I like them, but circumstances have always forced me to move them on in the past. I’ve had a bunch of regrets in terms of selling the ones I really loved…. a Kinal MK5, Overwater Progress 5, ‘78 P bass etc…. But this one is different. A recent gift from my ailing mum… AND it’s bloody perfect in all respects. The rest are replaceable but there's a few that no-one else would want! Tbh I only really need two 5-strings (fretted and fretless) but I'm sentimental about the three above. I saw a couple on the wall at a now defunct bass specialist store around 2011 (Bass Gear in Twyford - I think @molanmay have had something to do with the place?), played one, loved it but couldn't afford the £1000+ price tag on it. Moved on and forgot about it. And then walked into my local guitar store a few years ago to buy some picks and saw one hanging on the bass wall (amongst the usual stock of a couple of Fenders and Ibanez basses). It was used, mint condition and very keenly priced as they didn't know too much about them. I couldn't believe it. 30 seconds later it was coming home with me..... [/quote] Having spent a bit of time with both one after the other I'd say that the RD feels slightly chunkier in profile than the Ripper but that could easily be 70s manufacturing "tolerances". Nut width the same. The main difference you'll find with an RD is the whole neck is moved about half an inch along because of the relative positions of the bridge to the body end. So it feels like a bit more of a stretch when you've got the basses on the strap. The RD can also feel like you're carrying two Rippers at once. We more or less agreed to take every one that Joe could get to us but I don’t think we even made it into double figures. Had an RD as well…wish I still had it. I think the neck did have a chunkier feel than a Ripper. Tone was so much better. I reckon the first batch was 4 and then we received another 4 about 18 months later.
