Does this Fender look dodgy to you?

Recommended Posts

It's a 76 serial number. Logo looks wrong to me. Body loos like fifties two tone sunburst. Not sure what it's supposed to be. The description is about as vague as it can get. Personally wouldn't bid without seeing it in the flesh and more research.

I'd say it's legit with crap photos.

My 77 had some sun bleaching on the red section of the burst.

Ask yourself, if you were after faking a bass to make a buck would you do a 70's lefty P bass? Doubt it.

The machine heads look a bit more reissue.

As with anything though, see if you can get it in your hands.

And the burst transition 'crescent' on the rear is bang on too.

A lot of effort and detail. Fakes usually miss tricks like this. The case isn't right, can tell you that.

My mate had a lefty P and strat with the fender logo in that position too.

Taking the dodgy photography into account, all looks good to me - the bass shares similar attributes as my '76 & '78 Fenders. Think it's a '78.

Thanks for the feedback on this. The maple neck looks too new to me to be '70's, hence my suspicion it may be an assembly job.

Why not ask him for the dates on the stamps on the neck and body. Any assembly would be doing well to get both to be nearly the same. I guess the ultimate bottom line is what price it goes to.

I am not sure about the neck, my 79 Precision definitely has more of a shine to the headstock, this one looks like it is almost a satin finish, could be down to crap images but the neck with the question over the burst finish as well would make me want to have a lot closer look before I would consider bidding for it

A guy I work with went and viewed it and he is certain it is genuine. He did say that the photos are very misleading and that in the flesh so to speak, the true nature of the bass can be seen.

just a few hours left, is someone going to get a bargain if it is genuine?

Said bloke I work with has his bid in - I reckon a bargain will be gotten.

[/quote]I'd be tempted if it was a black one, got a soft spot for maple fingerboards, don't like sunburst finish though
