After a period of flux, the board settled into form again … some refinements and focus.

First blood for this set up in studio last week, ‘ampless’ and full wet

Hmmm …

That board has an aesthetically pleasing look. Nicely laid out. How do you find the MXR compressor? I'm thinking about getting a dedicated one (I'm not finding the ones on multi-pedal usable).

If you like transparent compression, the MXR is advisable, sure.

I mean ‘transparent’ in that it doesn’t colour your tone in a significant way, like some compressors do. It does its fundamental job, really well, while leaving your tone largely alone.

Some folks want a compressor to ‘thicken’ their tone, add ‘punch’ etc … and If that’s what you want from a compressor then the MXR isn’t for you. It contributes to the above, obviously, though its true quality is its ‘cleanliness’.

Besides that, the functionality is on point. Highly controllable, intuitive, and the metering is invaluable. With such a seemingly transparent compressor, I find the metering to be extremely useful in dialling the thing accurately.

I’ve had ‘tone magic’ compressors in the past, but I like to find my tone magic in other ways … let a compressor be just that. This one is an unexciting and utilitarian pedal that quietly and confidently does something super useful, really well.

I've done more work on the pedalboard - the HX stomp is in, the FIv1 has a new output pot (better job than last time too), and it's in a compact case. MIDI is working nicely via Thru (FCB1010 for control there), and now I'm building daughterboards (the HX loop is terminated to 2 outputs on the back of the board).

Recent discussion on Boss Slicer SL2 pedal - this thing is so much fun, and if you put a freeze in front of it, you can have a lot of fun. Ditto x2 after it to give me looper capability as well. Fun fun fun!

Now working on a filter daughterboard. Already have a Soundblox Bass filter, original Q-tron and SZ funk face to go on there, and looking to source a Digitech bass synth wah.

Great way to give pedals time off the shelf and instant availability.
