Stage Legend Guitar Stand.

Can't tell without seeing one for real, as they don't look that robust from the pictures. These ones http://www.amazon.co.uk/HERCULES-STANDS-ELECTRIC-Guitars-accessories/dp/B000NHB9BE/ref=sr_1_4?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1452844610&sr=1-4&keywords=hercules+guitar+stand are pretty solid and fold up to very little.

IIRC, Number6 bought one and found it flimsy and not fit for purpose. I've had a Hercules Mini, but the bass is held at too shallow an angle and thus takes up too much stage room, which defeats the object of a small-footprint stand. I'd buy a bog-standard generic folding A-frame type stand. Not too much of a pain to carry but will hold your bass securely and is relatively compact. Can be got for less than a tenner.

Problem is, you can't beat physics. A small stand is likely to be less secure than a larger one.

I was originally looking at the Hercules Mini.
I have 2 Hercules on stage at all times. They're built well and are really secure.

My Gibson Thunderbird and some of my other basses wouldn't even fit in the stage legend. That stand looks like it would be cool at home. It certainly doesn't look like it would offer much security at bar or pub gigs where other forces will come into play. Like blind drunk punters.

I use a hercules, yes it does lean back a fair but my radical and inventive solution to that is to ... turn it sideways if I'm pushed for space.

That is so weird, I'm positive I posted a link to Amazon for the Hercules Mini!! In fact if you look at post #3 Hiram seems to know what I was talking about, so no idea how that link got there. Ah, technology in the hands of a Luddite, got to love it

my mate uses the stage legend one for his acoustic guitar and we've never had a problem

A small lightweight instrument that on the stand presents a low centre of gravity. The symmetrical body coupled with a deeper body depth means that it will sit securely on the stand and not lean back. Probably one of the few instruments that can safely use this type of stand in the gig situation.

Anyone use one ?

They look great, and get some really good reviews.

I'm looking for a lightweight collapsible stand for gigs.
Only good for symetrical base bass, any offset & it's NFG, so OK for P or Ray certainly not for Jazz or T'bird

I use a couple of the Fender folding which are neat but same as above; https://www.dropbox.com/s/qg0g1a8sava7skl/fender-2.jpg?dl=0

Even weirder....when I clicked your link, it took me to the stand you mentioned!
You don't know how pleased I am to see you confirm that! Thought I was being even less competent than I thought!

These are basically ideal for P shape bodies at home or as a stage stand. Mine has done okay but they are no good at all if the shape of the bass is in anyway not symetrical.

Any recommendations for a decent, cheapish, stand for a jazz bass?

I've had a couple of near misses recently, left the bass propped up against the side of the sofa, only to hear the thud of the headstock hitting the wall a couple of minutes later.

I use one of these - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0002BG2DQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

They're very well made, and will suit and shape guitar or bass.

I understand the OP's need to de-bulk his gigging setup as much as possible to take on public transport. Unless I am also singing (in which case I need another box of bits and a mic stand), I can get all my kit from car to venue in one go. The one thing I have never been able to further downsize is my Hercules stand, which supports the bass from the headstock. I have a lightweight A-frame stand, but I just don't trust it to keep my bass from getting knocked over on stage.

Obviously I haven't recalled correctly! I wonder who it was then? It was somebody who sent theirs back.

You're correct with my wanting to downsize the stand for travelling. At home I use this, which is great -

My Jazz is on an Argos special stand. Does the job and folds ups. Not the smallest but only cheapy and quite steady.
