Gust0o Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Morning all, long time no speak I was pulling some items out of storage, and fancied a flutter on some of the old gang - but I'm locked out! I don't recall locking anything, but you never know. No brand on the case, alas (it'll be on the inside, I'll bet - probably with the spare keys!), lock has been resistant to jiggling and hair pins thus far. Anyone recognise the lock? Any idea where spare keys might be obtained from? Anyone have any spares? Any other options to open without chopping it? Thank you! Quote
Velarian Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Could it be unlocked but just that the sliding bit is stiff or seized? 1 Quote
lemmywinks Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 I would keep trying with hair pins, most guitar case locks are shockingly easy to get into. Quote
Skybone Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 If you have any other keys for other cases, you could try them. Quote

three Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Any high street locksmith would get into this in seconds and probably for pennies. I lost a flight case key years ago (the lock was a bit more sophisticated than the Fender-type case locks) - the local locksmith got into the case very easily and produced a new bespoke/hand-made key for about a fiver. 2 Quote
Downunderwonder Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Reminds me of an old Aussie rock band, Cold Chisel. 1 Quote
SimonJeffreson Posted May 28 Posted May 28 I see it's been a while since you posted, but I just wanted to ask if anyone's had luck getting a replacement key by matching the lock code. I’ve heard that sometimes those small numbers near the lock can help source a spare. Also wondering—has anyone tried a locksmith for one of these yet, and was it worth it compared to the value of the case? Quote
Hiddynna Posted May 28 Posted May 28 (edited) I ran into the same issue a while back and ended up getting some help from thelockdoc.ca. They were quick and didn’t damage the case, which was what I worried about most. They’ve dealt with loads of instrument cases before, so they knew exactly what to do. Edited May 30 by Hiddynna Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted May 29 Posted May 29 I'm surprised the case was locked. Does anyone actually lock their cases? My cases either have the key still taped to the underside of the flap covering the accessory compartment or the key is lost. I have never locked a case. There's no point — If someone has the opportunity and wants to steal the bass/guitar they'll just walk off with the case. Quote
Hiddynna Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago I’ve used a small screwdriver or paperclip to pop similar latches before, just gently wiggling till it clicks open. Worst case, bolt cutters on the latch if it’s totally stuck. Quote
