[/quote] I imagine its so you can play chords on the D and G string and have a different sound to the bass line you're playing on the E and A strings. Pretty flipping niche though I would've thought. TBH I'd be surprised if somebody hasn't already had their pickups routed to separate destinations. Expressively it opens things up enormously, and on reflection it seems such an obvious thing to do.
