probonopublico Posted December 18, 2025 Posted December 18, 2025 (edited) Jesse Welles, on Monday. Outstanding. Bass player was well old school. Fender Coronado and a fender valve and what looked like. 2 x 15. Well worth the trip. Edited December 18, 2025 by probonopublico 1 Quote
Steve_nottm Posted December 21, 2025 Posted December 21, 2025 The Sherlocks atvthe jolly brewer in Lincoln. My daughter introduced me to them and is a huge fan. i have to say, great band, really strong songs, and a great way with the fans. They come off stage after playing and chat with people which means a huge amount to young fans like my daughter. saw them at rock city and have to say it was a surprise to see what I think of as a big band in such a small venue. Loved it though. 1 Quote
SteveXFR Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Free community music festival in Komedia in Bath last night. There were a lot of musicians who made me feel very inadequate. Crooked Snout, Mute TV and Kill Mirror Image were all amazing. The headliner, Meryl Streek is an Irish solo punk vocalist. Its just him and a backing track but he really puts on a hell of a performance. Very angry and tells stories with his songs. He's starting to get some decent success and last night was the start of his British tour. We chatted with him after the show, top bloke, loves what he does. Quote
Leonard Smalls Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I had a very musically diverse day today... This morning I rehearsed with the punk band, breaking in a new guitarist. This afternoon I went to a local church hall to see a chap called Julian Perkins play Bach's Goldberg Variations on a harpsichord brought up specially from London. He did it beautifully (though rather heretically, I prefer to hear Bach played on an actual piano!). And this evening I'll be recording some funky slap bass for my EDMFunkRock band's upcoming difficult Second Record... Quote
upside downer Posted Wednesday at 10:58 Posted Wednesday at 10:58 The Molotovs at the Black Prince in Northampton. Energetic 3-piece playing short, sharp punk-pop tunes infused with elements of the Jam and the Libertines. The long-awaited album finally comes out on Friday. Third time I've seen them and they are a real tight unit. Always stick a cover or two into the set, this time Bowie's Suffragette City and a superb Martha and the Vandellas' Heatwave. 1 Quote
SteveXFR Posted Thursday at 22:58 Posted Thursday at 22:58 Airbourne in Frome tonight. An hour and a half of big dumb riffs and rock & roll stupidity and a really great crowd. Even Thatcher couldn't shut down that pit! Im battered. Superb 2 1 Quote

We're lucky that Airbourne always play our local as a warmup when they tour the UK. Ive seen them several times. I don't really listen to their records much but theyre such a great live band. 3 Quote
steantval Posted yesterday at 10:37 Posted yesterday at 10:37 Last night, Limehouse Lizzy at Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre, full house, the band performed brilliantly, they have now been active for 33 years. 👍 1 Quote
nekomatic Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Riot Jazz at Manchester Albert Hall. Upstairs for the first time - it’s not the very best sound compared to some venues, but a great view. That’s mininekomatic2’s trombone teacher on the right. A cracking good time was had by all. Quote
Rollin Thunder Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Doors alive at Network 2 Sheffield. On paper a nice venue, but freezing cold, smelled awful, terrible over priced beer. Band quite average for £20 a ticket too many self indulgent deep cuts and no one needs a 20 minute version of light my fire. Quote
Alicatt Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Last live music we went to was Floor Jansen’s Strijdlust concert in the Musiekgebouw in Eindhoven. Really great performance, this was an extra evening put on and it got sold out in less than an hour. The videoed the concert with the prospect of releasing it. the concept was of Floor’s fight to get where she is now, Strijdlust translates as Fighting Spirit. My wife is not a Floor fan at all and she was quite moved by the concert and the stories between the music, myself, at times it was very difficult to hold the emotions under control, especially when my wife was holding on to me very tightly. Paul S Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Bit late but saw the Illegal Eagles on Wednesday night at the Civic Theatre in Chelmsford. This is their 30 year anniversary tour although, a true Triggers broom, it is an entirely different band now. Certainly an entirely different band to the one I used to see when Ray Brown was singing. Anyhoo. They are nothing short of brilliant. Five in the band, five vocals (Including Blow Monkeys drummer Tony Kiley), four of whom are good enough to front any band, one of whom (bass player and apparent band leader Trevor Newnham) has one of the finest voices I have heard live. Harmonies are out of this world and three of them are talented multi-instrumentalists. They aren't scared to do deep cuts - starting the evening off with 'Midnight Flyer' and throw in some Joe Walsh and Don Henley solo stuff. Last year they played all of 'Desperado' including obscure songs like 'Bitter Creek'. Fabulous. I saw the Eagles proper on their 'History' tour, while everyone was still alive, and reckon this bunch can walk shoulder to shoulder with them. If you like the music of the Eagles, go seek them out - they tour constantly all over the country. 1 Quote
