Source Audio C4 Synth Pedal

Yup seems to be in the Akai Deep Impact territory on ancient pedal pricing.

Funnily the "big 3" bass synth pedals when the K5 came out (2005?) were the Akai DI, the K5 and the EHX BMS.

Chip tech has moved on since then and the current top 3 (in my books anyway) knock this older stuff out the park. Bit like comparing a Sinclair C5 with a Tesla.

@Quatschmacher is it possible to mirror the effect from 3.33 on the FI? Even if we'd have to wait for v.3... Don't make me have to buy a C4 too! ;)

I reckon it’s doable. It sounds like one of the dual-filter models. This is in the ballpark:

Spent some more time with the C4 today. I am liking it a lot. Tried some of your patches as well @Quatschmacher, some are truly gems. Been mainly focussing on splitting some of the key sounds I use between the FI and the C4.

With upcoming Faithless tribute gigs booked I reckon I will be getting plenty use out of both :)

Out of interest, which ones did you like?

I’m hoping to get some more done once I finish the FI manual.

Now that sounds like a great gig, I'm very jealous! What's the name of the band, I'll definitely be there if you're gigging in London?

Afraid you will have to come to Holland mate, we have currently 2 dates confirmed for February in the Hip in Deventer and Roepaen in Ottersum. I am part of a tribute collective called Grunge Garden Presents, and we do different acts under that name (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Oasis and now “newly added” Faithless).

Happy to share more details, be a good weekend over????

Does anyone who has one already know if that sound at 3.33 is one of the inbuilt presets? If so would someone be able to post a screenshot of the editor settings for that effect please? I'd love to see if it can be replicatated on the FI (or more accurately if Quatschmacher will take the hint and replicate it as I'm completely useless at this sort of thing! 😉) and I guess seeing the settings would be a useful starting point? Thanks in advance...!

Parallel loops - does the C4 provide for this?

Guys - it's not clear to me from from the C4 manual whether the C4 provides for parallel looping with other pedals?

I have the AS and it seems to me that the AS manual is pretty clear on this - it can do a series loop but not a parallel loop. The two inputs / outputs do allow for stereo in / out and can also act as a splitter for a mono input. But the loop function on the AS (from the manual) is a much less useful series loop and when the AS is bypassed, the external effect will be out of the circuit and inaccessible.

Just wondering whether the C4 is the same as the AS or provides for additional parallel looping?

The AS has internal mixing and switching options that we hide from you and present them as a high level list of routing options. It makes sense in a distortion box. In the C4 you get access to all the input and output routings and when used with the voices, you can create a huge list of routing options for yourself. I would suggest studying the Desktop Editor. It's very flexible and powerful.

Well that does sounds good, but actually doesn't leave me any the wiser as someone who doesn't have a C4.

You could follow his advice and read the manual and open the editor (you don’t need to own a C4 to do that). It’s what the rest of us are having to do to figure this stuff out. Roger didn’t design the pedal so still has to defer to Bob for answers.
