Roland Rock
I love this video of the Jesus and Mary Chain playing on Letterman in the early '90s. The core of the band, the Reid brothers, were the epitome of cool, always with shades and black clobber, never smiling. For this important US tour, their management arrange to have appropriate session players to perform, but it seems that there was a communication error, as this bass player is definitely at the wrong gig... http://youtu.be/NsuGek8WNUs

icastle
Easy to see what's happened there. The band are from the UK, the bassist is from the USA. He probably thought that everyone in the UK dress up as though they've just been fox hunting.
paul_5
Bassist probably saw the word 'Jesus' in the want ad and decided it was the gig for him. "Gospel" clothes if ever I saw them!
ahpook
That's brilliant Could the mystery bassist be from the house band ? Edited August 18, 2014 by ahpook

bakerster135
Haha! That's Francisco Centeno, and he was in the Late Show house band for a while. James had the very Sadowsky he plays for sale on this forum a while ago, here. I bet no-one knew it had a bit of shoegazing history attached to it!
gjones
The usual Letterman house band bassist is Will Lee. Wikipedia says he started in 1982. He must have been on his holidays that particular day. Here's Will playing slap bass with Hothouse Flowers on 'Be Good'. There's no slapping on the original but it kinda works. The first (and last) time there ever was slap bass on a Hothouse Flowers song. KevB
He really looks like he's doing it deliberately to wind them up. Almost certainly from the house band. In fact the other house band members seem to be joining in a bit as well. 'I'll show you miserable limeys what puttin on a real show's all about!' Monckyman
I'm suprised he got away with the "here's and english band" thing at all.
BigGuyAtTheBack
'Hey big man, we're fae Glesgae aright ya dobber!' Swiftly followed by a glesgae kiss and a kick in the chugs for the manager. We really need a Glesgae emoticon, a sneery smile wi a slash mark on the face!

thisnameistaken
You know those threads where bands come looking for a bass player, and they say age 20-35 or whatever, and all the older guys get all huffy and go on about how they can out-play any of these young whipper-snappers? I think this video is what those bands are imagining.
