was called the Tragic.

The Tragic.
