Hi all, Tried to do a laid back Reggae style thing and it just sort of imploded and I took loads of time messing with it, I have binned it (note to self don't attempt reggae style keys again until I can actually play a keyboard, it ended up sounding a bit like the magic roundabout theme on acid). Will have another pop if I have time but I really am struggling at the moment, seem to have writers block. :dash1:
I tried exactly the same at first - a reggae track - but it's ended up being something quite different on account of the 'guest vocal' I managed to get hold of. I think it's better for it, but I'm a long way from where I started out. Struggling to find time to make a good job of the mix at present, but I should have it nailed next week...

I like the idea of a laid back reggae vibe , it can be really loose , that would suit my playing , recording and mixing talents , ah well its nearly done now ;)

Hello.

I have recorded a piece this evening, rather roughly! I have it as an MP3 and also a WAV - which format is acceptable? Does it need to be on Soundcloud? I have my own hosting you see, so can upload it there. Is this acceptable?
The difficult bit was getting metronomes to sync etc.

I would appreciate any pointers, as I am new around here :-)

Thanks, Rich

I have put an MP3 on Google Drive for anyone to view as my feeble entry:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B2dUQpSGutXEdjZ3NFFiQTJWcDA/edit?usp=sharing

I must apologise but it is rather bass-heavy, as I "mixed" it using headphones (as my wife was sleeping, didn't want to wake her up). I couldn't get my drum machine to line up with my bass recording properly, and as it was hastily done I do go out of time! I used Hydrogen drum machine and some soft-synths for backing (with reverb and tremolo for texture etc.). I just DI'd my bass from a BBE BMax-T.

Others have done laid-back reggae sort of things but I wanted to get over a bit of a jolly feeling I'd have if I could actually go to this place (no holiday left for me this year!), mixed with all of the teeming life and bobbing about in the sea you can see behind, hence the shimmery-ness of it and the muffled flanger section towards the middle (under the sea!). That's my description anyway :)

Again, apologies, but it was hastily done. I called it "Wobbling Sea By The Beach"...

For some reason - preview is disabled, download only ?

Nothing from me this month, I'm afraid; various commitments and general low health got the better of me. I'll be voting, though, and have deliberately refrained from listening up till now so as to have an open mind (in so far as is possible, anyway... ) and hear all entries 'fresh'. Depending on inspiration from next time's photo, we'll see; let's get this lot in and take it from there. I look forward to this moment every month, it's a high spot. Bring it on....

Not sure why, but if you press 'download' it just plays, without downloading
If I press download, there is no preview, it just downloads (no big deal really)

Good to see so many last minute entries! :D Well done all, I'm looking forward to listening to them. As mentioned above: entries close tomorrow night, so there's still chance for anyone currently working on something.

I've just finished mine… it's a collaboration with an outfit called Mestizo Magic in the US (fronted by a chap called Jason Afable who is, like his namesake, very afable!) whom I found on SoundCloud. The vocal completely changed my original idea of a reggae track into something more sort of disco/funk. My reference material for this, mixing-wise, ended up being 'Get Lucky' by Daft Punk. I didn't get anywhere near that, obviously, but hopefully I got some of the 70s flavour in there.

The vibe of the track is meant to say "holidays", which is what I had mind when I chose the pic. Still do... ;)

Feedback welcome as always.

PS: the bassline is played on my Peavey Cirrus BXP5. Managed to find the sweet spot with some compression and saturation!

Cool thanks mate.
Had a listen to your entry a few mins ago. I like it. The singer is awesome. I have a song put together but I had a cold whilst recording the vocal so it all sounds a bit nasal. I'm hoping to re record the vocal tomorrow if I have time. If not it will have to do.
