I have been looking at various setups of 2 1x12's or 2 2x10's but I am unsure what would be best. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I find my Markbass 2x10 does all I need (& it's not a quote band when there's 2 guits & a guy with hammers on the drums). I like my low end too. There's a couple of chaps on here with the Markbass 1x12 combo & a 1x12 ext cab. Barefaced are light & loud for cabs & like Chris says, there's the Bergs. They are genuinely astonishing for their size and portability. chris_b Posted December 4, 2013 Share Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) Genz are good value because Fender just closed the company and all GB gear is being sold off. Genz have a very good reputation. I had Bergantino cabs, 2 AE210's and 2 AE112's. I slightly preferred the sound of the 10's but mainly used the 112's (they still sound great) because my back isn't good and the 12's are much lighter. Additionally, Aguilar DB cabs sound great but are heavier and Barefaced cabs need to be heard to be believed. There are a couple of Barefaced Compacts in the for sale section on here - incredible cabs if you want loud, clear tone with almost no weight at all... And no wait at all (compared to buying a new one!) Bergs are excellent too and there are a few of them for sale. Don't rule out 1x15s. It is the cabinet that makes the sound, not the size of the speaker in it. Do you have a particular amp or amp manufacturer in mind? What kind of music and venues do you play? How big/strong are you and how good is your back? And yes, an idea of your budget would be useful... I was thinking at rehearsals I could get away with one cab and just using the second one for gigs. I don't have an extortionate budget, probably around £400. I only need the one cab for now I can get the other a bit further down the line. I am using an Ashdown ABM EVO III 500. Depends on manufacturer though. £400, if spent on used gear, could get you one very good cab (Aguilar, Genz Benz, Schroeder, Bergantino, Barefaced, Purple Chilli, etc) or two more mediocre (or older) ones... I bought the combo that goes with it a while back and would have bought the cab if I didn't already have a vertically stacked Tech 2x12 cabinet. It will be tiny for a 2x12 and will undoubtedly sound the biz, handle whatever you throw at it and weigh nothing. Build quality on this gear is second to none. That's my 2p worth. We can recommend you to buy something really expensive and the quality and the tone is superb but not much point if you can't afford it. Due to the Gen 3 range coming out, many more than satisfied Gen 2 owners are flogging theirs to get the new ones. JTUK Posted December 4, 2013 Share Posted December 4, 2013 2x210 V 212..??? toughie. I used to love 10"'s and still run those types so I use 2x Berg 112's, 2xDB210's and a DB212. The best cab ...IMO... is the DB212, followed by the DB210...but they don't have the sheer oomph of the 212... even though 212 cab power is lower....followed by the 2x112's. So it isn't config, it is the cab... The 212 doesn't get hi-mid shy like the Berg's either...altho I don't EQ the cabs differently at all...which may be a tad unfair. I`ve seen our very own Rogerstodge using two Markbass 1x12s which I think are the Traveller series, with his Precision and he had a great sound, again, just the rig, no FOH.
