The small option

I use a LMII head and a Schroeder 1212r cab. Can carry the head in a bag and my bass and cab in either hand!

It's loud enough for every gig i've done with it including some big halls and i prefer it to a combo

EDIT: This cab looks like a very good option if you're in the market

I do use the CMD 102P and it kicks out a lot of noise, and cuts through the mix nicely with the awesome mids it delivers. Very versatile, certainly worth giving it a try! Incredibly loud for a 300W combo aswell, and that's before putting it with an extension cab.

I haven't tried the Genz Benz stuff, though it looks amazing!

EBS does sound great, and I dig their sound.

Markbass have just released a new Little Mark III that has tube and a solid state preamps with the great feature of a Blend control! Not tried it or heard it, but I'm sure it'll be killer. I'm yet to hear any of their tube rigs, let me know how you get on!

I've got the 102p also & have been tempted countless times to add an extension cab (it's gas from being on here!), but I haven't a need for one really & I do all sorts of sizes of gigs upto @ 300 folk often without me going thru the PA.
I play in a pretty loud rock band with 2 guits & have no probs being heard when we're at full pelt (sometimes I'm asked to turn down).
I use the moog filter to get some very bass heavy sub sounds & the 102p copes with it very nicely, shaking glass in doors etc.

Looks good to me. I wish I was in the market, as such, right now. Money's a little tight. Although I'd like to get one, because I want something a little more portable than what I've already got.

Does anyone ever have problems playing with our loud cousins the drummers?

I mainly use Euphonic Audio. 500 head with one or two 1x10s, or a 1x12 if I want a "deeper" sound. If I'm feeling lazy or its a tiny gig/difficult parking and loading then its a GK MB150 combo.

If there is a decent PA I'll always DI so I don't have to use the amp beyond a stage monitor.

It all depends on circumstances - the small modern stuff is fantastic for my "stealth" work, where weight and size vs sound quality is always a consideration. If was touring, or playing louder music then my old big heavy SWR set up would nearly always go instead.
....A quick question. What kinds of small amps do people use? Like, for example, the Mark Bass CMD 102P.....It gets kind of irritating carrying 'round a 4x10!
Sounds like you're carrying the wrong kind of 4x10. My Epifani 410 weighs less than 2 112 cabs and, in my opinion, sounds better.

Thats my set up as well. In fact I have two rigs. One is my LMII + 1210R 4ohms and the other is a SA450 + 1212L 4ohms, so both loud 500watt rigs.
My favourite is the 1212L rig as its lighter than the 1210R although both are the same size and i can still carry all my gear in to the venue in one trip

With only a vocal PA my rig has to get me out in to the room and so far i have no complaints.
We do some big rooms at Holiday camps, Marquees and even Duxford Air museum (the large dome) to almost 500 people.

While i do have problems with the drummer i can get louder than him so volume isn't the problem (dont get me started ;-)

:)

That IS the cab I'm carrying around! It's very light, and it's got a great sound, but it's still difficult getting it out of my basement every time I need to use it. I'ts more the size that's the problem.
