Vanderkley 210MNT - opinions anyone?

I'm looking around for a cab to complement my rig, and this one has caught my attention. Does anyone have experience with it?

I am one of those "I like light and portable" guys, unless you want to be my roadie and be paid in crisps (as many as you can eat), so I understand that there are compromises to be made... but so far I'm happy with those.

I generally use a Markbass CMD121P combo, featuring a single 12". It's pretty loud for its size, and although it does not have earth-shattering lows, it sounds pretty good, it's compact, and it's a great stage monitor, which is what I need in 80% of the gigs I play.
When I want more, I stack the combo on top of a Barefaced Compact, which provides oomph and that small rig sounds reasonable and loud enough for most situations where I play without PA support.

I'm selling some gear, and the incoming cash is making me think I could reshuffle my rig. I'm probably going to end up with a Markbass LMIII (same head as in my combo), because I prefer the head+cab configuration afterall, and I'm thinking about a cab to use together with the BF Compact.

I want something that is not mids-shy, but as "full" as possible. As the BF is not very rich in highs, a "full range" cab would be nice, although not absolutely necessary, as I don't use a very bright tone anyway. I want it to stack nicely on the BF, and be light, and sound good. And 8ohm.

Because of that, I came across the Vanderkley 210MNT.
It measures 50x50x41cm, so it would stack nicely over the BF, and is a little deeper. It weighs only 17Kg.
It also looks pretty

The problem is that they're rare, and I would probably have to buy untested. It's not a small amount of money, so I'd like to research a bit before I pull the trigger... I'm too far from Bass Direct to go down and check them out.

So, has anybody used one of these things?

I used to own the 112 MNT and it was the best 12 Ive ever heard.
Really smooth sound, really well made and light

Ive heard the 210 version is also amazing

I tried the Vanderkley 212MNT up at bass direct a while back.
It was the best 2x12 i've had the pleasure to play through.............. although i've not had the opportunity to trial a Barefaced offering yet.

I played a EB MM classic 4 through a GB Shuttlemax 9.2 and GB Streamliner. The sound was clear, big and transparant. They also look stunning and really well made.

cheers

I wouldn't write off Schroeder cabs mate (Yeah I'm biased, I know :) ). 1210L or 1212L. Light, compact, loud, full range and low-mid rich cabs. Fat.
Never tried the Vanderkleys tho.

When a guy with a lovely SR5 tone like yours speaks, I have to listen ;)

Hmmm, the 1210L looks like a pretty interesting option (not as pretty, but I can live with that since neither am I :P)... the reviews make it look like the kind of thing I'm after indeed... but where in the UK can one buy these cabs? I can't find a store that stocks them

I'm running a Genz Benz 3.0 through the GB10 with a Vanderkley 12 - lovely warm full sound - no complaints here.

No, I meant the Schroeder 1210L, the Bass Direct page for Vanderkley cabs is already bookmarked ;)

Can't comment on the 210MNT, but I've just invested in a Vanderkley 212MNT.

Absolutely stunning cab. Huge sound, very clear over full range, and loads of definition. My band mates have also noticed a step improvement in sound quality (that the best endorsement of all).

And, it is seriously lightweight!

thank you please

Hmm nice

I've been looking at the 212MNT on the bassdirect website.
Also been looking into 2 112's. I take it half a 212MNT would be the 112EXT, not the 112MNT............ hope that makes sense.

cheers

Hi Mcnach, regarding the Shroeder Cab you can contact Jorg directly via email and he will reply ultra promptly ! My Schroeder arrived today and I can't wait to give it a go.

Yes, as far as I know, the 112MNT is half a 212MNT.

The 212MNT is apparently split into two separate internal compartments, each with a driver in it

It sounds soooo good.

Hi RK

I don't think it is.
What i'm saying is, i think the 112EXT is half a 212MNT.

The 112EXT is rated at 300 watt @ 8ohm, the 112MNT is 600 watt @ 8 ohm.

I presume the 112MNT must have higher rated driver in it so people can use it as a stand alone cab.

I am looking at 2 of the 112EXT's so i can have 600 watts @ 8 ohm's total.

cheers

OT really, as this was about the 210, but I pondered that same thing with both 112MNT and 212MNT being rated 600W.
Don't know the answer, but do know that Marc Vanderkley stated very clearly that between the 112EXT and 112MNT, the EXT is the more detailed cab that will most faithfully reproduce minute changes in the signal.
Of course that still doesn't tell how the 212MNT is in comparance.

BTW, I have decided on two 112EXTs because of Marc's statement.

Yeah, sorry to go OT.
That's interesting, I might have to checkout the website.

Hey! get your own thread!!! :P

(nah, it's ok really).

It's interesting how many more people own the 112MNT or 112EXT and 212MNT compared to the 210MNT!

It turns out I may be getting a Schroeder 1210L after all... hmmm. Decisions decisions.

Nah. What fun would we have without veering out into OT?
Bu' I don't think you'll find it on the website, unless you're better at reading between the lines than I am. I simply asked Marc for the cab that would faithfully reproduce every little detail in technique change and buckle rash, and he confidently stated I needed the EXT.

Another happy 212MNT user here! Got it last week and it's unbelievable. I tried Bergantino and Barefaced as well (also great cabs, and it comes down to personal preference in the end), but the Vanderkley just nailed it for me, it just does everything so well. It's hard to explain, but it's like listening to a really well produced bass track on really good studio monitors, loads of detail but without sounding clinical or sterile. It's got an awesome low end but retains that detail, punch, clarity and tightness right down to the low B. Absolutely unbelievable, you really have to hear one to understand. It's actually inspired my playing because it sounds so good, and I can hear myself so clearly.

I have no experience of the 210MNT, but I've no doubt it would be one of the best 2x10"s out there, I really don't think you'd be disappointed if you took a punt on it.

I bought a 212MNT about 2 years ago , I was in a two guitar band ( ie , loud ) and the Two Markbass 604's just seemed to get wiped out by the Marshall 's and the Mesa's . The 212 really cut through the mix and was a great cab for a loud pub - rock band .

The band folded about a year ago , and most of my playing is now with duo / trio bands stuffed into small corners of pubs , and I felt as if I was barely getting the 212 warmed up , and althought the cab is only 25kg , it was quite bulky to carry around .
With the 212 gone , I am the proud owner of a new 210MNT which is a far more manageable size and weight , the difference is only 8kg's , but it feels a lot easier to manoeuvre into tight spots in pubs and cramped venues . The sound is probably a bit more middley than the bigger 212 , the bigger cab did have a bit more "heft" to it , but both cabs respond well to small EQ changes , so dialling in a bit more low mid on the amp sorts out the sound . My current set up is Fender P-bass through Sansamp bass driver into Momark pure 250 or LM tube amp into the 210 , I have yet to feel as if I need anything more as there is plenty of volume on tap .
I have found with the vanderkley's that I don't have to turn them up as loud as other cabs as the detail of the sound comes through (which can show up all the bum-notes )

The cab feels very solid , well finished and looks great , not cheap as you say , but I don't think I need anymore than this .
